Caller is correct, if only because we're essentially running out of time, as he points out about climate change. There is no way to move forward with legislative measures that are entirely contingent on a few hundred individuals that are bought into the capitalist complex, and who have their own little "quirks and features" that they process legislature through, including delaying crucial legislative measures due to their conflicts of interest. Just 20 years of not having courts is enough of a hammer blow to get some real revolution going. At the same time, I'm skeptical of the ML route, as class consciousness is still not a thing (and might never be), and I don't trust any new age vanguardism. I think we're royally screwed. I'm poor enough where I don't have much to lose at this point, so I've made my peace with where this planet is headed. I will still vote for Bernie out of principle, and will encourage others to do so.

I would support a Marxist state without the bs class consciousness and identity politics. If state radically changed its position in respect to the environment, ending student loans-free college tuition, medicare for all, dismantling the military industrial complex and getting troops out, higher minimum wage etc., all this along with a more progressive judiciary and I would be very happy. It is the perverse postmodern element of gender, femininity and race of Marxism that turns me off it.

Tom C excuse me? all of those identities are part of class struggle. you're not fighting for liberation if you're not fighting for everyone's liberation. I think the fundamental point behind what he is talking about is that our governmental systems are not even remotely democratic or representative and present fundamental barriers to real lasting reform because they are so rigid and unchangeable by design. The only way to really achieve a society where change actually lasts and doesn't get reverted back decades later when the capitalists undo everything like after WWII is to create a new system of government. Obviously the means to achieve that are not likely and unfortunately public knowledge is currently far too behind the curb because of decades of capitalist propaganda, but there really is no other way to get this society permanently out of this hellscape than to replace the systems that govern us, however that does occur.

"In order for there to be any meaningful change for most groups in America ....... it is going to require a fundamentally different government system" He is making an argument from necessity that because the problems (i.e. gender inequality) are due to the structure of society i.e. social institutions and culture, that restructuring will be necessary to neutralise those problems. Structure dictates function. He doesn't have to posit an alternative, although, he does try....he begins to propose that "it would require an organic movement".... he might be suggesting that because function reinforces the structure that the best means for going about this change is through modifying functioning - hence an "organic movement" rather than a coerced militant takeover of government? I'm not a Marxist or Leninist or even radical Left but his argument was perfectly reasonable to me. If the inequalities are the logical implication of the functioning of societal structures then neutralising the faults in the structure to address the functioning is valid. Am I missing some thing?

@@NoNoNah306 I find it hard to believe that a functioning democratic structure would exist among revolutionaries. @NoNoNah306

@@jrizaac George Orwell gave an account of how ground level democracy worked among revolutionaries in Homage to Catalonia. Essentialy even at a military level there were votes among squads and decisions would be questioned rather than followed blindly. Of course for fast reactions situations you would neccesarily need leaders to shout orders and the like and they would be elected unanimously, but they weren't considered above the people who elected them and the power they held would be limited to what was neccesary, temporary and questioned. Surely where direct democracy has the dangers of mob rule, representative democracy has the risks of corruption. If you genuinely think it's essentially bad for a majority to rule why have democracy at all? and not simply rule of whoever scores best on an exam or something of that nature?
@jrizaac
@jrizaac 4 жыл бұрын
@@NoNoNah306 I do not at all think majority rule is bad, I think it's good. But I still want to have representative democracy run by majority rule when it comes to voting, which is why we need more voting rights and electoral reform. We need serious reform to remove corruption in the government which is why we need progressives to take over the Democratic Party. I think if the future continues looking grim where we no longer get the reforms we desperately need, yes we may need to consider revolutionary action as a way to force the ruling class to reconsider. I think revolutionary action is only justified when the majority are fully on board though or at least sympathetic to it. If we have a revolution where most of the populace are not down with it (like now), it can have serious consequences. They'll be a huge reactionary movement which the ruling class will easily exploit in order to suppress the rebellion. It will actually move us toward fascism.

Because he's nervous to tell where he is in the political spectrum because of the stigma. I expected him to be a Marxist but he's a Marxist Leninist which is the polar opposite of Steve Bannon, who is an "evangelical" capialist Leninist. Leninism is in short an ideology that is about "burning the world down in order to rise from the ashes like a Phoenix in our desired image. In Bannon's case that's rich white Christians, in Marxist Leninism it's eradicating capitalism and turning it into bolshevik socialism, aka communism. Both are too extreme because what one needs is balance in capitalism versus socialism. That is a social democracy. In truth Bernie Sanders IS a social Democrat and not a democratic socialist! He is pro small businesses, pro trade, pro union and he is NOT against wealth, just against excessive wealth concentrated within a very small group of people. This gentleman on the phone, although he is absolutely right about the issues, is evidence of how broken the system is around the world. Because I have to be upfront about this: the tools that allowed us to rebuild our nations after WWII (I'm Dutch) were varieties of communism/socialism. The east was communist, a part of Spain (Catalonia) was anarchistic (and surprisingly extremely successful!)while the northwest was socialist/communist. Redistribution of money was necessary in order to rebuild our cities, villages and communities, identify and bury our fallen (including our and our allie soldiers) rebuild our complete infrastructure, clear the country of unexploded bombs, mines and other explosives and so on.

People are short-term oriented. They want a better tommorow, a better life for themselves, and vaguely for their children too if possible. People won't just wager on a full-scale armed revolutionary war against the owner class destroying their country in a long drawn out war for the possibility of creating a better society in the ashes of this one. Not enough people are in absolute desperate circumstances for that. But people still want to have that better society by building on the current one if possible. When enough people can't survive and there are no viable political options, only then will that violent revolution come. But that level of self-destruction is not something to wish for. People can gain power with just the threat of violent uprisings alone. An educated populus is key; knowing the root problems of the system and knowing how to systemically transfer power to the people. In that sense Medicare4All is powerful. When people demand the power and take it, it's hard for it to be taken away again. Same for a Living Wage and Jobs Guarentee.

They misused numerous terms and often blatantly ignored earlier Marxist writing.Then Stalin launched a war upon domestic Marxists and leftists, his top enemies, and dragged the country far Right. @@pimpdan241 Thanks for the response. I appreciate the opportunity to explore this issue. Sure, but you'd still likely be stuck with several generations for whom pre-revolutionary thinking and living were a given. As the cliche goes, people don't change their minds. They die and are replaced by younger people with better ideas. Hence the perception that people get more conservative as they get older. They don't, they just stay the same as society shifts around them. Schools would be different after the revolution, but most people out of school (which would be most of the population) would already be set in their pre-revolutionary ways. Perhaps most viciously, corporate psychopath and other high-social dominance folks geared toward finding and exploiting systems for their own benefit would simply switch lanes and start trying to put themselves on top of the new one -- assuming, of course, that they wouldn't be in charge of the revolution, having seen the movement as their best shot at maximizing their own power and status.

It's important to remember that Leninism is simply a method of transitioning to Communism (Marxism) through the use of a communist party. Despite this, Leninists still believe in Marxist ideas and analyses such as dialectical materialism, historical materialism, etc. And while they became quite authoritarian in the Soviet Union (and even more in the Marxist-Leninist-Maoist state in China), it's important to remember that they achieved quite a lot for their people. Furthermore, it is important to realize that there are other forms of Marxist-Leninists, such as the Black Panthers, who created dual power by building mutual aid networks to support their community and break dependence on the government - like their free breakfast program for school children, or police watching in order to reduce incidences of police violence. The late Michael Brooks (Rest in power) was quite the Marxist himself, and while he didn't support Leninist regimes, he could empathize and understand why they thought and operated the way they did.

Why was he cut off? I agree with an organic movement towards a better society that will rid itself of capitalist relationships of production, most of us do. Such a project is not a dinner party, that's what most Leninist understand in theory and some also in practice. Practical questions are also important as was almost about to be discussed, how does one bring down the American army? We should at least discuss it and not equate it with the 'magic of a single mind' as Sam tried to do, which is a slip, since that means he already thinks of the army as a big magic apparatus... but its material, its venerable and history can teach us how such war industries have crumbled before. The conversion of important sections is not to be put off the table, and mutinies are coming, they don't have the time to make it run on anything other than fossil fuel, that seems obvious. Avantguard parties that can lead such autonomous spontaneous uprisings in a general line towards a common goal should not be laughed at since it is the higher algebra of revolution.
