I'm going to use a e 303 cam in a 1996 explorer engine. Did you install a new timing chain . if so did you have to use a different year timing chain . I think I will be using a carburetor and distributor

I did it 95 mazda b3000 with 97 explorer 5.0 gt40p heads stock added e303 cam and electric cutouts

Sick! Just bought a 97 awd 5.0 explorer. It’s a daily as I build my 10 Camaro SS. But have to build the explorer also. Guess go NA build with a 150 shot for fun. Going boost will be hard cause no one makes a turbo manifold for it.

Sounds amazing man, I also have a 5.0 explorer that I’m looking into swapping the E303 cam into. Did you have to change the pushrods or rockers arms with the swap? Been hearing different things about it, I do know that it is recommended to swap the valve springs on the truck.

@@iqinsanity no. I have a ranger, 98, same engine bay, and having pulled radiator, and condenser to install the the 5.0, no. I wouldn't risk dinging the cam on anything, especially body work. Machined edge will shave paint and yeah.. just not worth that struggling. You have to remove accessories, hood, lines, intake, water pump, timing cover.. and then find 15-20 inches of space inside of 7-10" of available space. With as available as a roller 302 is, I say put one together on the stand, and install the engine whole..

@@PureCountryof91 Second this. 5.0's are easy to come by. It is much easier to build another engine on the side and install when finished. You'll save a lot of down time that way.

Not sure i tune with tunerstudio on the street no dyno. But if i had to guess with what I've done it's probably around 300-320hp and probably around 350 for torque. If you're doing a 5.0 explorer your biggest hurdle with power is going to be the exhaust manifolds due to the steering shaft in the way only one company makes headers. BTW new video's soon im gathering parts to go boosted with a single turbo.

I have a 1999 mountaineer 5.0 I'm looking for that aggressive sound like that.. what are the cam specs and will I have to change the valve springs?

@@erictaylor6764 its an e303 cam the specs are available on google it has 40P heads and you dont have to change valve springs but i would definitely recommend it if you're planning to up the revs any or stay high in the rpms for an extended period of time. Yes i am fabbing my own manifold there is not much room on these trucks so i have no other option im doing single turbo with exhaust exiting under the front bumper.i have a set of trick flow aluminium heads otw and a holley carb intake with injector bungs im going to use a carb to throttle body adapter. I also ordered a monster transmission 4wd 4r70w that will work woth my awd capable of handling 1000hp.I will have a new video posted in probably around a week showing off my progress and new parts. Stay tuned this thing ought to be a monster

@@refugiorod Thank you it's my own custom setup torque monster headers and full stainless with magnaflow bullet resonators dumped in front of rear tires and no cats. I setup 2 step in tunerstudio and need to get a video of it. it's the most ridiculous 2 step i have ever heard

So would the process be different for a 2000 Ford Explorer awd? I’ve seen things about pushrod length and something about using a distributor instead of coil packs, can someone help me?

It would be the same. With any pushrod engine, when you change anything in the valve train you may need different length pushrods due to different tolerances. They make plastic adjustable purshrods so you can measure how long you need. As for distributor you can convert to a distributor and use either a carb or aftermarket efi system or just use the factory coil pack and get a custom ECU tune.
