The loader specs came from this page: www.deere.com/en/loaders/front-end-loaders-for-tractors/120r-loader/ It says that the 49" (1250mm) bucket was used. I have the 53" (1350mm) bucket.

I’m glad you did this. I’m tired of a couple of people putting these little tractors down about the lift capacity. They need the right tool for the job. This little tractor is a lot of bang for the buck in my opinion.

Excellent video and good job explaining what NOT to do (driving across rough terrain at speed with a heavy load in the bucket).

Finally a video that shows the capability of the loader. Never been able to figure out if it had enough power. I’d be curious to see the difference in the 2025r that has a bit more hydraulic power.

Love my 1025r. I’ve had it balancing on the front axle with a heavy load and was able to move it very slowly and cautiously. Also when doing my driveway I can lift a full mounding bucket of flex base. A 2 or 3 series would be nice but this 1 series is about all I honestly need.

WOW Tim great video as usual. That trick was wonderful I could have used it last summer when i was trying to move a paver step. I only needed to move it 4' and just couldn't get it without some assistance. I also agree with what you said regarding moving that much weight as I wouldn't move anymore than absolutely required at a very slow speed. Thanks again for sharing!

Very good Tim & Christy! I tried to lift my 2048 rotary cutter (516 lbs spec.) with the forks and 1025R started to raise the rear end. Wound up just picking up on the front and letting the rear wheel take the rest. Loaded tires but with backhoe removed. Like you said, GO SLOW!! Thanks as always very informative.

Oh to jump onto another subject, I played out in Michigan's cool weather this late afternoon for five hours, pushing snow with the back blade, and loader bucket. My 2025R did fine, but wow those "Edge Tamers" worked great on the bucket !!!

The pressure relief valve is constant. The difference is the increased volume made by the pump spinning faster and the relief valve not being able to relieve it quick enough.

Very good video Tim! I found that the weak link on the 1025R is the small tires on the front axle. I have ruined two tires using a heavy load in the bucket. The tires didn’t blow out, they just separated the rubber from the cords and both times I ended up with bubbled up sidewalls. Just a little FYI. Thanks for the videos.

I purchased a used 1025r tlb, same year as Johnny 1, with about 400 hrs on the clock. I felt that the hydraulics were a little anemic. After watching some of your vids it definitely needs work. At idle it will barely lift the empty bucket. I can only get 1850 to 1900 psi on the loader port at full throttle. I will repair or replace the relief valve first. If I end up replacing the pump, I am going to compare it to the pump on a 2025r as it would supply approximately 1 more gpm. FYI - the liquid in the gauge is glycerin to dampen the needle because of fluid pulses coming from the pump. The best part of your channel is that your whole family is involved and supportive.

Great information. I have a 2210 with a very similar lift capacity so all good but like you said gotta be very careful moving with heavy weight on a little tractor. I love my 2210. Great little helper.

A similar tip i do when im loading a bigger bucket on a bigger tractor, is if i cant lift it higher i tip forward ever so slightly then crowd it back quickly and lift and the same time, the momentum of it curling back will allow you to lift higher. Do that a few times and you can get high enough to tip into a trailer or something, although it can get a bit sketchy when up that high!

Great video! Good reminder of what the rating really means and the real world application of the rating. I have 42" forks that I use to move industrial 48x 40 wire baskets of firewood. I really feel lift capacity decline with the use of forks, since my lift is so far off the pin. I think the forks weigh 70 lbs each. That's -140 lbs off the working load, from the get go!

Tim, Thanks for the videos. It cleared up all my questions about the lift capacity. I have 5X6 round bales that I need to move around to the pasture and it's only 300 feet away. They weigh around 1200 lbs. I am thinking about getting a quick attach spear and use. Your trick about curl and lift was genius. Do you think I should be able to move them going very slow as I only need to lift them a bit off the ground to move. Thanks

That’s a great example of lift capacity’s and how different they are it is very true that it is hard on that front axle especially when moving in 4wd

The Bucket weight is NOT figured into the JD "PIN" spec for capacity. BW14144 ( your 49 inch bucket) is 154 Lbs. If you back up over a 2X4 with the engine at rated and lift lever pulled, you can also gain some clerance. Great Video!

My Ford 80 , 8 hp Single cylinder kohler engine, with homemade loader will lift over 1100 pounds with bucket level at 6 feet high. Like you said though , don't go far or at all If you don't have to. But that's the difference 40 plus years make. The backhoe I made for it is bucket flat at 8 feet deep , dumps at 8 feet high, and swivels 180 degrees. Loader is over ten years old and backhoe is over 6 years old and both have been used quite extensively. From putting my 800 pound safe in my house to building my son a motocross track. I have taken it to many antique tractor shows and demonstrated it often .

I had the front tires on my 1025R filled. I’m glad I did. It adds a significant amount of weight to the front which makes the tractor handle better with the backhoe on and even when I’m running around with only the mower deck mowing the yard. No squatting tires either.

Hi Tim, I saw your video at Messick's and have been watching some of your other videos, good stuff. 1025R's are awesome tractors, I owned for several years and did a lot of work with it. I only got rid of it because I wanted to upgrade to a cab tractor (factory cab with A/C), so I went to a B2650 cab like the one you looked at. In your search for a larger tractor I recommend going with a cab, you won't regret it. It will take me awhile to catch up on all your videos, they seem very informative. Oh, and I subscribed.

Excellent demo. I have a 3046 rated at 1600 pounds. Of course in real world working applications it doesn’t. And it gets sketchy moving higher weights especially on my construction site as nothing is level. I just do what you said, like BBQ, low and slow.

It's really quite amazing what these "little things" can do ... However, as you already mentioned it's an intense amount of stress to the components involved (front axle, loader, bucket, ...) so I completely agree it should be done as an exception. However, one thing I want to mention : At least on the 2R the pressure relief valve is (I guess just a single one here for cost reasons) between the pump and the SCV (selective control valve), as it appears from seeing your "trick" to increase lift capacity it's the same on the 1R. Below the line it means that the parts are protected by the pressure relief valve as long as it's directly pressurized. If you roll the bucket down to lift the loader arms the pressure in the arm lift cylinders drops below the relief value and the loader arm is being raised. If you close the SCV by putting it back to the middle position for that function it just seals (actually it's not really a 100%, all those control valves will have a little internal leakage) the pressure between the valve and the cylinder and by curling back the bucket it will raise above the limit value. Thus it put's more stress to any component involved than planned by the manufacturer ... The front axle could fail by breaking, tires, hoses, control valve, ... So even if there is still some "extra capacity" in all components be careful not to harm yourself or anyone else if you work at or beyond the designed limits of the machine. Note : The increase in pressure between low and high engine RPM is because of the higher flow created by the (gear) pump combined with the viscosity of the used fluid. In other words, with low viscosity oil/cold oil you might see higher pressure compared to warm/high viscosity oil. Downside of forced high flow is cavitation and therefore damage to the components. Basically the same as if you would change the relief pressure on the pressure relief valve (they are adjustable and it's just turning a screw/nut - so be sure you DON'T do it) ... Pressure in the end is a side effect on restricted flow, that's why there is a need of a protection against over pressure (aka presusre relief valve), especially on gear pumps as the pressure would raise to a point where the pump destroys itself (if the engine is not stalled before). Extra Info (text already gets way too long ... :) ) : For example on way more expensive machines, I own a little Takeuchi TB016, the pressure relief valve is between the cylinder and the valve, so the mentioned "trick" does not really work (actually it does a bit but within limits). To be precise there are two pressure relief valves, one between the pump and the control valve(s) and one for critical hydraulic circuits (like the boom cylinder) between the actuator and the valve. The valve protecting the actuator has a slightly higher relief value than the one for the pump. So it's a bit working but not really far as the boom will be automatically lowered if you get to a critical load situation. For larger equipment and different brands it might be different, actually it is at least if it's legal (at least here in Germany) for lifting as it has a self locking and leakage free valve on the critical cylinders that will be automatically unlocked if you pressurize it. You can really see those lock valves from the outside as they are on the cylinders, same on hydraulic 3 point hitch top links. If the hoses attach directly to the cylinders hydraulic ports -> no lock valve, if they attach to some block on the cylinder from where tubes lead to the cylinders port you'll have those locking valves.

Very interesting video. I think I've lifted around 1000lbs with mine too. I'd really like to see you do the same test but with the pallet forks. I think that would be more of what you might see in the real world, pallets of stuff. Like bricks, or masonry blocks

Good info Tim. I have maxed my 1025r out on several occasions with pallets of flat rock. Sometimes you have to be creative. Stay safe and warm out there.

@ 9:27 Maybe the "magical 59 inch rating" has to do with trailer height, for unloading a tractor trailer combo that delivers goods to your site? We're watching your video to help us figure out how much freight we can unload from a trailer, as we will be hopefully receiving delivery here, at our home, as opposed to dock pickup at the freight company.

I know firsthand that I can lift a 280 pound 42" fork set and a 960 pound generator just a few inches off the ground, but enough to move it. It involves some trickery, and the bulk of the weight is near the hinge point, but my 1025r does it. Not sure if the 5-gallons of diesel and two batteries are included in the generator specs, but they are also adding to the weight.

perfect timing. just getting ready tomorrow to fill my tires w/ air and was going to put 22psi in the front. didn't even think about needing more with the loader till I saw this video. And so, thank you ! Now my question is...does the back tires need more as well? think the book says 20psi for those (turf tires).

Is it an illusion or not that the new Johnny doesn’t shake as much, or at all, like old Johnny did when turning him off. Christie, Tim’s math is way off. I don’t believe there was more than 1250 lbs in the loader with you sitting there.

Tim, I have a 2013 1025R with an H120 loader and I notice that when the bucket has a load, it leaks down when I want to tilt back before actually starts tilting back. I have been told that a re-generative valve will solve this issue. Your thoughts on the matter. and since you have a newer model, did they address the issue. fill the bucket or forks with weight on it. Then try to tilt up slowly, mine actually goes down until I apply more hydraulic pressure.

Hi Tim Great video. I have a 1025R (2014, a twin of old Johnny 240 hrs) with a 120H FEL I've often wondered what its actual capabilities were. I don't know if there are a great deal of capability difference between the 120R and the 120H but I'm impressed. .

Thanks for another great video Tim. John Deere rates their lift capacity with a pin on bucket. The Quick Change mechanism adds a few pounds so the spec'd values would be lower with it. I agree with you that you shouldn't push these tractors to their limits. I'm glad that mine can't lift heavy weights to the maximum. Very easy to have it fall over on soft or irregular ground. I believe I saw a KZfaq video where a gentleman did just that.

Ive helped pick up a corner of a car with my JD 520 and 45w loader. At a demo derby a car slipped of its decking boards on a trl. I picked while a few guys rocked the car while another tried to get a board under the tire. When i was 16 the nieghbor was building there house and the truss delivery semi truck got stuck while unloading. The neighbor had used his oliver super 60? or something like ( looks like a ford 800 series) that he said could pull a 3 bottom plow to help the semi in a little bit but broke a previous repaired drawbar mount. I rode my bike and got dad and he came over with the 520 and she dug down a ft and dad repositioned and pulled again and dug about a ft again and got the trk moving again. Yes a down slope yes the trk was helping but the 520 last time i had her on the pony brake i was doing 25-33 hp with and unknown torque rating with the tractor wieghing 6000 lbs ish freed a 40000 lb trk yet the all girl doesnt like taking my flatbed on the road. I hauled a shed and a shelter and 3 bottom plow on my trl. The trl and tractor with or without the plow wieght 13000 (dont remember if had plow on trl for trip when i scaled it all) the tractor slowed down to half speed pulling the worst hill on my trip. You can push your limits but to what extend

BamaGreen1025r my 1025 has just hit the 50 hr. mark, and I am loving it...The little Tractor has always went ,above and beyond, what i expected when I bought it.I really thought it was maybe a glorified lawnmower...lol, I was badly fooled, Moving Dirt, brush hogging, sewer lines, drainage ditches..cleaning land that hadn't been touched in 40 years...It has done more than I ever expected. Of course, with the help TTWT..love what y'all do...great videos, that explains the in's and out's of everyday use ... but i'm still wondering if some kind of cooking spray would help this Alabama Red Clay, slide out of a back hoe bucket.....no where but Bama...."Roll Tide".....

Tim, I know these Yanmar engines are well built, but as with all engines, if it is mine, I idle them for a minimum of 5 seconds or so after running at full throttle, even if you only run it at full throttle for 15 seconds. Longer idle time is recommended when working the engine hard. It is a question of normalizing internal temperatures. FYI, I have been a professional gas & diesel mechanic for 50 years and I own a 1026R.

I have a 200cx loader with bucket forks I've left ed a pellet filled with 700lbs of dirt is lt safe?
