I would say Modern Greek is more intelligible with Classical and Koine Greek (pronunciation differences aside) than Italian with Latin. That is saying a lot about the consistency of the language through the centuries.

Of course. Classical Latin and modern Italian are not mutually intelligible.

Τί κρίμα είναι ότι οι δάσκαλοι στην Ελλάδα δεν διδάσκονται τα Αρχαία Ελληνικά δια την ομιλία, χωρίς τόση γραμματική.

Salve Magistra! Latine didici et puto linguam colloquio discere meliorem esse! I have a question: is less hard to learn ancient greek for someone who studied latin? Both of them are sinthetic languages and have common features like declension, participles, syntax is quite similar .
