Fantastic and simple. One thing that I find that helps is a list of steps that can also be printed - maybe in PDF form. I tend to do this with videos that I watch because I am normally using the PC that is being or going to be modified and cannot be on it and watching at the same time. Having a printed step by step is helpful also because I can check off items as I complete them. A little old school - but... thanks .

I found this video very informative and followed it exactly to upgrade my laptop. I was upgrading the primary (C:) drive from a 256GB to a 1TB NVMe. All went well until I restarted my machines after the process and found applications I had installed on the secondary (D:) drive were no longer available. I discovered both drives had been encrypted using BitLocker and some how the key for the D: had been compromised by replacing the primary drive. The original primary drive, now residing in the enclosure, is still encrypted but, as I hope not to need the files on it, I am not concerned at this point. The lesson-learned is to remove BitLocker from those drives that might be affected before commencing the cloning procedure, and more importantly, reinstate BitLocker once complete. I suspect Windows 11 will ease this issue because, unlike Win 10, it expects there to be a TPM on the motherboard for storing encryption keys.

@CitizenPerkins
@CitizenPerkins 3 жыл бұрын
He put the info into the Description box. Click the "Show More" link just beneath the video. The device is called a "USB to M.2 Adapter". Be sure your memory _matches_ the adapter you wish to use!! There's a notch at the "insertion end" of your stick of RAM. That notch moves around depending on the type of RAM it is. The notch (or "key" as it's sometimes referred to) is there to make sure that only the correct type of RAM can be inserted into it.

I recently bought a new 17 7000 series Dell which when I opened it had 2 DIMM RAM slots and 256 GB M2. I called customer support to verify that I could upgrade the RAM to 32 GB and increase the M2 to 2 TB. The India based customer support said that this Dell was limited to 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of NVMe. I don't see why it can't take the 32 GB RAM cards x 2 and a 2 TB MVMe card. How do I confirm that a modern mother board can be upgraded to better components. I returned the laptop as it only had one bay for storage. I thought it would have at least 2 bays.

Hey Dale, I'm doing this procedure as well following your every move just like the other video. For this one, after I situate the partitions from Source -> Destination and hit Next I get a message about Bitlocker not being enabled and to enable it after I clone. I didn't take it any further, I see you didn't have that on yours so just trying to figure out how to go about it. I know how to enable/disable it but read some horror stories about not being able to boot and/or re-enable Bitlocker. As always any insight or advice is very much appreciated. Wy wife already wants to chop off my beans for getting this laptop and investing further in SSD's and RAM so if I completely screw it up I'm a dead man.

@@CadillacComputerCenter okay thanks. In your opinion, would it be easier/safer to just to do a clean install of the new ssd instead of cloning? It's a new laptop and I don't need anything on the existing drive, just want to start fresh with larger storage. I thought cloning was necessary in order to upgrade storage. The other video you did on a Windows install with an 8GB flash drive, would that be the right option? Thanks again!

@@tahampton25 If you're upgrading from a retail computer, you likely should clone, as there's hidden partitions (drivers, Win 10, and other tools). The tricky part (for me) was resizing the C partition. Wish I found Dale's vid yesterday. He got right to the point on resizing.

@guitarforumdude
@guitarforumdude 3 жыл бұрын
No, as you will have many partitions on a retail computer, and for whatever reason, people may want to create more partitions, resize them, etc. I literally did this yesterday, before putting in my new 1 TB SSD. I've looked at dozens of videos, and this was the best. You may have to rewind to catch what he's saying. I spent HOURS trying to figure out out to resize the C partition. He addressed that really quickly. I used the same free software he used.
