This is something called the Gamer’s Dilemma. If you role play as your character and in role playing you believe that every NPC is a real person. It changes your perspective. Every NPC has a child, Wife, siblings, parent or friend in their lives that they matter to. So every time you kill an npc you are ruining their lives and those that they are apart of. This was explored much further to determine if you as a main protagonist was actually a hero or not. This also includes nova that we are told that are bad. For example in Skyrim. There are bandits and the forsworn. If you actually stop and listen to their dialogue especially the bandits. They make comments about making enough gold to retire. So with this knowledge in mind. It makes it more difficult to kill random NPCs because they live actual lives outside the roles that we as gamers are told that they play.

@@SynthwaveSamurai This is an interesting take. So if we mindlessly kill NPCs without a second thought. Does that mean our wonderment and ability to imagine ourselves as part of the antagonist role? See, I have been now fighting with the idea of “Am I now just playing games to play them?” I look back at the times I actually play games and I find it that I am less imaginative than when I used to be back in the days of n64/Gamecube era. Now I need to reassess if I actually lost interest in gaming and doing it out of habit or if as we get older we lose the imagination during game play. This is surely something to investigate on a deeper level.
