Today we get the Suzuki GS550 Cafe Racer project running better, no more lean popping. We fixed the overflowing carburettor by replacing the float valve and seat, then got all 4 cylinders running as I had a faulty spark plug. The next step today is to Colortune the bike

I saw this Video, subscribed and by now watched all of your videos, but this is still my favourite. The bike really looks stunning! Big Fan of your channel and can‘t wait for new Stuff, especially on the CB 750, for I‘m building one myself. To be honest, your videos gave me the last kick to start a Project by myself. Keep it up and cheers from Germany!

you've got a new subscriber, i checked out some of the progress of this bike and now I'm so intrigued on the outcome of it, thanks to these videos my whole perspective as to what i want when i actually save up to buy a motorcycle of my own has completely changed and this seem a lot more appealing to me, the bond you get with the bike is amazing, not to mention the amount of knowledge one gains by actually being hands on with the bike rather than just buying it made or buying the mainstream models which are becoming too common and something like this is a lot more unique and like someone else said in a comment, just knowing its YOURS and everything about it has ones touch in it has got to be a great feeling, Great vid! keep up the great work!

7:40 very nice adjustment, thats how it should be. Gunson blue at idle, turns orange after throttle blip as the carb injects extra fuel, and stays bluish at a steady higher rpm.

@forthebold
@forthebold 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Final jets were 17.5 idle - 87.5 mains, with the fuel screw at 1.25 turns out and the air mix screws at .25 screws out. (A huge difference from the 2 full turns out the book says for the standard air filter). Oh and I raised the needle by 2 clips.

What was done to the carbs after taping up the pods?
@forthebold

More videos in the series on jetting them. Most importantly by taping up the pods I figured out they were crap and put them in the bin for decent pods. The tape was only ever a test and never anything permanent. Should never be done

I think it was around £30, not bad for an effective bit of kit. I'm going to give the engine a little polish but no more than I did in the first videos of the series, it's got a little dirty since then but nothing gleaming.

Hey man, great video, only issue you need sync carbs first as you could get different amount of vacuum in carbs, and it would suck different amount of fuel. I would advise if you have huge sync issue is to colortute again.
@forthebold
@forthebold 6 жыл бұрын
I was debating whether to sync first or not, I opted for colortuning first as the bike wasn't running properly and the main things to change was the fuel screw, I imagine I'm going to have to go back and forth with both colortune and synchronising.
@dnielsen1983
@dnielsen1983 6 жыл бұрын
For The Bold - dreegez perhaps it would have been easier to do at workbench sync one of the times you had the carburettors of.
@xsonz2
@xsonz2 6 жыл бұрын
i have a GS750 that gets hung up at about 3k to 4k and adding throttle does nothing for a moment, then it surges the RPMS smoothly from that point on. Im guessing its my ignition or my fueling, torn apart the carbs already and they were pretty much spotless, floats working properly etc. Now every bike I had before this one has an idle mixture screw, so i figured turning the screws on top of the carbs wouldnt do much for hanging rpms. I cant find any information on the nature of these carbs and what tuning can be done with them, But i know for a fact the points have never been replaced by the previous owners, nor have they ever been adjusted.
@forthebold
@forthebold 6 жыл бұрын
Is it fuel injection or old school carbs? If old school then your carbs are very clever in that different parts operate different throttle positioning. Try moving the needle up one notch as from 3/4 open throttle it’s your jet needle and needle jet that controls the fuel. Points is another valid thing to check I guess. If it was m I’d check my timing and make sure the weights are working on them
@xsonz2
@xsonz2 6 жыл бұрын
its quad mikunis. Honestly I didnt even know these bikes had a "distributor" until I watched your video on your GS550. My first bike was a Cx500 and as you are aware it was a fully electronic ignition. I ended up replacing the ignition on that bike with an Ignitech, Im probably going to replace the GS's ignition with a dynatech like you did. Looks way too easy to pass up.
