One reason why this trilogy is so great is that we get to watch a protagonist from literally a day old to his death. You don't get to see that often in cinema and the fact that Caesar's journey is so layered, emotional, and moving is the cherry on top.

i was blown away by the first movie in 2011. Never finished the trilogy till now. Im suprised that literally every film is consistently amazing. Long live caesar and this trilogy.

Caesar is easily one of the best protagonists in modern cinema. In the first film, he grows up very innocent and optimistic, but as he matures, he realizes how cruel the real world is for his kind. He eventually decides to do something about it and uses his heightened intelligence to lead his people to revolt, freeing him and his fellow apes from oppression and allowing them to be govern by no else but themselves. In the second film, years pass and he rules his nation as a wise and noble king, teaching his people to act civilized and promoting peaceful coexistence with humans rather than unnecessary conflict. However, when an ape with an adamant hatred toward humans begins plotting against him, he does nothing to stop him. He believed an ape was physically incapable of betraying another ape, let alone an ape king. By the time he realizes his mistake… it’s too late. The vengeful ape has him violently usurped, blames the assassination on the humans and leads the apes to war. The only thing he could do now was take back his throne by force, and so after recovering from his grievous wounds, he confronts his usurper and kills him, dropping him from on top of an unfinished skyscraper. He believed he did everything he could to prevent war between humans and apes, when in reality, he did more to provoke it than prevent it. Finally, in the third film, as the war inflicts devastating losses on his people, he decides to migrate his nation to a place where the humans can not attack them. However, right before the migration begins, his wife and son are murdered by humans. Unable to hold back his desire for revenge, he and his closest comrades perform a rearguard action to protect their people’s exodus, when in reality, it’s an excuse for him to settle the score. This selfish act results in the unintentional murder of a traitor, one of his close friends sacrificing his life, and him and his people getting captured by humans and forced to do labour. While in captivity, he meets his family’s murderer, a colonel of a rogue human military faction, who explains humans are not only becoming more extinct, but also more primitive in nature due to a mutation of the disease which led to the apes becoming so intelligent. The colonel intends on killing all intelligent apes and humans infected with the mutated disease because it will apparently help humanity stay the dominant force on the planet. When his fellow apes become making a great esc-ape, he stays behind to finish what he started, regardless of all the consequences it brought. He confronts the colonel in his personal quarters and is about to blow his head off when he realizes the colonel has contracted the mutated disease. In that a moment, he finally understood why the colonel did what he did and despite still clearly wanting to kill him, he ultimately lets the colonel himself determine in his fate, resulting in the colonel committing suicide. He then uses explosives to blow up the colonel’s base, effectively wiping out the rogue military faction, and joins his people in their journey to reach their new home. When they finally arrive, he dies peacefully from mortal wounds he sustained earlier, knowing his legacy and impact on the world will last forever. Caesar has all the qualities a good protagonist should have. He has a compelling personality, his skills and accomplishments are inspirational, his goals and motivations allow you to relate to him, he experiences all kinds of loses and setbacks, he constantly changes and develops as a character and, most importantly, he is truly the best part about the story.

I just finished war for the planet of the apes and when Caesar died I cried so much I thought it would be a happy ending

After he passed, at the very least, he knew that his kind would see the rise of sunlight once again without seeing blood and smoke.

This guy has been through so much... God i love this trilogy.

This trilogy was so full of heart and wisdom, I still feel it echoes as a hallmark on the spirit of nature, that of our own kind and of the countless species we subjugate and mock. All life is precious and the Earth endures for all creatures to share and abide.

Last movie ended panning the camera up. First movie we learned about a failed mars mission leaving people lost in space. Third movie we learned the virus would make humans less human. Unable of speech or civility. Sound familiar? That's basically the plot of the original films from way back when. I think the upcoming movie will start panning the camera down in the perspective of a pod or rocket entering earth's atmosphere. They will discover the planet of the apes and the humans who have basically become feral apes themselves living amongst humans. There are many other clues to this but those are the main ones.

This is why I admire Caesar he was born as an intelligent innocent chimpanzee but in the fullness of time so many evil men almost corrupted him but because of his compassion towards the right Humanity he knew how to love and care and he also showed Mercy. Those that did him wrong they all suffered in the end but those that he knew would survive are the ones that he would protect he would also protect his own people as well.
