When you were making the mistake with the dowels I thought, Oh this is some kind of a new joinery. I have always told myself if you can fix your own mistakes it is a sign of a good woodworker.

Hi Matt, the best way to improve a piece of Ikea furniture. The quality of Ikea furniture is poor for the price of it. but now you have improved it and made it usable a good fix . As always a great video Take care

IR-ON, found a dusty one in the garage when edge banding the other day. I was wondering if you could have removed the honey comb core and reused the white top laminated to a lump of ply? Just a thought mainly because conti board is a ridiculously price product

The furniture board I used was pretty cheap. You probably could re use it but might have to spend a while removing glue

@@Badgerworkshop fair point Matt re glue. My pet hate material, conti. I would rather use oil soaked wet pallet wood. Everyone has there quirks this is mine 🙈

I discovered how these tabletops were constructed when I slammed down my beer glass for dramatic effect and made a nice round hole in the the top - the kids thought this was hilarious, but Mrs C rather less so ! 😬😉😂

It would be really nice if you used that wood to make a full, glued, top. With some stain. Sure, you would need more wood, but you could afford it with the money spent on the chipboard. Cheers!

Honestly I think those cardboard things are pretty cool. They use a LOT less material and they do the job. I'm not sure I really prefer chipboard over them.

@@WonkyStud For some things I think they make more sense than chipboard, mdf or even plywood. If people want to buy and throw things away a few years later when they move or they want to redecorate, it might as well be cardboard and empty space. So much material/trees/glues/resins/etc saved. Also, as much as people love ragging on Ikea, they do some pretty cool things like sending you free hardware (screws etc) if you lost it in a move. My brother bought a desk, lost all the specific screws in a move, and they sent us everything for free. Without all that specific hardware the desk would have been useless, now it's my desk.
