Confused, I am really confused on why people keep dissing that a strong lofted iron is labeled a particular number, ie 7. As the proud owner of a set of rogue X's, I am extremely happy. I am 69, had lost a lot of distance, but now I have that back and I can shoot in the mid 80's now. I have the 7-g, hybrids 5-3. I can play at gc's length 6000-6200 and make pars and some birdies. When I play in a tournament and a opposing player uses his 6 iron and I use my 7, I guess I should take a stroke penalty for using a mislabeled club. Ridiculous comments. I do agree maybe we should put lofts on clubs, but high handicappers might get confused. I gapped all my clubs, for me my 7 is my 145-150 carry club, period. I don't care what loft it is!!! Bottom line get fitted and find a set of clubs that make your game easier, which results in more fun. I really wanted a set of mizunos hot metals, but the fitter showed me I was a lot better with the rogue X. These mavriks with the ai face look like they will make face mishits much more consistent. Intrigues me. Bottom line, Golf is a hard game, my rogue X make the game much more fun. Mavriks look like they will improve it .

I used to be a 4- handicapper when i played like 5-6 years ago. I just started again and played 3 rounds with the best round being a +8. I just got the Mavrik pros and immediately made a +2 round. These irons are absolutely fantastic. The stability, length and feel are the best I've ever tried. I also tried the apex pro 19, the nimbus, and the p790s. The Mavriks were, for me, 100% the best. No doubt.

You have to identify your weaknesses and either improve those or you can do like me and tailor your game to eliminate those shots. I’m terrible at pitching so I either lay up about a pw out or go for the green if I can with like a 6 iron. Knocked 10-15 shots off the first time I tried this approach

I went to PGA superstore to confirm what irons I was going to purchase and was pretty set on the Mizuno MP20mb irons. A friend of mine went with me and he was in the Callaway booth hitting the Mavrik Pro and told me that I at least needed to try it. I said wasn't interested and he put it in my hand and said at least tell me what you think of it. So I hit several balls and really liked the sound and ball flight. These were very consistent for me on distance and spin. I could work the ball in both directions. Needless to say my new set will be here hopefully by the 8th of Feb. Lesson here is to make sure you give the new stuff a try because you never know what will work best for you.

I’m a 15 HC and tested the standard Mavriks on a Trackman last week. #1 I don’t care at all about the look of my clubs. If they feel good and fly straight I’m in. Maybe these are ugly. Don’t care. (I also carry the Ping g410, which has its share of cosmetic haters). #2 I’m a reasonably fast swinger with a little bit of fade. Typical iron miss (as you might expect) is a little bit too much fade right. I hit my old RBZ 7i about 165, which is what the simulator showed. Some dead at it, some right of the green. My first three swings with the Mavrik (XP95 S300 shaft) carried within 3yds of each other - around 170 (right on target line), but spin was inconsistent, resulting in total yardage of 180-190. All three felt GREAT through the hands. I knew I had hit too thin on two of them instantly, hence the long rolls. My next three 7i swings were with a Modus 105 stiff shaft. One right, one left, one dead middle. But all spot on spin rates, and all three right around 175 carry, and 180 total yards. Pure feeling. Pure sound. And one was a heel hit they still flew straight enough to hit a green. I thought it was going to be OB when I felt the contact - my RBZ would have been. #3 The punchline for me - the Mavrik 7i might get yardage like my old RBZ 5 or 6 iron, but they have trajectory / height and STOP like I would expect from a 7i. So if I can hit a green as consistently from 185 now as I could from 160 before, isn’t that the point?? That plus the feel...I’ll pick them up this week!
@nickcook4032
@nickcook4032 4 жыл бұрын
Add to that, if I can hit my new Mavrik 5i 20-25 yds past my old one, I might not need a 3w or any hybrid in my bag to get some par 5 greens in 2.

Nick Cook, I, too, ended up purchasing a set of Mavriks (standard) and will receive them in two weeks, following my fitting. Yes, crazy long compare to my old Titleist 714’s.... more than 20 yards with the 7 iron, but with great spin and low dispersion. Looks a bit chunky but the numbers were too good to pass. I tried 5 other clubs (I’m a 13 handicap) and none came close in performance for my swing. I’m a bit nervous, though, about how long the pitching and approach wedges will go. I should have tried them. Hope I don’t have a huge gap relative to my Cleveland wedges!
@sammyjankiss287
@sammyjankiss287 3 жыл бұрын
Exactly Nick. People today, who've been playing for awhile have a hard time understanding higher lofted irons the major manufacturers are now offering. They tend to get way too caught up in "what number" is on the iron and have a pre set notion of how far each should go. I don't think any of that matters. I have the Mavrik standards and and love them. Since they are stronger lofted, I don't need a 5W in my bag and they've made room for the wedges in my set up. There's a reason manufacturers are making this style of iron now. It's to make golf easier for new comers and people just wanting a little more distance without giving up accuracy. They are not designed for low handicappers. A more accurate review of them would be from mid to high handicappers. But good luck finding KZfaq channels by those guys. If you did find one, it would be the same as them reviewing the latest Titlest blades or something. They would go over the specs, and the tech. Shank a few and eventually say that they are not for them. People need to be honest in their game and not try and game clubs that are beyond their skill level just to look more like the low handicappers you see online and on TV. Ok, I'll get off my pulpit now.

Just went into my local Pro Shop yesterday for a fitting and tested the Taylor Made Sim Max, the Titlest T300's the Ping 710's, the Mizuno JPX 919's and the Maverick Standards. After 2 hours of comparison, I went with the Mavericks and purchased a set. They have a great sound and feel off of the face and were the most consistent of the clubs I hit. I don't need to understand the lofting numbers to know that Callaway is on to something with these irons. While they might not be as aesthetically pleasing as other irons, I'd rather hit the ball well than look good shanking them. Full disclosure, I'm a TaylorMade guy by default and I wanted to like the SIM's more. Just wasn't the case. These irons are legit and I'd recommend going and trying them out if you're in the market for more distance and feel from your current set. This guy seems to be a low handicapper and I don't believe these clubs are really for him, even though he seemed to hit them very well.

Leo Zeggert why does it matter what the loft is? As long as you have the gapping you want and can have some control on the ball? If you got a set of these you would just use the 8 iron as the same club as your 7 iron pretty much.
@leozeggert1916
@leozeggert1916 4 жыл бұрын
@@MrSomeone544 It doesn't matter what the loft is except for the problem of filling out the bottom end (wedges). If your 9 iron or PW is in the high 30's or low 40's, it's hard to find clubs that fill the gap. I have a few friends with new sets that are stronger lofted, and now they have gaping issues from their iron set to their wedges. Just my 2cents. Additionally, why have a number on the bottom of the club (i.e. 4, 5, 6, 7...), better off just having loft #.
@MrSomeone544
@MrSomeone544 4 жыл бұрын
Leo Zeggert yeah I can agree with that though I would say you can find a specialty pitching wedge relatively easy to fill that gap at 46-48 degrees etc. and agreed on the loft on the bottom being a better indicator. A great review Michael and I think it shows that even 5 irons are becoming increasingly redundant. The side to side dispersion was excellent on all three sets, but the front to back dispersion will be a concern for potential buyers of the standard set in particular. The lofts are confusing, but if people can cope with the chunky looks, the max seemed to give the best all round consistency.

@thebestceramist 4 жыл бұрын
Do you really think 100 percent of golfer welcome "tweener club"? If you can hit farther and higher so you can play better, who cares shape? 50 percent of golfers can not score under 100.
@leozeggert1916
@leozeggert1916 4 жыл бұрын
@@thebestceramist I don't think tweener irons are for 100% of golfers. I do think distance is overrated. Most golfers who can't break 100 would be better off hitting a 7 iron twice and maybe a wedge once into a par 4 and two putts for a bogey, rather than hitting the ball "farther and higher" into the woods, ponds, or golf course parking lot. And... just because you can hit a 28 degree 7 iron 200 yards (as a player who can't break 100), I think those players would be better served working on the aspects of the game to improve scoring (putting, chipping, and less than full shots) to reach breaking the 100 goal. Hitting farther and higher IMHO is not the end all be all. All this technology and "game improvement" clubs has NOT improved the scoring averages of the golfing public for decades when the only irons that were available were blade/blade style size and shape. Are they difficult to hit, YES. But they are truly game improvement clubs as they tell you through your hands, ball flight, results, what you did or did not do right.

Have to say that these 'here today, gone tomorrow' strong-lofted irons are not to my liking. The Mavrik line-up is particularly ugly, the Pro maybe just about cutting the mustard. I guess the standard is intended as the ultra-distance iron with the Max more chunky and offering beginners more loft. I'll stick with my Mizuno MP18 SCs!

Seems that if they stock 1 set it would be standard, & the longest compared to other brands. Most people whom would buy those irons would be impressed by distance. mostly beginners.

thomas ross - my experience in the trackman with the standards (custom shaft) was 20yds farther than my current RBZ 7i, but with similar trajectory and spin. If I can hit greens from 180-185 as easily as I could before from 160, that’s huge. And my Mavrik 5i is long enough to pretty much get hybrids and my 3w out of my bag...also huge...

all weird looking ones.. For irons, i like those older forged cavities much better... Easy and consistent. If a golfer of his level is not much consistent with the two non-max modelsl, I am sure 99% of golfers would struggle too.

In terms of looks the Pro is reasonable nice (but not as nice as the Apex Pro) but the standard and Max are just plain ugly. Based on Michael's numbers the performance of the irons is a mixed bag. For a decent player, there are far better irons than these - and have been for several years - why a decent player would want the Mavrik Pro instead of the Apex Pro is a mystery. But for a beginner or someone with a slower swing speed these could be a very good answer although I would struggle to recommend getting a longer iron than a 6i or in the max maybe no more than a 7i (27 degrees! my i210 5i is only a degree stronger)

So two of the 7 irons are really a 5 iron and one of them is a 6 iron. Got it. It wasn't that hard... Pretty soon the 7 iron will be a 3 iron and a wedge will be a 5 iron and you'll need 12 wedges. If you want consistent distances, get the most 'game improvement' and if you want to come up short one time and totally blow it over the green the next, get the Pro... Aye yi yi...

Just added my experience in the trackman above. I carried the Mavrik 7i like my old 5i, but the ball flight and dispersion where better than my old 7i. It stops. If I can hit greens as consistently from 180-185 now as I could from 160-165 before, I’ll take that improvement. Now if I can gut my new 5i 20 yards farther than my old one, I won’t need a 3w in my bag anymore to hit some par 5s in two.
