This is the very dilemma I’m having right now is Rel is closing out the 1205 v1s at $449.99 each and was thinking of getting 4 like you have. But you and Nemo both really like the newer versions.

@jglaserbot At the price, you can get the older model now,they are an absolute steal. The new model is an improvement, but you can't ignore the bargain price of the old model. You will be knocked out with four of the old models.

You replaced 4 HT1205 MKi with 2 MKII’s? How did that go with output? I have a pair of MKi’s now and contemplating getting the 1510 and sticking with the 12 MKI’s to have 3 total. Though I can get 2 1205 MKII’s for the price of a single 1510, though I am not sure I will notice much of a difference. My room is 20x15

Great video and so true. I've owned RELs since the Stadium III. They have been so far ahead of anything I've heard anything that comes close compared to competition during their production and changes. I still have the Stadium III in Cherry and am looking for a match for one of my systems. They always make everything sound better and not just bass and no thumper but visceral.

However the gloss finish is daft for people with projection systems and light controlled rooms as it's reflective properties are quite distracting and many will end up covering the gloss with something less reflective. Great video! Thanks! As always, very informative. As I asked you before, I will do it again with this sub. :-) I'm still evaluating the different options to buy a pair and I think Rythmik's closer competitors for the HT1205 MkII could be the L12 at around $650 and the F12-400 at around $880. Besides their different specs and connection options, how would you describe the differences in SQ between the HT1205 MkII and these Rythimic subs? I'm not sure if you have tried the F12-400, but maybe you can share with us the differences with the L12. Thank you!!!
@NemoPropaganda

it's been a long time now since I've heard the L12, I believe the two would be fairly competative with eachother in terms of SQ. As far as the F12-400 I have not heard it, all i can tell you is my F12SE is an upgrade compared to the 1205 MK2.

@NemoPropaganda

that happened to me one time with my JL D110 and it turned out to be a bad RCA cable so definately rule out the possibility of a cable or the amp being the issue, after that you gotta contact REL or the dealer for service if it really is the sub.

I'm looking at adding two subs to my system with Von Schweikert VR4 jr's. Mostly music but movies too. Am looking at SVS SB3000's or REL HT1205 MKII. Which would you recommend?
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda Жыл бұрын
the SB3000 has a more aggressive & heavy tone to it plus that extra inch means it can play louder which makes it killer for movies while the 1205 MK2 has a lighter tone, quicker transients, and better handeling of delicate passages. Both are loved by many but personally I don't like my bass to be too heavy so I prefer the 1205 MK2 however there certainly are those that feel bass should be heavy & dominant and those people may prefer the SB3000.

I don't know I'm pretty busy rn but the 1003 v2 and 1205 v2 are damn near identical, only difference is what comes with size, slightly smaller sense of scale, slightly less extension, and less output for the 1003 MK2, as far as SQ goes both are fantastic.

Hey bro that is a very hard question to answer, dual 1205 MKII will have more even bass in the room and sound amazing but a single 1510 will have a much stronger bottom end and a bigger & fuller sense of scale. Both are very capable of awesome music & movie experience it just depends on if you value extension (1510) versus even bass in the room (dual 1205 MKII).

The dual RSL subs will play louder than the single HT1205 MKII but the single HT1205 MKII will have better bass fidelity overall. This is a simple quantity vs quality decision. The RSL has great bass fidelity for its price category but the bass fidelity of the HT1205 MK2 is superior.

Great video. I have a 1205 that I bought after watching your original video a while ago and use it in my living room for home theater. Now thinking about buying another one (or a mk2) and swapping them in for 2 SB1000 Pros that I use in my 2 channel setup. The SVS will get moved to living room. Do you think this will be a worthwhile upgrade for my 2-channel music system? And what cables do you recommend for a 40’ cable run from preamp to subwoofer? I use high level speaker connection to the SVS subs today but would need to go low level RCA for the RELs. Thanks for all you do!
@NemoPropaganda

the svs sb1000 pro is my favorite svs subwoofer and I think its really fantastic. The 1205 has a slightly larger cabinet and is a little quicker with its transient resposne so it should sound cleaner in the music system. As far as cable runs for 40+ft I wouldn't really know as 6ft is the longest I use. I'd ask in the free discord, there are a few guys in there that have to have longer cable runs.

Mr. Nemo, I know you compared the Rel to the Rythmik F12, but how does it fare against the L12? The Rel is on sale now for close to the cost of the L12, which I currently own. I mainly use it for music and am looking for something that is nimble and detailed, thanks
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda 9 ай бұрын
I like both subs a lot but I do not feel the 1205 MK2 is an upgrade over the L12 or vice versa, they do sound a little different with the L12 sounding warmer while the 1205 MK2 sounds more dry by direct comparison but they both produce high quality bass and the L12 actually has a bit more extension in it. This is a situation where going manufacturer direct really does save you a few dollars.

Can you stack these subs? Also I’m trying to decide on either 2 of the REL 1205 mkII, one of RELs 1510 predator II, or one KEF KF92. It’s for a system that’s 50/50 on music and home theater. My budget is around $2000, what sub would you recommend?
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda 9 ай бұрын
You can stack the 1510 yes but not the 1205. As far as the KEF vs the 1510 here is a comparison from my Discord: The KF92 is always going to come down to this: if it's output is sufficient for the room it's hard to find a better theater sub regardless of the size. If the output is not sufficient then generally speaking nearly anything larger will be preferable. The 1510 is substantially larger and should have considerably more headroom at all frequencies as well as a larger sense of scale. As far as musical performance I'm actually going to give a slight edge to the REL 1510 as it's leading edges are a little more well defined while the KF92 has more of a softness to its leading edges. Lastly the 1510 has a bit of a heavier tone to it while the KF92 has a slightly lighter tone by direct comparison. If KF92 is between SPL & SQ the 1510 is just a hair over towards the SPL side only due to it's heavier presentation. All other aspects of the 1510 are very SQ. Worth considering is the KF92 employs active DSP meaning as output increases frequency roll off becomes more aggressive while the REL 1510 will be more consistent at higher volumes. Both subs perform well at lower volumes so you certainly can shove a 1510 in a smaller room or a larger room where as KF92 is really for lower volumes or smaller rooms. Hope this helps.

The 1205 MK1 takes an edge with better speed/fidelity and the RSL will play louder and have more authority down low. Both are really great options at their current prices. I think you will be happy with either one give each is priced very well for what it brings to the table. Personally I'd take the 1205 MK1 because I don't need the output of the RSL and would rather have a bit better transient response of the seaeld sub.

Great review! I have two RSL Speedwoofer 10s and am thinking about test driving two of the RELs. I like the Speedwoofers quite a bit, but am wondering if the difference in quality will be worth the extra bucks. I understand that there is no substitute for personal experience, but I'm pretty sure you have an opinion on this. My media consumption is 75% movies (uncompressed on disc) and 25% music (mp3s). I have three Magnat Cinema Ultra 100-THX for my LCR, which I love, but they only play down to 80Hz. So, a great subwoofer is important. Thanks!

the 1205 mk2 is gonna give you quicker transients and more nuance detail in the bass region, it's up to you if that's worth the trade off & higher price. The RSL 10s being vented will have more force down low and more raw output.

How are people setting the crossover on the rel? On the reciever or the rel? Rel just released a post saying set.amp to 200 htz and set the crossover on the rel. If your amp can only set 80 100 120 150 and 200 htz would it be best to set 200 htz om the amp and use the rel crossover. I know denon and other amps have more crossover settings on the amp so what is best?

experiment and find out but unless you have a fairly high end AVR the crossover in the REL is most likely better so set your AVR crossover to off or as high as possible then dial in the sub from the plate amps crossover just like REL says.

H Nemo, I have a question for you that is a bit off the subject of your video. I am experiencing severe listening fatigue after about an hour of listening in 2 channels. The problem is in the mid-high & high registers. Vocals sound abrasive & 'in my face' This confounds me because I'm using a fine PrimaLuna Integrated Tube amp. My Marantz pre/pro acts as the first preamp that feeds a signal to the Tube amp. I had a friend over & he said the higher frequencies "sounded tinny" Any ideas about what may be causing the harshness in the higher frequency range once the Marantz preamp is set any higher than 60 dB? Being a bit of an audio snob, I believe the mass produced Marantz pre/pro may be the culprit...or perhaps my Totem Accoustic Tribe Tower Speakers are just too lively & forward for. my taste now that I'm in my 60's...perhaps I need warmer sounding set of speakers. IDK Thanks, David

Hard to say, I have not used totem speakers myself, I would for sure take the marantz out of the chain to rule that out.

Thanks for your quick reply. Yeah, I already decided to use the Marantz for 9.2 surround sound movie nights. I purchased some kick ass gear for my new solid state2 chanel system. I purchased a new Parasound Halo P6 Preamp/DAC, a used classic Parasound. a23 ( John Curl Designed) power amplifier & a nice used,long pair of Transparent Audio BiWire cables. The new gear shipped today. Once my new-to-me is set up...I hope to ferret out what part of my other components are causing the shrill sound in the mid-high & high frequencie.

Nemo, I certainly certainly certainly don't want 'to get ahead of my skies' but if it turns out that my Totem speakers are too bright, forward for my taste, can you recommend a few tower speakers that are on the warm side of neutral. I've gotten that question a lot lately, that's a tough question. So I love the MK1 a lot and $599 is a really good price. I'd say it comes down to how much you value that extra $250 and what you think about the aesthetics of the MK1 vs MK2. Either one is really good for its respective price.

Sell the PB 1000 pro and get 2 Rels. That’s if you want the best sounding bass for the money you are spending. Ok it does not go as low as PB1000 but think about this 20hz and above in movies is about 85% and below 20hz is about roughly 15%. My advise to all the people that wants to buy subwoofers that go low below 19hz is that unless its super expensive high end subwoofer it will sound boomy and muddy. That is the trade off when you buy a sub that is budget friendly and goes low. Plus I hate ported subs, way too muddy and slow.

A little off topic. I play 80% music/20%movies with SVS SB3000. Sit in sweet spot/no other listeners in my Man Cave. I have all the power I need and actually have to turn it down. For the purpose of SQ only is there any advantage of going duals?
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda Жыл бұрын
yes, with duals the bass will be more even but its something you only notice when you go back to a single sub so its one of those things where I'd say if you're happy with the single sub keep it that way. Once you open the door to duals you'll initially think it's not that big of a difference until you turn one off and then you wonder how you lived with a single sub for so long. These days I'm airing on the side of "save your money, we're heading into a recession" on a lot of my advice. You have 1 sub, you're happy, no need to open the door of dual subs right now ya know :)
@WWeiss-nv5vz
@WWeiss-nv5vz Жыл бұрын
@@NemoPropaganda Thanks, actually duals really don't fit in my space. Have you ever tried running a sub near field? I talked to a head tech guy at JL and he said a sub used coffee table distance solves the problem of room interaction and has physical body shaking feel with a smaller sub.
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda Жыл бұрын
@@WWeiss-nv5vz yes, my KC62 in my living room is right behind my couch so about 4ft away from me no matter which spot I sit in. I also tested the REL T5X pair flanking my listening chair. I encourage everyone to experiment with such placement as it can really sound great in certain rooms and it's free to test, you might need to order a long cable to try out some locations but a 25ft rca can be found on Amazon for very cheap or you can use something like the REL HT Air. That's what I use in my living room.
@WWeiss-nv5vz
@WWeiss-nv5vz Жыл бұрын
@@NemoPropaganda Maybe you should stress this more on your channel? Room treatments for bass/room modes not a consideration/sub crawl for best sub position not necessary. For music only a near field 10" or smaller sub is more than enough output and I believe there would be no need for duals if set up is for one listener in the sweet spot. What benefit if any did you get from a pair of T5X at such close distance? Not sure if these benefits also apply to home theatre applications?
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda Жыл бұрын
@@WWeiss-nv5vz well, nobody "needs" dual subs :). Running duals will generally sound better though. It's easy to test if you currently have a single sub put it on the opposite side of the room and you'll be shocked how different it sounds and how obviously bass is missing from where it normally comes from. The brain starts to ignore the localization but its still there with a single sub, we just get used to it. Dual subs fix that. But not everyone can have dual subs due the cost or room itself. As far as nearfield sub placement I just did it for fun to see if it would work, I only listened to a few songs and then put the subs back on the main wall except upstairs where my KC62 sits behind the couch but that's a casual TV setup.

The emotiva RS13 was $1800 and has been discontinued for a long time, it's also substantially larger and heavier. I don't think REL designed the little 1205 to compete with something so massive. @@Adam-fw6hu I never heard the RS13, only the RS11 but if you need big output that's what the RS13 was all about, you'd probably need 3 1205's to match the output of a single RS13.
