We brought the Polaris RZR XP Turbo S and the Can-Am Maverick X3 X RC to southern California test these new 72-inch sport UTVs in the desert. We upgraded the tires on the X3 to match those on the Turbo S (32-inch ITP Coyote).

I put about 15 miles on the Turbo S in the sand. Handling wise, it felt vague, lack of direction, and didn’t want to hold a line. I attribute a component of that to set up (15 psi on desert tires). The chop and whoops, felt comfortable to run through, but I felt like it didn’t have directional stability. Again, I think this goes back to setup. That being said, I braced for multiple hits that just didn’t happen. The suspension is so amazing at soaking it’s incredible. I ride a YXZ currently. The Yamaha is so anchored. Holds its line much better/differently. Not that all that’s out of the way. I loved the S. So versatile. So tough. And let me tell you, it’s power delivery is absolutely, 100% flawless...Good god is it’s motor smooth and potent. The S gathers momentum unlike any other machine I’ve ridden. Multiple times during the ride I climbed very steep and long/soft dunes, with absolute ease, accelerating the whole way up. The car wowed the heck out of me. I’m literally weighing buying one, right now. Game changer...The only critical things I have to say, I believe can be fixed via setup to accommodate the conditions you’re in with relative ease. Loved it.

Just pulled the trigger on a X RC. Have not received it yet. Couple questions....Some complaints about the lack of visibility over the hood. At the end of the day is that really that big an issue? Running the 32s, any concern about added torque on drivetrain? Is there really that big an advantage to the 32s? Suggestion on an aftermarket steering wheel hub to bring wheel closer to driver? The dynamix...do you see most riders switching between the various ride modes or will guys just set it and forget it? Low speed torque for crawling. One torquier than the other? Thanks for doing these videos guys. As you know test driving this stuff in real world riding situations can be difficult. I find these videos helpful. Not sure where you're based out of but if you're ever out in the Teton Valley area, east Idaho or Western Wyoming I'd love to tag along on a ride.

Overall this was an awesome review!! It was fairly hard to hear any talking, but the terrain you guys picked was gnarly and rugged, not a lot of reviews doing this so huge props there! And definitely agree these machines are probably the closest ever compared. But I think you glossed over a few things to get to a tie, and if I was spending money of this magnitude it matters. What I saw was a stock Turbo S ($27,499 MSRP) ties with a modified XRC ($28,999 MSRP + ~6,500 accessories = $~36,499), and the XRC even still is not set up from the factory to run the 32's like the Turbo S is specifically designed to; the XRC would have heavy steering, a chassis and drive set up not proportionally reinforced, improper gearing/engine cal, and still no active suspension. Seems like a lot of money to spend beyond MSRP for a sub-optimized machine. Even the aftermarket No Limit control arms on the XRC are only 90 wall, where as the Turbo S stock arms are 120 wall thick. I'd rather buy the Turbo S and spend another ~$6,500 on customizing a sick ride (or just save the money), instead of trying to part together a machine to run 32"s.

The dynamix and ride command look awesome and are probably a lot of fun to mess with. I really like the competition in the market and I am excited to see where these companies go from here especially considering the new wildcat and it's different approach in design. As an x3 owner I would hope the rzr is the better machine since the guys at Polaris have had 2 years to develop an answer to the x3. By the way I showed this video to my Polaris buddies and they got a kick out of the fire extinguisher strapped to the turbo s "always the first mod on a rzr"

I think it's fair to say, even this early on, that Polaris has built a better machine. We all like the way the Mavericks look and some like the "immersive" feeling. But the Polaris now has better (more versatile) suspension, better tires, better integrated technology, better 4 wheel drive, similar engine performance etc. Half of us are just big kids that want whatever one looks coolest to us... no point in splitting hairs. Thanks for the review.

Ryan Sawyer polaris bought more stuff from other companies to make their ride and handling better than before but still not as good as the x3, you can't argue with that much travel, wheelbase and Can ams superior engineering, just watching them side by side in the rough stuff it's a hands down can am win in that category

Michael Fantin largely from use case they are seen as a bit different, the XRC was built specifically to rock crawl, like how the XMR is built specifically to mud. So it has a bunch of OEM accessories like winch, 30" maxxis liberty wheels, armor, lower doors, Smart Lok, etc. where as the X3 X RS has a more comparable offering as the Turbo S (you could imagine that Turbo S could come in special editions similarly at some point) but the real problem is that UTV GUIDE then went and spent ~$7,000 on additional aftermarket accessories on the XRC to make the review even more staggered, but it's awesome that a completely bone stock Turbo S ($27,499 MSRP) tied a machine that all in costed ~$,36,499!
@UTVGuide101
@UTVGuide101 6 жыл бұрын
SCHEND0 We wanted to take the tires out of the equation so we added the tires to the RC. Other accessories do not affect performance but obviously do cost some $$$. As far as the RC being specifically designed for rock crawling, that just isn’t true. It does everything the RS does, but also has a front differential that has locking capabilities. It also has a “Trail” setting that is just like the RS. Oh and the RC has a winch. Big deal.
@eschenn1
@eschenn1 6 жыл бұрын
UTV Guide In you article online you literally stated that you had two stock X3 X RC machines onsite in addition to the modded one you actually used (you made a point to say you had 3), yet for a comparison review of OEM vehicles you decided to not use a stock vehicle and instead take away some one the main comparison points out of the equation.. do you hear that? In a video designed to compare vehicles you are taking away multiple points OF COMPARISON, doesn't make sense. The fact that 32s come stock on the Polaris is a big deal, it means anyone who buys it doesn't have to go buy 32s now, and some people don't always have money for extra tires let alone ~$7,000 worth of aftermarket parts. It's disappointing to see a "comparison" like that. Heck I mean, why not just remove every single possible variable by literally building the cars the exact same, make them each identical what a review that would be...
@kurtlucas7925
@kurtlucas7925 6 жыл бұрын
SCHEND0 agreed... So not what I was wanting to see for a comparison video. If the xrc tires from the factory suck then they should have ran them. They could have said “we added seats and a tune to the rzr to make sure it was as comfortable and same power as the X3” lol. Btw fire the audio guy... nice video editing but damn learn how to edit the audio side.

Im no expert but it seems to me the guy in the razor was getting shaken around considerbly more compared to the can-am . Razor ride looked brutal and not to mention the ass of the vehicle kicked up in the air quite a bit more, didn't like that either but then again that's always been the case with Polaris utv's of any model.

SVTsupercharged regardless of OEM you definitely need a high mount intake/snorkel to go in deep water or mud. Currently RZR has an xp 1000 mudder and can am has one on the 172 x3 and one on the 120.

Diesel Lover I’m talking about going through shallow mud, a few feet. The stock Polaris does it with ease because of the low torque. The Can Am needs large aftermarket mud tires just to get through simple mud holes you fool. Also the Polaris is clutched far better than the Can Am.

Sorry about that. We didn't have a great setup for windy conditions. We know that it is an issue, but most can hear fine with volume up.

UTV Guide that's understandable. I'll try watching it again when I'm in a quieter environment. It's a little noisier at work then home.

Dumping the "Sad-Am" Tired of the poor quality roll pin issue.... power, and steering under load very poor. Cannot add bigger tires and steer. lol.... all come with welfare tires.... Big horn 2.0.... Heads up new buyers 2 ply on the side wall... stock tires are for lawn mowers.... and the sight picture or veiw from the seat.... like sitting in a 240z.. 1976.... { SAD-AM} coined it here first!!!! Funny fact I ran Bombie stuff for 25 years..... kept up the fight, told everyone Bombie will do another game changer like the REV chassis but wow.... Sad-Ams in the rear view, both sled and rzr lol...Polaris all day!!!!
