I play a Gretsch USA Custom in a grey area between modern classical and jazz, and even electronic. I want a much dryer snare to play soft and articulate. I looked at Grover, Patterson, and now Black Swamp. I want to hear these things! 🥁

I use the coated/steel combo wires on a 70s 14x10 Premier mahogany field drum. Sounds gorgeous - exactly the right kind of sound for orchestral playing.

We would recommend a standard length cable. The combination (coated/stainless) has a great dynamic range: www.blackswamp.com/products/s14cs If you want something a bit more dry, go for the fully coated unit: www.blackswamp.com/products/s14c

Both cable snare options that we offer would be too long for a 12" snare drum. The standard and wrap-around versions of our cable snares are built for 14" diameter snare drums.
