Sir. If you replace the calliper bolts one at a time you shouldn’t have to worry about splitting them . Tighten the new one before loosening the next old one and it’s easy peasy . Also I’ve been thoroughly enjoying this series, great work man.

Cheers for the shout out mate. Usually with those analog gauges you check them by plugging each of them onto #1 cylinder, one at a time, and check if they’re reading the same. Adjust 4 to 3 and then adjust 1 to 2 and finally adjust 1&2 to 3&4. Edit - they often have a screw to adjust the individual gauge “calibration”

You're welcome matey, that video of yours was TEALLY good and explained a lot I just didn't get at the time. I didn't explain the balance procedure very well at all but I get what you mean. Jamie stopped by the shop today to check on how I was getting on and the balance of the carbs isn't far off by any means, but I'm continually adjusting these guages bleed valves 😂🤣 I'll leave the explaining to the folks with a deeper understanding 😁👍

On the old CBF you first got to find where the synch hoses connect. Haynes tells fibs! Then number one can only be adjusted on a particular partial throttle opening (not too much or too little to get the screw in the right place) with a long screwdriver from the front of the bike. Two person job with the second person having small hands. Connecting to the carb rubbers - I wish.

What You want to clean the tank inside with, is phosphoric acid. the same strength as the ones that come with the liner kits. I used to do electrolytic cleaning, cleaning with citric acid and also oxalic acid. The phosphoric acid is a hundred times better than the others! And, best part of it, is that it leaves a protective layer of phosphate on the clean metal, so the flash rust is eliminated. Phosphoric acid is also found in some mouth wash bottles, and in gelcoat cleaners for yachts, sailboats and such. First time I tried it, was with soap dedicated to clean sails and fold down roofs ( like on cabriolets ), for small boats. It worked perfectly, so I stepped up and bought a full 5 L, which I’m dilluting down to maybe 10%, when I need to do a tank cleanup. And then I pour in a litre or so, and shake the devil out of it. Empty and filter the fluid, add some fresh acid, shake again. I did a tank that was full of rust, and spent a full day on it. Used a borescope Android camera inside, and it was like brand new! I\m never going back to citric acid again!
@QuickBikes
@QuickBikes 2 жыл бұрын
Ah, now that sounds good. I may get some and give it a go. The citric acid seems to be doing alright as you'll see in the next video, but it does take quite a long time to do its thing 😁👍

Simon RTFM 😉😉Kawasaki manual states balance carb 1 with carb 2 by adjusting the screw between them, then carb 3 to carb 4 adjustment same as 1&2, finally balance carb 1&2 to 3&4 master carb adjustment screw, you are not chasing your tail as much and works every time. The best balancing tool I have used is a home made one filling linked bottles with identical level coloured water and tubing. I have seen a guy on KZfaq do this as well the guys channel is cafe racer garage he does it on a twin CX500, easier to watch his video than me try to explain how to set it up, the principle is the same for a twin and 4 pot, much more accurate than vacuum gauges

Set it up using feeler gauges on the butterflies, using the round type of gauge, this will put u in the ballpark , then use ur guages , those dial ones as others have noted are ok for an older engine whose carbs are probably worn but there are better ones ! ,,, you have the book, but is it balance 1 ans 2 , then 3 and 4 then all on the idle screw? Hondas , my memory been a while! carb 2 is the master and then its 1 to 2 ,,,3 to 2 then 4 to 2 ,,all brought down to earth on the idle screw remember the bikes 30 odd years old , perfect it aint going to be .. dont worry so much , get it together and use it ..imho!

I always set mine by first loosening all the linkage...Then I use the "Fast Idle Metering Screw" in the base section of each carb to set and balance the carbs..(sometimes you will have to remove a factory Brass Plug to get at the metering screw!!)..Then once balanced I adjust the linkage so they all open together.. This works on Bjkes or Cars (Webbers, SU's, etc..and ALL bikes) other wise your not balancing the carbs to each orher but just raising the idle of each "unbalanced" carb to react together (poorly)..Bike sounds really nice and i'd run at 1500 for 15 - 20 minutes , until that "blowby" (rings probably) cuts down..rings need seating..It should go away in 2-3 heat cycles..You can use a "single throat" vaccum guage (or balancing tool) to balance carbs!!...You just set each carb to read the same on the "scale" Having 4 quages is just so much easier and quicker...but a "Single" balancing guage is about $20.00!!!!..(again they both work the Same..Step one - adjust needle with guage screw,until it stops bouncing so wildly and each guage reads the same. Step 2 - adjust each carbs fuel metering screw (or Fast Idle Metering screw) to achieve the lowest needle fluctuation) and all needles are at equal reading...may take several times to even out (balance) ..Then adjust each carb linkage, so they all operate together at the same time, Then using the Idle Screw Linkage that raises all the individual linkagea together, set the idle of the engine...Like I said..it may take several times of going through the procedure but it will eventually balance out...doing it with a Single Throat Balance tool just takes more mlm practice and experience to do properly...👍👍👍🗽🇺🇸

This is definitely a practice makes easier and experience majes perfect kinda thing. Jamie stopped by today to see how it was going and to be fair they're not far off. I ain't used them in years but I've got a set of Davida vacuum gauges that are self damping, as far as I can tell its down to the hoses that are really soft and collapse flat when your using them. I forgot to explain..The Factory closes off access to the "Fast Idle Metering Screw" with small brass plugs for emmissions...so you can't tamper with the setting..You drill put with a tiny drill bit and Inhave a nifty tool, it's a tiny slide hammer with a bit that takes a small wood screw. You screw tool into hole (made by the drill bit) and hammer out the plug...The carbs should be set up so 2 are available for access on each side of the bike (you can do this with carbs installed) ..Then you can balance with long tiny bit screw driver! 👍👍👍🗽🇺🇸
@QuickBikes
@QuickBikes 2 жыл бұрын
Ah right... these carbs aren't the easiest to access in a few ways... For example, the pilot screw is buried at the bottom directly behind the fuel rail, so any adjustment involves taking the carbs off again. Tedious... but necessary 😁
@billrandell4641
@billrandell4641 2 жыл бұрын
There is a special tool to get at those..What I am talking about is a Factory Plugged Fast Idle metering screw..All Bukes have them..You'll see a cast protrusion near the base of the carbs..2 facing to the right and 2 facing toward the left..( unless they are easily accessed from one side)..with brass plugs flush with the face..You have to drill them out to get at the same screws to "Balance" the carbs..It makes the carbs richer which is usually illegal for emmisions..They make a WORLD of difference in performance and MUST be adjusted to achieve good balance and performance...If you look through the base of carb throat, you should see a tiny port with a brass needle (if your lucky) ..otherwise just look where the port is and there should be a cast protrusion with brass plug 180 degrees, at the lower carb base...trust me!..you'll find it!!....👍👍👍🗽🇺🇸
