I have both and GREATLY prefer the 1st gen. It goes on SO much faster.... No pissing around with trying to line crap up....

That’s interesting 🤔 I totally understand you though. Sometimes that gate on the Gen 2 is a pain to line up.

Does your 1st gen walk loose after heavy strings of fire? Do you need to Rocksett it?

Appreciate the info. I have a BCM 14.5 P&W with the A2X flash hider. Was thinking of sending off to change out muzzle device. But I’m gonna try this option

I wish this would have been out when o got into cans, the a2 is a good flash hider but it’s cheap. Putting proprietary muzzle devices on every rifle i wanna suppress gets pricey.

Exactly. These mounts can really help cut down the cost on special muzzle devices.

Griffin makes great stuff. Fit, finish, machining are all top tier. Their cans sound as good as anyone else’s and better than most up until around 2 years ago where the field shifted quite a bit towards quieter cans. Their pricing still beats a lot of their competition, especially anyone that’s putting out a quieter can. $75-100 muzzle devices aren’t cheap but in comparison to companies like Surefire they’re a steal and the availability and variety of the muzzle devices makes them top tier All my opinion of course. There’s been a lot of change and development in the suppressor game since I did the research. That said, I still think that there’s a lot of bang for the buck- bad pun😀

Haha, I see what you did 😁 I fully agree with you man. Griffin Armament is like a sleeping giant. It’s only a matter of time before more folks notice and jump in the wagon.

I have both of these adapters. I bought the Gate-Lok specifically for the extended A2 that Daniel Defense uses on their 14.5 pin & welded carbines. It works well on the DD and every other 5.56 A2 I’ve tried. The 2-piece mount works on standard A2’s only. Both are nicely machined, but I’d recommend the Gate-Lok for better versatility.

When I was talking to Griffin Armament about these if seemed like the Gate-Lok is a better system but they decided to keep the A2 adapter available for those who wanted it. I agree that the Gate-Lok seems like a better design over all.

Did u need to file down your pin weld at all or did it just snap on no problem?

@nahaine2476 I trimmed mine down just slightly. If there’s a bit weld nub then you will probably have to remove it. Just to clarify though, it’s still fully welded 👌

Mmm, that would be helpful. Depending on the suppressor you are using, their current Gate-Lok will work. What can are you running?

I talked to my dad into getting the Gen 1 about a year ago it doesn't fit most flash hiders they got to be 556 size.

Are you saying it fits 5.56/223 A2’s but not 30 cal A2’s? That’s my experience with them 🤔

@@CalebDowning yeah exactly it works only on the 5.56 a2 stuff. It won't work on the ar10 or the 300blk a2 flash hiders.

Damn. I was all revved up. I use YHM and they just changed. Feeling a bit abandoned and not wanting to have to go buy 4-5 new muzzle devices, this sounded fantastic. I wish YHM had a trade-in-for-credit deal with the new muzzle devices and hub mounts. I really bought in and now I got ditched.

@@ElsinoreRacer the a2 adapter is made by griffin maybe the 2nd gen with the gate lock will be more universal.

With the 1st gen A2 adapter, will the A2 adapter and the hub attachment walk loose after long strings of fire? Also, do you know if the 1st gen A2 adapter works with the DD pinned and welded 14.5 flash hider?

Every mount can back off if it’s not torqued on properly. I haven’t had that issue with these mounts personally. I can’t confirm if the DD flash hider will work because I don’t have one to check. They do fit my extended BCM flash hider on my p/w 14.5.

I remember about 10yrs ago when Griffin came out with the 1st gen blast shield. It was advertised to fit mil-spec A2 bird cages. Problem is they didn't mention that all A2 flash hiders aren't the same "mil-spec". Second problem was that they never indicated which brand/manufacturer's A2 was demonstrated to work with the blast shield. Needless to say, quite a few dissatisfied customers and the 1st gen blast was replaced with a different design. A shame since the 1st gen was way cooler looking.

You like the look of the 1st Gen better? It’s functional but I like the 2nd Gen. I guess it’s good that they still offer both 😁 And I can understand your frustration. Mil-spec is a range. So you can have different variations even within the same company. There is no way to know for sure what A2’s will fit without trying them out individually.
