I’ve seen people criticize you guys for critiquing a game’s technical performance….. it’s like being mad at water for being wet.

Literally every other games media outlet is ignoring tech flaws, I'm glad there's one to turn to to see if a game is running or not.

Why would anyone come to digital foundry of all channels and not expect to see them criticize the technology being used?

They all gonna look at a puddle in real life and said, hhhmmm screen space reflections.

DF is the one channel that critiques performance and I’m fine with that. We need one channel with that focus. i can go to a million other channels to focus on the game itself. I come here to see if it the game runs well.

Coming from Console. PC & DF helped me understand what these "graphical issues" were. Back in my Console days, I would play a game I know now as 30fps, but would dip to say 20fps abruptly. I thought that was part of the game in some situations. 🤣Now I know those were "technical issues" and not planned events. 😂PC introduced me to MicroStutters, Inconsistent Frame Pacing & Traversal Stutters. So, I agree with John and Rich. Then I learned about Game Engines and Optimizations helps a TON. I felt the exact same way as Alex on Dead Space. I like to add that I hate it when you buy and don't know about all the little tricks needed to get a game to work. Like Battlefield games have a thing with needing to delete old cache files to get into a server faster or at all. Or a game where you need to edit this .doc file for whatever reason.

Im like Alex. Ive been playing alot of games on PC thats like 10-15 yo thwt i never got a chance to play. Just recently Ive played Singularity and Call of Juarez Gunslinger. Also just purchased a 3rd Person cover game like Gears called Invasion that I never heard of and played.

I mean a technically flawed game is very different from a game that was limited in scope due to having a small budget. Dunno why some confuse the two. A techically flawed game can ruin the experience for a player. By being an unpolished game that runs with too many issues that could've been solved with a few more months of developement. And you feel like it was rushed through the door. But a game that uses simple graphics or had a small budget can also have technical issues. But that has nothing to do with its use of simple graphics or effects. And probably more with having a small budget that limited how much time the game had in the oven.

Not sure I agree on Dragons Dogma 2 on PS5 with updates. Seems to run better than before and it's an amazing game.

Having read Rich's reviews in Mean Machines Sega when I was a teen in the Early 90's I believe that he could easily bypass a game's flaws and enjoy it today like I could. But the young gamers like John seen to be incredibly fussy and precise about what games they like. The younger generation today seem to be very hard to please. I can happily play a PC game in VGA at 30fps. I don't think John or Alex can handle that.

HW: Age of Calamity ran pretty damn bad but I still greatly enjoyed it.

I really had to put effort into finishing Jedi Survivor. Because I really liked the story, levels combat... But the constant dips and crashes really made it hard for me. Now I'm grinding through Hogwart's Legacy.

Fallout New Vegas is popular and that is one of the buggiest fallout games. So yeah people ignore issues with games all the time.

Since I learned programing in college, games lost a lot of magic for me. Am I alone in this?

I think everyone is just way to fussy these days about technical imperfections. Get over it and just play the damn game. The problem is many of the games they focus on are big budget AAA shovelware games that don't have much compelling gameplay to hold your attention in the first place.

that dead space stutter issue was way overblown and hurt the game. i played the game on a 4-5 year harddrive with a 2060 super and never had severe stutters.

It is extremely hard to enjoy a game that has shader compillation stutters, traversal stutters, bad frame pacing, and frame drops. Jedi Survivor I'm looking at you

Well DF thinks 900p and 30fps is acceptable in 2024 that sets the bar very low.

If the game is woke DF won’t criticise it n also if it’s Lden ring they won’t talk about it’s garbage performace n how crap it runs while looking like turd
