The high end sims that exist today are closer than ever to real life simulation. Of course we'll never quite be able to replicate G force (which is kinda essential for real life driving) but it gives drivers a good base on which to build on when they take to the irl track. I wouldn't be surprised if sim racing started to serve a similar function to karting; being a place where people can hone racecraft and setup knowledge before on to better things. It's nice to see you guys run sim racing videos every now and then. Maybe we can do something together some time!

>Of course we'll never quite be able to replicate G force (which is kinda essential for real life driving) Well, don't full motion rigs do a (sort of) good job of throwing your butt around already? Also: VR for full near death experience. I'd say, that it's mostly price of those setups that prevent them from reaching mainstream and changing opinions about sim racing. Sooner or later, as sim games and equipment gets even better we'll see both more sim racers becoming irl drivers, and retiring irl drivers becoming sim racing streamers. Even the big sim rigs can’t replicate g force, sure they throw you around and shake the living daylights out of you if you go over a sawtooth kerb. @@dxme9190 Those moving seats are trash. I tried a very expensive one at a car show once and it feels nothing like real track driving. As soon as you play manual with clutch and stick to the racing line, while also turning all the settings to simulation, you really realise that you are becoming a better driver. rev-matching, heel and toe and double clutching on the sim is nothing like in the real world. In AC I can heel and toe from 6 to 1st flawlessly and double clutch all the way from 1st to 6th flawlessly but IRL it is a PITA. 1-Car Pedals don't have the same feeling, nor the same dimensions, nor the same positioning or travel as a simulator setup 2-What seems to be a perfect rev match in the game, in the car you get to feel jerks, the clutch "skidding" and a bunch of other feelings that you couldn't tell in a game

I will tell you a little story. My family was used to race on bikes at a time. My dad learned how to drive a car and bikes at the age of 6 with his father and compete on races. But when my mom met him she maid him promise to never go back on a bike or race anything. Years later, when I was a small child I was used to play gran turismo during days on a PSP. One time, they proposed me to do a stage on karting for 2 weeks. And I accepted it. It was the first time of my life I was driving something. So instructors put me in the beginners’ group. The thing is, at the end of the day, I was one of quickest drivers around the track even with confirmed ones. In a week we did a championship, and I won it. With in all races, the best lap time. They were pretty impressed. And they asked were do I had learned how to take turns like that ? I simply answered “Gran Turismo” So for me it is true : you can learn how to drive around tracks on a console or a PC. Now I’ve just got Assetto corsa with a wheel and god it is good ! Chees

I can fully confirm that simulators help massively in the real world, even basic racing simulators such as a Logitech g27/g29 with granturismo or Forza can provide a good basic guild-line into racing. By the time I was 8 I jumped into a go kart and in my first race out I beat a state champion by the name of Keb Evans, the rest of my karting career was extremely successful. By the age of 12 I made it into the granturismo academy competition twice, but due to my age I was declined. I then swapped to Assetto Corsa, Rfactor etc. and I jumped to cars at the age of 12, and I didn’t miss a beat. I taught myself basic racing techniques such as heel and toe through a simulator. Being PRO at anything is about as much experience as possible and that counts for just about everything.

Yes, racing sims can make you a pro driver. Looking over here in the US rather than overseas, William Byron is a perfect example. Got his start in iRacing, then with his father who owns Liberty University, got his start in Legends cars, then started climbing the NASCAR ladder with K&N series, then to Trucks, winning the Xfinity championship the next year, and now won the Rookie of the Year in the Cup series with Hendrick Motorsports. Sim racers can now work their way up without a lot of dough. EDIT: Forgot this. Although his dad still gave him money to race rather than race teams noticing him, sim racing was still an integral part of his dad deciding that he should start his career.

I used to have a Logitech force-feedback wheel for Gran Turismo 3-4 and I miss it so much! I may not be a professional racing driver, but I do feel it's made me a better every day driver since I was fooling with that wheel back when I was too young to drive. lol it was hilarious that when you let go of the wheel at any time the wheel would just walk back and forth but I could only gain control of a car when the power was on. When I lost power it was impossible for me to accurately drive the car. The end came when the power wires finally broke off of the circuit board and I didn't have soldering tools to fix it. So I gave it to someone who did and he enjoyed it for years more to come. Should have seen all the dead skin that accumulated on that thing!

Wholeheartedly agree with the points in this video. Back when I used to play Gran Turismo 2, I would often remember the driving tips in that game and gradually transferred them into real life driving. Racing games definitely made me a better driver overall.

because of sim racing I've learn to drive a manual heele toe, left foot braking, counter steering, better throttle control during slide, racing line to be faster around the corner of the entrance ramp and exit ramp of the highway. I'm trying to improve my driving skills in both RL and simracing. Only different is the game cars are lot faster and tricking to control(depends on the car of course) than my SUV lol

What I've learned through playing Gran Turismo all these years, is that, at the very least, you get to learn the fundamentals of racing. Such as cornering and breaking, and following racing lines. I dare to say, knowing that has helped me understand real life driving a bit better.

Sim racing will replace karting. A lot of people say "sim racing will not 100% replicate real racing" but does karting replicate driving gts, rallys or F1 cars? No but you will learn the fundamental stuff which the most important part not just in racing but anything that requires skill. To be great you to nail the fundamental things first.

As stated by others in the comments, although it is true that connections and extremely high amounts of money are required for racing, sim racing can still be expensive when you consider all the gear you'll need to create a system good enough to compete with those that strive to get the fastest lap times in sim games. Considering you need to be at the top of the leaderboards to gain some ground, if you're not dropping over 1k, you can't compete

Dude... look at all the videos out there where a sim "racer" goes and drives a real racecar... Look at the lap times and compare to what real racing drivers turn on the same track in the same category... It DOES NOT make you a race driver... lol. The value in sim, for a real racing driver, is the visual perspective you get for a track you've not yet driven. And "maybe" shift points, brake points. There are no Gs. There is no pressure of injury, which can hamper performance. There is no comparison.
@anonymous_forester2681

@hawkgeoff
@hawkgeoff Жыл бұрын
@@anonymous_forester2681 Not with these silly video games. If you want to go and put out a scholarship for youngsters at the karting track that might actually work... but the sim racing is just a means for people who don't have any desire or drive to pretend they are racing drivers. That would be like handing out a scholarship for dudes that play Madden so they can get into football...lol. Hell you can go buy a used Legends car for less than many of these dreamers spend on their sim "rig"...lol.
