It's official - Robotic lawn mowers are here and they are INSANE!
Mowing the lawn on the weekend can now be left up to these autonomous vehicles while you relax doing...well...anything else!
But do they really work? Are they a gimmick or can they really be trusted to cut the grass as we would?
I tested the Works Landroid mower and see how Worx is brining smart tech to our homes to automated the monotonous task of mowing our lawns.

How close does it get the the edge? I don't mind trimming the very edge with a strimmer just like I have to with a traditional mower, but I have read these only cut up to 20cm to the edge which seems a big gap to leave and would put me off getting one.

I have an irregular lawn shape but I also have a few stepping sones that essentially level to the grass height. WOuld it travel over these or would I have to outline them with the edging wire?

Im curious to know how it docks and if the landroid has to come in parallel or perpendicular like robot vacuum cleaners. This would change where one would install the docking platform.

It follows the perimeter wire all the way home to charge. You need to allow space for it to drive into its base

cuts as good as my regular mower - have had is doing my work for about 2 month now and all I do is take a trimmer to the edges.

I just completed my first year of my Landroid and I finally got my weekends back. Love how it mulches the grass back into the soil. Small enough that it breaks down pretty fast. You get, or should've gotten two 3M repair connectors with the unit. These are described in the owners manual.

If your yard is not flat, how does it do with going up and down slopes in the yard?

As long as the angle is not too steep it seems to handle it. So basically if you could comfortably push a lawnmower it should be OK. Check our their website for the exact angles and slopes it can do

Mine is flat but it seems to handle it as long as it's not too steep. So basically if you can push a lawnmower without too much issues, it should be fine. Their website might have some info on the max angle.

Depends on the size, but give it time and it will even out and not notice the tire marks. I post some in my Channel

Ya think ya mow the lawn once & then the mower would just recall the movements that have been automatically programed onto the mowers computer creating a grid pattern thus it's able to move by itself & any unfamiliar objects in it's path are picked by onboard proximity sensors etc..

Unfortunately doesn't work that way. It's like a Roomba. Random patterns until it hits the premier wire. It does have collision avoiding system

Sorry to say that would not cut it here. Besides the tree branches that fall off large trees I would hate to see this in the fall when I have a ton of leaves I have to mulch.

Like other mowers, back onto the grass to become mulch. Not every mower has a collection bin.

I owned several of these but I still have to pay a lawn care person to come and maintenance the machines and correct any imperfections that may occur while cutting the grass. Personally the only reason why I bought these machines was to see them moving across my lawn whenever I am Outdoors. With that said people need to realize that you will still have to pay for lawn care service to maintenance these machines.

as I said, cant compare to a regular lawn mower. Its about getting that time back of not having to do a mundane task every week. Its the reason we buy those robotic vacuum cleaners - let them do the job instead!

These are great autonomous little mowers. It's obvious by many of the comments that many manyguys need to hand in their man card. I mean, reason it out fellas! Its not brain surgery, more like tying your fucking shoes.

I own an L1500 and after a year I think for a regular garden it's useless, requires human intervention several times a day. It leaves the wire with no reason then stops with error message, or gives "mower lifted" error because there's a 1cm deep pit which is normal I guess in a garden which you use or if you have a dog. Firmware is getting worse and worse with updates leading to more full stops per day. Works fine if you had a perfect garden and the cut quality is excellent but for most of us it simply does not do the job as it's not capable to work on its own. I deeply regret my decision to purchase a Landroid.

interesting. Thank you for sharing it. I have had it running literally on it own since last year. The only time I stopped it was during a severe snow storm we had in Texas. Besides that, it just does it own thing since I marked out specific areas to stay out of. My garden isn't flat either and I havent had any mower lift issue (besides a handful of time when I leave tools in its pathway). I wonder if you don't have a defective sensor which is why its leaving its areas?

This just looks so terrible from the point of veiw of someone actually in lawncares the machine looks extremly cheap. Why do the blades look like tiny razors. What haopens with the grass cliooings. And soooo many more questions anyone who is falling for this device please do your research first and dont just impulsivly buy it after watching this video furst

so lets look at your points: 1. Looks Cheap - certainly isn't. High quality material, can withstand intense weather. 2. Tiny Razors - they are like little tiny razors but cut without any issues so not sure why thats an issue. 3. Grass Clippings - the clippings get left on the grass like any mower that doesn't have a collection bin. 4. Not sure what "falling for this device" means, but I have had it running for a few month and my grass is cut on a schedule and I don't have to lift a finger. Will it replace lawncare services? nope. You still need a human with experience for all the other related info such as nutrition, fertilizer etc. Will this give you back your time of doing mundane job? Absolutely. Automation is the future of everything. Much like everything else. Might be an idea to try automation instead of bashing it.
