We love the outdoors, and naturally we love cooking in the outdoors. We own quite a few pieces of cast iron, and when we found out that Lodge Cast Iron had something new, we were intrigued. We discovered that it would cost us more to ship Lodge’s new Cook-it-All than it would be to drive there and back, so we decided to travel there on Labor Day weekend and get one in person. The Cook-it-All is a cooker that you can cook different types of food over hot coals. It is especially designed for people who like to camp and cook. One of the things you can cook well is pizza. In this video, we made a simple pizza and cooked it on our Cook-it-All. The video includes some footage we shot on our way to South Pittsburg, TN, and it concludes with our first impressions of using this new cast iron product. We hope you will find this video helpful.

Thank you for the review, looks like another winner for Lodge. I only have two lodge CI skillets and they are used everyday, great products. The pizza looks delicious👍🏻👍🏻Thanks for sharing!

I have two Lodge dutch ovens, and one of their skillet's with the cover and only used one of the dutch oven's in the kitchen so far. It looks nice and I love how fine it looks too. Cleaning the dutch oven wasn't difficult and it seem to be in the same condition which I received it in new. I did season the unit after it was cleaned and dried and did notice one spot on the cover from rust, but that was taken care of and now it is nice. I got these cast iron cookware pieces because I was tired of buying non stick cookware every two years or less due to the coating coming off in the food.

Thank you for sharing. We love our Dutch ovens. When we are camping, we use it to cook, bake, and reheat meals.

A few things I saw and questions I had. Maybe if you woikd have placed the flat surface on the coals directly it woukd have browned up the crust more. Also what is two table you are uaig called?

Thanks, Dan. We definitely didn't put enough coals on the bottom. The Cook-it-all is really designed to cook over a campfire, which is why it is so thick. We are camping this weekend and will be trying it out there.

When we made the pizza, we didn't really have an issue with ash falling on the pizza. I don't know if it was because we used lump charcoal or we just got lucky. The second time we used it, we used regular charcoal and made nachos. We did notice ash falling when we put the oven lid back on, but fortunately it happened right after the lid had closed. The main reason we bought the cook-it-all was for making pizza. It did a good job, but we underestimated the amount of heat required to do the job right.

The "Backwoods Gourmet" (here on youtube) also had minimal success, with pizza on his new Cook it all. He has shown that due to the large size, this thing needs extra heat to cook food properly. Ie: Use it in a camp fire! Side note...if you put your Basil on your pizza, right after you finish cooking it. The basil wont turn black and wilt. Have fun.

The Iron table itself is robbing you of some BTUs. Try putting your coals on a clay floor tile instead of directly on the iron table and it may help to achieve a more balanced cook?

@Tonnsfabrication

IDK if the glaze would be an issue or not ? Standard tiles glaze at a temp near 1400 F and a charcoal bed like this will be lucky to hit 600F on a good day. In this application, You'd try to spread the coals as not to burn the food thus even reducing temps. With the table stealing half the heat, I'd say this under bed of coals never exceeded 200F which is why it never fully cooked. The practice of lining a metal firebox with brick is common because clay materials transfer heat slower, thus holding thermal mass instead of allowing thermal transfer.
@josephcampese5347
@josephcampese5347 5 жыл бұрын
My only point was, unglazed tiles are more utilitarian because they are less expensive and thicker. Less expensive is always good. It seems to me for this application thicker would retain heat longer, which is good. And supports your last sentence. Finally, glazed tile generally has a design or style component hence the extra cost. Think picturesque back splash behind a stove. That's glazed tile. Unglazed is a hotel kitchen or restaurant floor.
