@@ASM-RADIO those are standard in the Netherlands, where most of our roads are beside a canal or river. They are velcroed within (blind) reaching distance of the driver and there's one for the passenger too. I so agree with you!

If the car is not full of water, the water pressure on the outside will try to push the window inwards. However, I'd you try to hit it, tour trying to push the window outwards and will probably slow down the time to break the window. If the car is full of water too, there will be equal pressure pushing the window inwards and outwards, so will have no effect on the window apart from squeezing

As others said, use the corner of the window. Additionally, the curvature of the glass gives it it’s strength, and when he applied force with both points of the headrest, it distributed the force. Apply force in the smallest possible area by using only one of the metal points.

The problem with that idea is both spikes are equally lengthed and spaced. And from a sitting position like how you'd normally be, getting the end to a window corner is not viable. What could help is instead sharpening the spikes to a razor tip and/or cutting one an inch shorter.

You place the metal tips against the window at the base, wedged between it and the rubber seal. Press firmly and simply pull back. It will shatter quickly. No violent movement necessary.

you can actually use spark plug to break a window, so: 1. get outside the car 2. open the hood to the engine 3. pull the coil 4. use the right socket size to take your spark plug 5. remember righty tighty lefty loosey 6. just fling the spark plug to your side window and it will broke

Kinda. That glass is made to take blunt force trauma. If you apply sheer pressure or a point that is harder than the glass, it will shatter. A broken shard of porcelain can be thrown through a window for instance

Keep in mind to have your hands and arms covered if possible. I know an EMT who didn’t have rescue gloves on when they popped a window. They cut their hand so bad they needed surgery.

It's a good idea to have a proper glass breaker but also you were hitting it in the middle of the glass if you wanted to break it with ease just hit one of the edges because when you hit it in the middle it has the most area to disperse the impact

I do Fire rescue and the proper position to hit is the corner of the window not the middle. Corner closest to the doors swing is the best but both lower corners usually work. They are drained weaker for rescue to break it faster.

I’m a glass technician and I can promise you that this is LAMINATED glass, the same type that the windshield is made out of, it’s WAY less prone to shattering due to how it’s made Most Normal cars have tempered glass for the doors, which would shatter completely in a single blow or two from that headrest

Now try the front windshield using only your legs to kick the window out. Side windows are reenforced from 3 to 4 sides pending if it's all the up. Front and rear windows are only glued in. Show the differences in the effort it takes between the two.

I was told the best way to use the rest is to jam one of the forks into the lower section of the window sill and apply linear force in the form of hitting it, don’t know how to use it but the science behind it was that the glass is less convex down there so it’s weaker
