20% service fee. Why not just integrate that into the final price instead of a tag-on at the end? Adding it at the end doesn’t make sense to me. If it’s the same either way then make it one price.

It’s clear from the restaurant owner in the interview that junk fees are here to deceive his customers into thinking their food are cheaper than they really are.

so it's a 20% increase with an absurd description to deflect what is really going on.

Lots of time the service provided isnt worth 20%. The consumer should have the power. Tipping is supposed to reward excellent service. 20% mandatory is only a problem when bad service is provided.
@pwp87377 күн бұрын
not really. Service can be excellent but people balk at tipping 20% on a large party bill, where for 2 people they think it's fair. It shouldn't matter if your bill is $800 or $80. Having worked as a waiter, and depending solely on tips to live from I also know that waiters are forced to pay bussers, hosts, kitchen and bartenders a fixed percentage of the bill, regardless of what a customer leaves as a tip.

@@pwp8737 The new minimum wage is at least $15, and you get tips on top of that. What are you complaining about? If you working at a restaurant that has good food and constant line of customers coming in you can't complain because you're likely making $30+/hr including tips. And tipping is based on the quality of customer service you are providing. It isn't a given. And no, tipping doesn't start at 18% as many in the restaurant industry keep pushing it higher and higher. It used to be 10% and then it got socially pushed to 15%, now the push is 18-20% minimum regardless customer service quality.

@@pwp8737 i work customer service as well and do not understand the idea of deserving a tip. so you work for someone get paid so little you rely on tips...... tips are not a mandatory thing they are a reward for quality service not for showing up and doing your job thats what your employer is for. if you impress me you get a tip you do the bare minimum you do not. and that how it should be.

@@BADGIZM0 if the world was as you say NO ONE would serve in restaurants for minimum wage. You would be dining in self service cafeterias. Try waiting on tables for a little while to see what it's like. Not a pretty sight.

Of course he's going to say the house doesn't get any of the 20% Nonsense. If the employees are undocumented, I guarantee the house is taking a portion if not all of the fees. I just won't eat out in San Francisco again

I guess I know which restaurants I am not going to, the ones that try to hide the true cost of a meal!

stay at home and cook your meals then.

Your bill will include a 20% "Service Fee" to compensate our entire team more equally, and the additional associated costs of CDC and local operating guidelines. Additional gratuity is appreciated for exceptional service - Xie Xie! Wow they have the balls to ask for additional tip.

THEN STOP EATING OUT. PUT THEM OUT OF BUSINESS. WHO CARES.

I don’t mind paying the 20% service fee as long as they don’t expect another 20% at the end for a tip if they’re automatically charging 20% I’m not giving anymore
@lukeranger33827 күн бұрын
This place wants an additional tip.

Junk fees is nonsense and a rip off for diners and should be illegal to begin with. The fact that CA legislature actually passed a law to allow junk fees is beyond ridiculous and disgusting. So is it ok for other businesses like car dealerships start adding ridiculous fees over published price.

Prices in restaurants have gone through the roof, so many can't afford the dining experience anymore, especially the seniors and those who are at the low end of wages. This is just another sign of how the swing of economics that only work for some, but not for the many. Sad
@kenyoung48815 күн бұрын
Tips are for service that is good. Now you automatically get tipped 20%, instead of the “Normal 15%” Yeap, it’s our choice to eat out at those restaurants.
@theresa9223 күн бұрын
Just start checking your bill. If service fees are added, either adjust your tip or don’t go to that restaurant anymore. I feel bad for the wait staff who has to tell the customer of their add-on fees. These restaurant owners may find it harder to keep their staff.

20% service fee ... resort fee ... gas tax ... things are sooooo expensive, its just not worth going out anymore.

I wonder how long the legislature worked on this. Then change it at the last minute. How many of them own restaurants ? They are as flakey as Newsom. My new tipping method is your tip starts at 20% and goes down from there. Its not rocket science but it sure better be professional.

Let's eliminate poll taxes to vote also while this is happening. Oh wait, that did already happen.

it is a forced tip

I just do 10% for dine in service. Easy to calculate, doesn’t feel like I’m robbing myself either.
