I'm about to get a Colorado (possibly a Taco) so finding this video was helpful. I had the same experience when I purchased a motorcycle and asked about trail accessibility for a stock bike I received what I referred to as "crickets or DICKets"!!! Often NOT helpful people! I guess most people bought a jacked up lifted up souped up tricked out truck and had loads of experience as soon as they got their driver's license! Otherwise I'd think people would want to be helpful to others that are going through pretty much the same experience they had! Or maybe I'm just a moron! SMH! :-D I'm a new sub to your channel so hopefully I can find your follow up vid(s) where you share the myriad of help you were able to find!! I like your rig and look forward to scoping your vids.

I live in Louisiana and bought my first 4wd truck about 4 years ago. I ran into the same problems you have. I started going to the only National Forest in our state and drive the forest roads. Started in 4 high on the dirt roads then worked my way to 4lo in the deep mud. When driving thru the deep mud I always had another 4x4 vehicle with recovery gear with me. It allows you to get stuck and figure out your vehicles capabilities without worrying about being stranded alone. Did this for several years till I grew comfortable with my rig. Just came back from New Mexico and Colorado overland trip. The time on forest roads prepared me a lot for the trip.

That is a great way to work into being comfortable with your rig! I just found out that they close most of the forest roads around here from Dec. 15 to April so I missed my window lol. We went to New Mexico and loved it, what points did you hit while there?

We use a lot of stock vehicles in our trail guides. A wrangler can do pretty much most west coast trails stock, other vehicles need a few minor upgrades (skid plates, rock rails) to make them durable enough for heavy trail use. Anyway, my video on finding trails will help you. Also, when I lived on the east coast, I relied on off-road parks and you will likely have to do the same till you discover the overland routes. However, the off-road park will teach you to drive and the keys before you start overlanding. TrailsOffRoad (a website) is your key to finding non-off-road park trails. Good luck!

Wow thanks for the helpful info! Now that you mention it there are at least 3 offroad parks within 2 hours of us and I think they have beginner trails on them. We'll have to give them a try and see what happens. We'll have to watch your video on how to find trails!

Stock 2019 Z71 CCLB. Previous owner put on 265 , about 32”. Slight rub sometimes full turn . I’d rather have the 6’ bed vs ZR2, better suits my needs. I carry 2x6 boards to take care of the rare break over issue . Not rock crawling , just want to get a bit further back. Texas

I started running the power lines near my home. Now I go to Southington Off Road Park and ask others what trails and obstacles I can navigate. I'm doing this in a RAV4 with a 2inch lift!

You should probably start off with a little better platform like the ZR2 if you're wanting a GOOD stock off-road rig. A stock ZR2 will do far more than a Z71. If you're not getting a ZR2, plan on spending money on upgrades. You basically have a commuter truck with four-wheel drive. It's the sad truth, but that Z71 "off-road" sticker really doesn't mean squat lol

Interesting points. Same concerns here. I have taken my 2020 Z71 on a few trails and have bumped the front underside on obstacles and couple of times. Always makes my butt pucker. But I haven't had any major damage yet.

Thanks for the feedback! Are you running any skid plates on the underside?

@@28TrucksTravel At this point it is all stock. If I were to continue to trail ride I would add skids without a doubt.

I don't understand why you are so worried about doing any sort of damage to the truck, when you repeatedly say you want to test the limits. If you test the limits, you will damage things.
@28TrucksTravel
@28TrucksTravel 3 жыл бұрын
Testing the limits means up and until trail damage occurs. These trucks have a lot of capability in them without doing damage!
