This is a well structured, well thought out review video. I think I'll stick with my homemade wet palette, but if I needed one I could carry around this gives me plenty of information to work with. That terminator you were painting looks real good!

Awesome review! I actually ordered one of these while waiting for my Redgrass Studio V2 Kickstarter to arrive. Though a little disappointed with some of the refinement, I'm still pretty excited to receive it. It'll definitely be an upgrade to my original grungy Redgrass!

Cheers Dann, I have the Studio V2 on order too 🤷‍♂️.. June though now, I really like this palette and it’s got some excellent ideas on it, doesn’t quite match the RGG quality though. Are you US based?

As a fellow product snob (gently caresses his barely used Tamiya tools) I guess I'll stick with my Redgrass V1. The copper tape is a brilliant Idea though, will buy some ASAP!

Yeh, that is genius, this pallette is chock full of amazing ideas, they just aren’t as well executed as RGG. I have the V2 review on the way but the TLDR is if you have a v1 stick with that one.

Nice detailed video as always! On thing you mentioned about shipping. Having talked with Kit during the KS I learned that Game Envy was setting up an a EU hub for their products (it won't have everything they produce, but most, as I understod it). The hub wasn't up when the KS ran, but it should be up and running this month or next. I honestly don't know how that will affect shipping per se, but for EU customers, it removes VAT concerns and the long delivery times. Also, I have no clue if this helps with UK customers or not. But, thought it worth mentioning. (: I did back this product (and the Redgrass one too^^) and while I haven't been using it much yet, the parts I was most interested in was the air valve on top and the side lockings (no rubber band). The phone stand, the compartment on top weren't really that interesting, as I always paint at home. And I do agree, the air valve works much better then I hoped it would and the snap locks are so easy to use, basically removing any chance of tilting the palette when opening it and having paints run all over the paper. When compared to my original RGG painter size palette, the plastic feels a little bendier (actual word? :D ) and it's textured, not smooth. That said, it's nothing I'd have really noticed, unless I actively compared the two. Regarding cost (comparing KS prices) the Exemplar cost $30 (~27€) + shipping and the comparable RGG Painter V2 KS pack costs €37 + shipping. With the RGG one being ~10€ more expensive, it ends up costing about the same once shipping is paid at the time of the KS. I do look forward to trying out the new improved and re'usable RGG papers. //tl:dr// Great video as always and I think it's a solid product which improves upon my current RGG one. (: Shipping for EU/UK will be a concern until the Game Envy hub is up and running.

Yeh, I agree with most of what you say here, I did reach out to GE and when I hear back ref UK/EU suppliers I will update the comments sections. I still think my main go to will be my RGG studio as I really enjoy using it but honestly they perform very similarly. Cheers for the detailed comment, sure folks will find it useful and I really appreciate the time spent

I live in Canada, and shipping on the Exemplar winds up putting it into a similar price range as Red Grass Games' Studio XL v2... Which makes it even tougher, because I do kind of want more Wizard Racks from Game Envy as well as their painting handle, but I also really do want another RGG Studio XL v2 with the glass insert since I've quickly realized that for using oils it doesn't take me long to wind up using a good portion of a 9x12" paper palette pad...

Ahh, that’s a bit rough, I know game envy were working on better distribution. I have a review of the new RGG palette upcoming, but if you need more space grab a glass chopping board from a kitchen shop, does the same job

Hi! Fellow UK user here. I only got it maybe two weeks ago, my gf pledged on the Kickstarter. So far in my limited time using it I've liked it, but I have no prior experience with wet palettes. I'm hoping this can give me a bit more help with thinning down paints to a better highlighting consistency, I just can't seem to nail it with a dry palette. I did find it leaked a little when I had it on it's side for about ten minutes; I thought I had it properly closed but I can't be sure. Next time I test, I'm going to try opening the vent to equalise the pressure and then close it again. My biggest concern is getting refills of the paper and blotting pad here in the UK, more than the palette itself. I've reached out to Game Envy on Twitter about UK suppliers, but I think they're still working though fulfilling and sending out pledges, so I'm happy to wait a bit for a response.

Hi, yup the palette is good, in wouldn’t worry too much about buying spares, I still haven’t gone through a pack of 50 Redgrass games ones that I have had for over 2 years. But Kit from Game Envy is working on a stockist for the UK so that will come in time I am sure.
