If you ever hope to convince us Catholic Christians that we are deceived and wrong, the #1 step on your part is to actually learn about the Catholic faith, honestly and with genuine effort to properly understand our beliefs. Because as it is, any Catholic Christian even remotely well catechized will immediately recognize that you don't know what you are talking about when it comes to the Catholic faith and are misrepresenting it - knowingly or not. Imagine a Muslim or atheist or anyone else coming to you and trying to convince you that you are wrong and have been deceived, and they then proceed to completely misrepresent your beliefs (Muslims and atheists, for example, do this all the time), and pretends to understand your beliefs better than you do yourself, would you take such a person seriously? So, as long as Catholic Christians read comments such as yours and immediately recognize that their beliefs are being misrepresented, they will not consider anything you have to say - nor should they. So I'd suggest you start by following our Lord's teaching about doing to others as you'd have them do to you. You wouldn't want someone to act as though they were knowledgeable about your beliefs when they obviously aren't, and then proceed to tell you that you are deceived and make a bunch or arguments that are irrelevant to what you actually believe. You wouldn't want others to do that to you, and it wouldn't convince you if they did. So both for moral reasons and practical reasons, you should modify your strategy as to give you at least a chance at convincing someone. And I know, I know. You *think* you are knowledgeable about the Catholic faith. But as a fervent and well studied Catholic Christian, I can assure you that I do not recognize my faith in what you presented and your "argument" completely misses the target.

Well we have people converting to Mormonism. Islam. Atheism. All from all forms of religion. That doesn’t give credence to anything. The church is not the answer. Any church claiming to be the church is itself the biggest delusion. There’s no such thing. The church cannot save my friend. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.

On the contrary, when Christ commanded that the faith be passed on to posterity he specifically enjoined “Apostolic Authority” and “Liturgical traditions” as the proper modes of its transmission. (Matthew 28; Luke 22:19; Luke 10:16) He says not a word about relying on the Bible alone. Neither did the Apostles. You proof text that’s your opinion. There's people who convert to all types of religions, non-religions. So I agree with Zara in that respect, there's not much credence in that alone. People also reject christianity.

@@mc07 Christ would not even bother to create a Church of his own if He thought that it is not necessary and important for our Salvation like Baptism. You are simply confused and wrong. Your problem is that you are a relativist, you don't believe in the Truth, or just believe the 'truths' which are convenient for you. If there is no truth inherent to reality then we or anything in the universe simply couldn't even exist. If there is no truth in any natural phenomenon, such as water or air, or in a human (and, or divine) phenomenon such as the existence of the genuine, original and authentic Church founded by Christ Himself, then we can quit right now to the search of any knowledge or experience, just close your eyes and mind. I "accidentally" tuned in to a radio broadcast of Marcus Grodi telling his own conversion story, and converted to Catholicism in 1997!

So you accepted the roman Catholic version of events and as a roman Catholic you can go beyond the scriptures for your beliefs! You accepted the intercessionof Mary , that is not found in scripture and you accept that you can pray to dead saints alive in heaven as well as Mary to convey your prayers to God by enriching them with their closeness to God , again not found in scripture. You can now believe that baptizing a baby will keep it from limbo , which as any reader of God's word the scriptures will tell you that is utter rubbish. This statement stands out So I said, if I prove they are right, i will leave the Church. Blessing in disguise the conversion shows I started watching was Marcus Grodi’s Journey Home. I learned so much from former non-catholics. If you were a Mormon and watched only Mormon videos what do you think your outcome would be? Oh I'll stay a Mormon !! Read God's word for yourself as you will find that Jesus died once and for all and ALL your sins are forgiven and oddly enough not only is purgatory not mentioned it is not even required as Jesus paid every penalty that is possible . The roman Catholic church does not teach that.

@@ChristIsLord7 Fr. Mike has a good video of why be Catholic instead of Protestant. It has nothing to do with the temple itself as we the believers are the Church; rather, it all boils down to authority. When Jesus leaves, he tells Peter that he is now the rock on which his Church stands, and what he says is almost a word for word reference to Isaiah, where the Kingdom of Heaven has a king (Jesus), but also someone who acts as a “prime minister” guided by the Holy Spirit. When Jesus gives Peter this order, He is establishing His Church and giving Peter the authority to lead the believers, this authority is passed down to the next pope, and the one after it. Actually, in Rome, there’s a piece of marble with EVERY single one of the pope’s starting with St. Peter. We are the only ones who can trace back that authority to the very beginning of the Catholic Church. Now, with this authority, comes the ability to interpret scripture guided by the Holy Spirit, the Church has the authority to tells us when we interpret something wrong and to establish the dogma. Historically, the Church has done it several times. Which is why after 2,000 years, the Catholic Church it is still what it is.

"On this rock"...read the whole context of Matthew 16. "Thou art the Christ" is what Peter SAID, demonstrate why it is not based simply on what he said and then please consider how Peter died as a martyr. For Cameron to go from saying he still wasn't sure about the Office of the Papacy to saying "the evidence of the Papacy is true" without demonstrating the evidence is just silly. Of course, the ever-splintered RCC of bloggers n' such are fine with it because Cameron conceded on the Papacy. They are like "He's home", or rather "he is coming Home; Rome Sweet Rome".

In 2019, I had been Presbyterian or Protestant for 52 years. I went to see the movie Unplanned and knew God spoke to me during that movie. Within 3 months, I had left the Presbyterian Church (who was pro-choice, I had no idea), signed up for RCIA, and started attending the Catholic mass. Within those 3 months, all my objections were resolved. I have never regretted my decision. God is touching your heart and opening your eyes to His Church. There is probably a Catholic Church close to you. Make an appointment with the priest and discuss with him whatever might be keeping you from the Catholic Church. We are all praying for you. @@augustvonmacksen2526 It's sort of a long story. I was removed from my faith for a long while for various reasons, and a lot of events in my life have led me to find my way back. But as I was finding my footing in it again, I was leaning more and more towards Catholicism. It just made sense. The theological arguments were more sound, I fell in love with the liturgy (not the Novus Ordo but the Tridentine and Ordinariate formats), the devotions to Mary, so on and so forth. It all really captivated me and made my choice of direction really easy. It all felt very natural to me and I feel a sense of completeness for the first time in my life. :)

Have you read all the encyclicals and papal documents, CCC and code of canon law to make sure there is no false teachings in them before deciding to become Catholic?

@@Wgaither1 First I ask you: Do you know what Canon Law is? It seems you have no idea of what it is. Here's a brief explanation: Canon Law is the oldest continuous legal system in the western world. It is an internal system of law within the Catholic Church which respects civil law, as long as civil law is not in conflict with what the Church sees as just and moral. The current Code of Canon Law was promulgated in 1983 by Pope John Paul II. The 1983 Code is a revision of the previous 1917 Code. The revision was a direct result of the Second Vatican Council (1962-65), and the goal of the revision process was to translate the Second Vatican Council’s teaching into the 1983 Code. Regarding your negative attitude towards the one Church Jesus founded, here's something you missed about a God that NEVER changes who fulfills what He promised: ▪︎MATTHEW 16:18-19 18. And so I say TO YOU, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build MY CHURCH, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. 19. I will give you the Keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Notice the specificity of the words: "My Church" in singular. Furthermore, the divine promise is upon Peter and his successors who will inherit the keys for the benefit of future generations. I ask you: Do you really think divisions are acceptable to our Lord? He therefore tells you and all divided members of protestant churches and sects what He wants them to be: JOHN 17:21-23 21. so that they MAY ALL BE ONE, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me. 22. And I have given them the glory you gave me, so that they may BE ONE, as WE ARE ONE, 23. I in them and you in me, that they may be brought to PERFECTION AS ONE, that the world may know that you sent me, and that you loved them even as you loved me. "PERFECTION AS ONE" Gives no room for exceptions in the singular "Church" built on Peter which is forever guided to ALL TRUTH. ▪︎JOHN 16:13 13 But when the Spirit of truth has arrived, he will teach the whole truth to you. For he will not be speaking from himself. Instead, whatever he will hear, he will speak. And he will announce to you the things that are to come. @@joecastillo8798 Wgaither1 was the person that seemed to troll Catholic pages when I was still Protestant but starting to attend RCIA classes back in 2019. He consistently attacked Church teaching. He rejected anything I said on the Catholic page. His attacks convinced me that I was where God wanted me, learning the truth about what Jesus Christ actually taught. I was confirmed Catholic in 2020.

Jesus pulled me outta paganism too. I used to worship a goddess and was a trance medium, so I'm not really sure how to reconcile anything with Mary and the saints. It looks the same to me. Do you have any suggestions for me?

⁠@@purplenalgene I would say it’s easier to pray to Mary and the saints when you realize you are still praying to Jesus just through them. You are not worshiping them, you are just asking them to intercede for you.

There are infinite resources to support your journey!! Pints is a great start, but for the women in your family I recommend Blessed is She (they make kids products too). They also have a couple things geared towards couples. Also Formed has great resources, as does the Word on Fire institute… I might start with WoF if I were you!!

Father Chris Alar has many great teaching videos, including a couple that go through every detail of the Mass. I recommend his videos as well as Catholic Answers. As a cradle Catholic, I've learned a lot that I never knew before.

So why should anyone "be Catholic"? What exactly does that mean? What would be a few important differences between Catholicism and biblical Christianity?

They say so what's the difference, what's the main difference between, like, the Catholic Church, and any of the other Protestant denominations or non-Catholic churches. Maybe it would be this, maybe it would be authority. And I know that's a bad word, many of us we don't like it, we're like, blah, authority! That doesn't sit right with me. What do you mean "authority"? I would say this That the Church has the ability to teach us. They teach authoritatively. The Church has the ability to teach us in the name of Jesus, in the power of the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father, that the Church has the ability to tell us, this is true, and this is not true; that the Church has the ability to establish doctrine. And I'm not talking about some invisible kind of like universal body of believers. I'm talking about the Church that Jesus himself founded back in Matthew chapter . Jesus looks at Simon and says, "Simon, your name is now Peter, 'rock'. And upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it." He goes on to say "I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven." Now, here's the interesting thing that you may or may not know. Jesus came to establish the kingdom, right? But it's not an invisible kingdom. Why? Because we can look at Jesus, as the king, establishes the kingdom, but when He says to Peter, you know, Simon, now Peter, he says "I give you the keys to the kingdom etc. etc." He's referencing Isaiah, the book of the Prophet Isaiah. And in Isaiah, there's this role, in the kingdom there's a role, there's the king obviously, but there's also the prime minister, the one who is the overseer. And when the king is gone, this person is in charge, this person has the authority of the king. It says that in Isaiah chapter . And it's almost word for word what Jesus gives to Peter. The keys to the kingdom of heaven. He gives the Church a visible structure, and an actual hierarchy. And he says you can actually teach now, teach in my name, the Holy Spirit will lead you to all truth to be able to teach in my name. And this is exactly what happens. In the Acts of the Apostles chapter , they're this big crisis, and the crisis is, the apostles had been evangelizing the Jews. So, basically they were all Jews. And they realised, Jesus is the fulfilment of Judaism, Jesus is the Messiah we were waiting for. So they're sharing the good news with Jewish people. It was awesome. But then they realised, because Peter had a vision, and Paul was called to do this too, that they were called to bring the Gospel to non-Jews. Which is amazing and good because I am a non-Jew, and I get to be brought in, right? To the people of God. The question came up. OK, so when you evangelize Jews all you need to get is baptized because, they're already circumcised. They're already in the Old Covenant. So in order to be brought into the fulfilment of the Covenant, the New Covenant, they just have to be baptised. But if you're evangelizing Gentiles, question, do they first have to be circumcised, and then be baptized? Or can they just be baptised? Now you can see at least two ways why this would be a very important question. One is if you were an adult Gentile man this would kind of be a big question he would want answered, 'do I have to do this? Or is this kinda optional?' You want that resolved ahead of time. But secondly, even more importantly, if I need to get circumcised in order to get baptised, and I'm not, that means I'm not saved. Like, "Do we have to do this in order to be saved?" is the big question. The problem is, Jesus never taught about that, and the Bible never teaches about this. And this is the problem, the problem with a thing called "Sola Scriptura'" or "Bible Alone". You know, one of the pillars of the Reformation was this idea that "Bible Alone" or "Scripture Alone" you don't need the church you only need "Bible Alone". What about when the Bible doesn't teach something? What do we do? Well, what happened was in Acts chapter the apostles came together and again I'm not saying some loose kind of invisible church, but the actual structure of the Church. Those apostles, the people that Jesus himself called, Peter as the pope, Paul and Barnabas, to have this body of the Church. And the Church gets together, and they discuss, and they debate, and they pray, and then they decided. They said, "it seems to the Holy Spirit, and to us, that we should not impose this on Gentiles, they do not have to be circumcised in order to be baptized." And, in that moment you can see in the Bible that the Church, again, the visible Church, the structure of the Church, governance of the Church has the ability to teach.

@@jessebryant9233 PART 2 And not just to teach, but to teach definitively, not merely optionally. And if you're a student of history, you see that this is not the only time, in fact the Church has to do this again and again and again, because people pick up the Old Testament and they pick up the New Testament Scriptures, which also the Church gave us. Another video by the way. And they say, "Well I've come to the conclusion that Jesus isn't really God ... I mean he's clearly God. I mean he came to earth, he rose from the dead, he's clearly God. I think he only looked like human." And that was a heresy called Docetism, in fact it was one of the earliest heresies, was that Jesus was fully God, but he wasn't fully man. In the Church, again not this generic, invisible Church, but the actual, physical, structure or hierachy of the Church said, "That's incorrect." Then other people came along and said, well he's fully human but maybe he's only partly God, like 'quasi' God like the Aryans. And the Church came together at the Council of Nicaea (325 A.D.) and they said, "No, Jesus is fully God, and fully man." Two natures, human and divine, in one divine person. Now, every Christian in the world believes that. Why? Because in some way, whether they admit it or not, every single Christian in the world believes that the Catholic Church has the authority to teach. Every Christian who believes in the Trinity, that God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, co-equal, co-eternal that no one is greater than the other believes that, because of the authority of the Catholic Church. Because the Church came together at the Council of Nicaea, the Council of Constantinople, and all the other Church Councils, and declared this. That this is the interpretation of the text. And we need that, here's the crazy thing, we need that so badly, OK, here's a little mental exercise. Imagine that you are God, for some of you this will not be the first time today that you did this. And it is so important to you, that the people you created know who you truly are, that they don't get you wrong. So what do you do? Well, you don't want to overwhelm them with your beauty and power and glory and truth because then they might have to serve you out of fear. You want them to fall in love with you, and you want them to know who you truly are. So you start small, you start with this guy named Abraham, or Abram, you know he changed his name to Abraham. You bring him slowly and slowly and then his family, you reveal yourself slowly to his family and then to his tribe, and then to his people, you call the Jewish people, the chosen people of God and you slowly reveal yourself to them and very carefully, because you don't want them to get any part of you wrong. And then in the fullness of time , years ago, you yourself actually become one of them. You become a human being. And in that, you reveal who you truly are, and you don't do it as the most powerful one, or as the greatest one, or as the richest one, you take the lowest place as a humble, poor person. And you die as a criminal. You let yourself be overwhelmed by suffering and death. Why? Because it's so important to you as God that people know the truth and depth of your heart. Then you rise from the dead, you send your Holy Spirit to the apostles and then they write down all these things. And, while they're writing these things down, you preserve it. Why? Because it's very important to you as God that they write down exactly what you want them to write down, and no more and no less. And then, over the course of years, as they're translating it, as they're copying it you, by your Holy Spirit you guide that copying, you guide that translating, so that they don't get you wrong. Why? Because it's very important to you as God that no one gets you wrong. Here's this infallible book, right? It's a book that has, it's without error. Now, it's not without scientific error, because it's not a scientific book, it's a book of poetry, it's a book of truth, it's a book of goodness. (There's a whole other video about that). The point is, you compile this infallible book through fallible people. But you compile this infallible book, now, if you were God, would it make any sense for you to then say, "OK" to anyone, "Here's this infallible book, boom, take it, read it, tell me what you think." No you wouldn't. Why? Because an infallible book, without an infallible interpreter, is a worthless book. Right? The Bible is infallible, but without an infallible interpreter it's like, that's why you have ,+ denominations of Christianity in the United States. Because, you know, someone picks it up and says, 'Oh, here's what I think.' someone else picks it up, 'no no no, here's what I think.' That's one of the reasons why G.K. Chesterton back in the day he had said, while he was Catholic, they said he said Because I don't need a church who can tell me when I'm right, I need a Church that will tell me where I'm wrong. So if you ask, you know what's the big difference between the Catholic Church and all the non-Catholic Christian denominations?' I'd say, when it comes down to it, I think what it comes down to is right there. Authority.

I came into the church in Easter 2019. I found a community later that year, and i now have the best family. I have found the most peace within the last 6 months. My Protestant family has started to accept me, and I’m so thankful God led me to the truth.

We also provide a cheaper health care service and education in the common sense (like math, science, etc) and the biblical sense ( religion and church beliefs) Also, almost every Catholics churches, especially the big ones have a homeless center that provides food, clothing, showers, laundry, bed, etc. to hundreds of people every week. They also provide a variety of programs to help their brothers and sisters in need get back on their feet. All of their efforts are completely funded by donations. In our Catholic faith, we learn that charity is a divinely infused virtue which lets us focus our will to cherish God above all things. God always multiply your blessings, when you give for his will and love, is probably why the church is so blessed. I don’t know why things happen to other people who are homeless and sick, or commit crime and other places with so many corruptions and their kids pay the prices which is so heartbroken. I believe that God is love and wants to help, but some people chose to live that way and forcing their love ones to live with it. God gave us the gift of the will to choose, and he’s always waiting for us to change so he can intercede. People think they can do whatever they want base on that will, but they don’t know that there are consequences that came with it, then they blame others for that. Now they blame the Catholics. Stop making excuses and do the Will of God, he already die for our sin and salvation. Repent

Similar story for my wife and I. Soon after we got married we started being pulled in a serious way toward the Church. I remember going to lunch after church one day (still very much evangelical) and wondering how to broach the subject of looking at a different option for church. Turns out she was thinking the same thing. After a brief detour through an Episcopal parish, we were received in the Church just over 3 years after we were married. To the chagrin if our families, of course. 😅 I’m still amazed at how powerfully the Spirit was moving in our hearts at the same time.

Show your husband this.👇🏽 Without Christ stamp of "authority" our brothers and sisters are adrift in no-mans land. From conception the Church was an OFFICIAL sect within Judaism. When you read Acts 1 and if you are familiar with Halakhah Law you will immediately notice that the Church is a legal entity WITHIN Judaism. There are 3 requirements which are met. Firstly, notice that there are 120 members in this synagogue. Why is this important? It is the exact number of persons in the Halakhah regulations to form a full fledged synagogue. The 120 is the Knesset HaGadolah which was supposed to be restored in the Olam Haba when Messiah comes. Judaism and Catholicism was born on Shavuot/Pentecost. To this day the Catholic Conclave has a maximum limit of 120 electors to elect the Pope. Secondly next according to Halakhah regulations there must be a "beit din" (Hebrew court) formed. We see that there is a beit-din and it draws lots and Matthias a disciple is chosen to take over Judas bishopric (episkopen). The first example of Apostolic Succession. So two of the three requirements are met. The third requirement is that there must be a NASI (prince/temporal) and an AB (father/spiritual) appointed. Curiously Peter is filling both these positions in this beit din. Why? In 190 BC the Kohan Gadol (jewish high-priest) fell into apostasy and bei-din gadol (Hebrew court) cast a vote of no confidence splitting the Kohan Gadol into two offices the "NASI" and the "AB" within the Beit Din Gadol. Fast forward to Matt16, in this new Beit Din Gadol (70 disciples) Christ has placed His confidence in Peter (the first AB/father/pope meaning papa) by presenting him the Keys to the temple/governance bringing the two offices back into one high priesthood the way it originally was. Rachi/Jewish sage writes a commentary on the priestly role of the steward/vizier and the Keys are the keys of the Temple and Authority. When the davidic kings were away the steward/vizier of the davidic kingdoms was in charge and he wore the keys the King gave him. The pope has both temporal and spiritual powers. Peter is the NASI prince of the apostles and the AB/pope (Pope meaning papa - meaning father) as you see even today the pope as Peters documented unbroken apostolic successor is both ‘nasi’ and the ‘ab’ in Catholicism. Christ appointed Peter as His steward with the keys as per Isaiah 22 vs 19-24 and Matt16. Peter/successors is First amongst equals. In the Davidic kingdoms there was always an al-bayith (steward/vizier), that is Peters role. Christ also renames Peter (the only Apostle renamed) as Abraham and Jacob were renamed by God in preparation for their specific role in salvation history. The Apostles knew exactly what had occurred when Jesus gave Peter the keys. Jesus presents the keys to Peter (Pope/ab) and appoints him/his successors as His royal steward to care for HIs flock until His return. Peter's successors (Popes) are first amongst equals ie the bishops. It's not a lording over them type of role. He figuratively sits in the Seat of Moses which we now call the Seat of Peter. Moses had the 70 elders who he consulted as equals. First book of Kings lists all the Kings and the royal steward/vizier is always listed next to the King because in the absence of the King he was in charge of the Kingdom. The steward would wear the keys around his neck so the citizens of the davidic kingdoms knew who he was. The steward is given the sash/robes/keys to the temple because the role is also a priestly role. Jesus created a Melchezidek priesthood (which pre-exists the Aaronic priesthood). This is why all Catholic priests belong to the order of Melchizedek, the fulfilment of the theophany of Melchizedek giving wine/bread to Father Abraham. Jesus, Son of David rebuilt the davidic kingdom as per 2SamCh7 - He is the King, Peter/successors/Popes are His royal stewards/viziers and the Hebrew court/beit-din is the Magesterium. Catholicism is not a new religion, it is the legitimate continuation of Temple Judaism (not Rabbinic Judaism). Catholics do not throw out what G-d has revealed prior and these continue to hold that all that is revealed is a single continuous revelation culminating in the Catholic Faith. Jesus is Son of David rebuilding the Davidic kingdom per 2SamCh7 - one of these sons will establish this throne forever and this son will be Gods son. Luke1 vs32-35 -In midrash 2319 - Petra midrash Abraham is referred to as Rock -Thanksgiving hymn of the Dead Sea Scrolls it mentions the fact that the jewish people are built on a Rock -Isaiah 51/vs 1-2 “look to the rock from which you were hewn, look to Abraham your father and Sarah your mother.” -Matt 10vs2 list of Apostles, Peter is listed first/protos Judaism and Catholicism is the same faith in two covenants one old and another new.

Only suggestions for each person to make their way: 1. I read the Bible everyday and journaled...especially verses that spoke to my situation...trusting in the Lord. I engaged the Lord through prayer, in my struggles with this. 2. I believed then and now that the LOVE of GOD is not a formula that requires us to browbeat family into submission. 3. God loves marriage and asks us to honor our spouses. Read 1Cor 7, esp. 10-24. In our best judgment, I believe God honors our walk in bringing His truths to our spouses. You are definitely being obedient! In the Protestant/Catholic "wars/debates" there are those who will disagree with me, but Paul says it better than I. 4. I remembered my own 40 years of agnosticism/atheism. I remembered resenting a "heavy handed" presentation of the Gospel. I had to encounter Christ (immediately and unexpectedly) or I would probably have remained agnostic. 5. I openly read Catholic literature, especially on the saints. There are many admirable Protestant saintly people, and it was easy to share with my husband (books/articles/movies) the lives of these good people along with Catholic saints in their love of and service to God. 6. EWTN - I watched shows openly. I didn't force them on my husband and gave him his own TV time. But the presence of EWTN gave witness to the love and sanctity of the Catholic Church. (If KZfaq, don't hide yourself in the closet.) 7. Remember the first Christians who listened to Peter, Paul and the other apostles. I'm sure these converts struggled, too. It's tempting to feel alone when attending Mass without our spouse. But we can rest in the love of Christ. I'm not a priest, and I'm sure there are those who will encourage you. 8. I was not afraid to tell my husband I looked forward to becoming Catholic. I was also willing to attend both Mass for myself and his own church's service. I refrained from Protestant communion and other practices inconsistent with our own Catholic sacraments. 9. Most importantly, I believe, I never spoke against Protestantism or his church (led by a few ex-Catholics). ;) I reinforced my love for my husband and assured him that I honored his faith in Christ, even as it wasn't Catholic. I was open that I hoped one day he would feel that same comfort in seeing me as a Catholic. But I didn't press the point or push. (See #4) Love wins the day. :) God bless your journey! There's a problem of perception that you read about in the Tower of Babel story where they tried to build a tower to the heavens without God and it fell to the ground. The idea that there is no truth to cling to and "who's to say?" Is part of the tower of babel or culture of death. In the reformation, the Christian world went from objective morality to subjective morality, from we hold the truth in the body and blood of Christ to "Who's to say?" We went from objective morality in Thomistic perspective that God is fully sufficient not dependent on our interpretation to a relic in the mind of each person in post enlightenment Cartesian philosophical thought, "I think therefore I am." This represents a full shift from the morality objective to subjective and from objective reality to subjective reality. When Catholics eat the body of Christ in the Eucharist (in good faith), that's home because it's a submission to a objective morality and reality and solves the problem of perception in the Tower of Babel. A lot of Christians wrestle with those perceptions and there's no shame in it, but being submissive to an authority and believing in Christ in the Eucharist are acts of humility, not pride. Christ told Peter, "You are the rock on which I build my Church." And Jesus said, "55For My flesh is real food, and My blood is real drink. 56Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me, and I in him. 57Just as the living Father sent Me and I live because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on Me will live because of Me.…". We're just grounding ourselves in the authority and reality of Christ. Submission to truth takes more humility than "who's to say? If no one claims to have truth we're all equal in not knowing." That's not meant to be a dig at your religion, it's just explaining why welcoming someone home is an act of submission and not pride so that you don't have a misconception of what Catholics believe or the spirit in which I've said it. Jesus said his Church would be “the light of the world.” He then noted that “a city set on a hill cannot be hid” (Matt. 5:14). This means his Church is a visible organization. It must have characteristics that clearly identify it and that distinguish it from other churches. Jesus promised, “I will build my Church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it” (Matt. 16:18). This means that his Church will never be destroyed and will never fall away from him. His Church will survive until his return. Among the Christian churches, only the Catholic Church has existed since the time of Jesus. Every other Christian church is an offshoot of the Catholic Church. The Eastern Orthodox churches broke away from unity with the pope in 1054. The Protestant churches were established during the Reformation, which began in 1517. There is ample evidence in the New Testament that Peter was first in authority among the apostles. Whenever they were named, Peter headed the list (Matt. 10:1-4, Mark 3:16-19, Luke 6:14-16, Acts 1:13); sometimes the apostles were referred to as “Peter and those who were with him” (Luke 9:32). Peter was the one who generally spoke for the apostles (Matt. 18:21, Mark 8:29, Luke 12:41, John 6:68-69), and he figured in many of the most dramatic scenes (Matt. 14:28-32, 17:24-27; Mark 10:23-28). A walled city might have one great gate; and that gate had one great lock, worked by one great key. To be given the key to the city-an honor that exists even today, though its import is lost-meant to be given free access to and authority over the city. The city to which Peter was given the keys was the heavenly city itself. I’ve been troubled by the whole Bayesian analysis for this case. The issue is the aggregation of probability mass of world inconsistent to each other. Those arguments influenced each others. What do you think as econometrician?

Perhaps the German bishops are onto something. This is reason we should stay together. The church of the apostles went over a huge crisis over circumcision, and meat sacrificed to idols. Many conflicts lead to healthy reform of the church. Sometimes we lose faith on the active presence of the Holy Spirit in the church, the whole church, at all time.

Its acually not very huge. The vast majority of Christians have no idea who these two people are and churches all across America are hemorrhaging members with Catholics leading the way. You also don't get reconciliation through conversion, that's just "switching teams."

I would respectfully disagree and argue that that's a great overstatement of the importance of this. In the KZfaq world of Christian apologetics, it's a major splash, but in the larger scheme of relations between Catholics and Protestants, it's not even a blip on the radar. I agree that protestants and catholics could use an increase in substantive, charitable discourse ... but this event, while interesting in its realm, doesn't have the weight or relevance to move the needle in the grand scheme of things.

@@Henry._Jones I see your point. I'm more optimistic though. Also I think you underestimate the power of social media influencers. "the grand scheme of things" does not exist in my view. In other words, it may not do much for Christians 40+ but for younger generations of believers on both sides of the christian fence, this is fairly significant. There isnt any other major protestant christian influencer that has converted to Catholicism (to me my memory)

@@1991jj I agree it's a big deal, I just think the realm in which it has much import isn't a huge swath in the larger picture of Protestant-Catholic relations ("overall"). That doesn't mean it can't be meaningful in a certain demographic. Someone like Bishop Robert Barron, I think, over time, is more likely to sustain a bigger impact b/c of his interaction on social and cultural issues with which many non-Catholics are of like or similar mind. I'm a protestant myself, but I've been keeping up with Barron a good bit for several years. I also think the high profile of Cameron's conversion may not carry on all that long if he does what he says he's planning to, which is to continue his channel with a "mere Christianity" kind of approach, in which case it won't have a Catholic focus. I could be wrong, or, he could change his mind or pursue it in a more nuanced way. In any event, it is a big deal, I don't want to minimize it! Cheers! 👍

Amazing! I know the Holy Spirit was the driving force of your conversion, but I'd be curious to know when/how you noticed the softening of your Anti-Catholic views? I'm a cradle Catholic raised by amazing parents, who were passionately Catholic, but never ever hateful toward other faiths. We've raised our children the same way. It always pains me greatly when I read/hear/see the vitriol towards Catholicism. I acknowledge there are ugly behaving Catholics, which is so painful as well, just wondering if you think it's more. How do you handle Anti-Catholic now? God's blessing to you on your continued faith journey.

@@colleenkramer1808 When I got married and had children (still Protestant then) I wanted to deepen my faith for the sake of my family; I wanted to teach my children the truth without assuming my views were correct... The deeper into our faith life we got (first Lent; then Advent; later the notion of saints) I found myself softening to the fact that Catholics seemed to 'get stuff' that Protestant denominations didnt... When I compared this to the lack of consensus of Protestant groups, and especially how Protestant groups buckle more and more often to contemporary issues (whether contraceptives, abortion, divorce and remarriage, or whatever) It got to a point where I knew I needed to hear what Catholicism had to say for itself.... After all that, a deep dive of the Early Church, the history of the 73 vs 66 book canon, and a few other issues, caused me to finally take the plunge across the Tiber... In terms of who has worse 'vitriol' I don't hear a lot from Catholics... What I see more often from Catholics (which makes me sad) is an ignorance/nonchalance about their own faith (which I fought so hard for)... or those who were "raised Catholic"; they abandon the faith and think they are major experts, while oftentimes missing even the basics, and super critical of caricatures that don't really represent the Church. ​​@@matthewbateman6487 It's such a blessing to have a guy like you in the fold! That's unfortunately true about cradle Catholics, too... I should know, I am one. A lot of that is more complicated than simple apathy, though. I must say, a big part of my reversion was getting over my own psychological insecurities about faith. I was always jealous of converts, particularly the previously secular ones, because they never had any reason to suspect that what they believe could simply be a result of a form of indoctrination - not in a nefarious way, but it's like when you're raised with that which *IS THE TRUTH* and so many others lack it, that can lead to a lot of subconscious doubt, like survivor's guilt or something. Especially when you get heavily into apologetics, there's a certain urge to compensate to the secular world in terms of "more-logical-than-thou." My response to that was probably unhealthy, but it worked out in the end. I had to strip my mind of all previously established epistemology, basically. Then, I practically started over and found myself right where I began, thanks be to God! There's a lot of sheer apathy in the Church, to be sure, but I think that other thing - whatever I went through - is a phenomenon that isn't really as widely-discussed as it should be. Similarly, I always had the luxury of being a "free agent" with regards to my reversion. I didn't always grasp how difficult it could be for a Protestant to confront one's family and such. I'd like to think that I now approach that with a greater degree of humility these days. Even at my "most agnostic," I would always take the side of the Catholics against the Protestants, based on all the history and theology we both know and love today. If you believe and accept Christ is Lord, then we are all of the body of Christ, you write? Who told you that? So every man is free to compose his own gospel and doctrines? That is as false as a 30-dollar bill. Take only all heretics and schismatics of history: they are not part of the body and all are damned, at least according to all the great Saints of history.

Rhe lord is calling you to truth He is not calling you to join a church group that has several false doctrines presented as truth. Believers are born again and in a permanent state of grace , roman Catholics do not believe that and a works gospel is presented which the scriptures do not support.
