This thing is so badass. One thing I wish you'd done differently: that fork-mounted headlight is gonna blind you while driving... if you designed the bracket to offset the lights to either side of the front tire, and slightly angled outward and down (so you don't blind oncoming traffic), the light wouldn't bounce off the tire _plus_ they would actually be functional instead of purely aesthetic.
@chrisvanderhouwen9365
@chrisvanderhouwen9365 9 күн бұрын
The center headlight has to be there for aesthetics, I totally agree with Ethan. I think it should be in the middle as well, if you place them off center it will probably give a BMW GS vibe that does not fit this bike at all. Maybe it is possible to switch the ground of these headlights in a way they are disconnected when you are driving straight and connect when you steer? In such an angle the light beam is just passing the front tyre on the left and the right? Maybe use a small bracket and a mechanical switch connected in series with the ground of those two lights? I totally agree this light is blinding you when it illuminating the front tyre like that. An how cool would it be the drive it at night especially!
@MacroAggressor
@MacroAggressor 9 күн бұрын
@@chrisvanderhouwen9365 Exactly. This thing would have Mad-Max-Batman vibes for night driving... but won't be so pleasant with that permanent hi-beams-in-fog effect. But yeah, idk. I think it would look fine with a few inch offset on either side. *shrug

I literally KNOW that it's unlikely that you see this comment, but it is SO cool to watch this MONSTER of a THING to be ridden and somehow still feel like i could be driving it, even though it's more than evident that i couldn't drive it, even if i had the chance, when way more experienced drivers have a hard time controlling it. What i mean by that is that it's very cool to have been able to watch these videos for the past couple of years and actually feel like i, and every other viewer, have been a part of the channel and somehow trough all this fame and clout YOU guys as crew have been able to hold it together and deliver us these SUPER quality videos. It's actually insane that trough these videos we viewers in fact kinda can be a part of the crew. I don't know if its the environment that you are riding in that feels like home but for me these videoes are like they have been filmed in my backyard and that's insane considering that im Finnish! I actuallly find myself recognising part of these woods like "oh now u are in the backyard" or "nice i would have never gone that mud!" I love this editing and dedication to filming and wish you guys the best from the bottom of my heart! I'm no builder myself, but i have a wild imagiation like you guys and the passion towards your projects that you project is something to be jealous of! Keep up the work and knowing US's working ethic's work just as much as you need and really focus on these things that you love! Thanks for taking us along for the ride and continuing to show the progress on this build. It might be visually more fun to put a large old school horn, (think vintage Indian), in the central headlight position instead of very nice tire illuminators. Could be fun to make your own horn to fit the theme too. Consider a spring loaded chain tensioner, due to the rapid chain wear. At your increased comfort level, perhaps handguards and some gloves during testing are warranted? Keep having fun!

That’s cool. I see you daubing your foot down on corners when riding. Bad habit in big bikes. Remember if your foot catches, you’ll snap a bone, not catch the leaning bike. That bike, like a Harley, is too heavy for you to catch or hold it with your leg while is rolling and moving fast enough to lean it through a turn. Keep your feet and legs tucked in when moving. In the video you mention how it doesn’t hand like a dirt bike. Ta keep safe ya gotta keep your legs tucked in when in motion least you try to stop it from falling and break a leg. Plenty of stories of guys snapping ankles trying to ride big bikes the same way they do motocross or Enduros. Respect the weight of the bike. Love the videos. Keep up the awesome engineering!!!

I'm a retired mechanical designer and I've been following this build from your first video on it. I'm not a motorcycle guy myself but I was really intrigued with the design. I have to admit, early on I thought, "He'll never get that to run well." However, watching your design process and the testing you've done I quickly changed my mind on that and began saying to myself, "This is going to be so awesome to see once it's done." Watching you run that thing at speed and actually jump it is amazing. Are you planning to mount a front fender to keep sand and mud from impacting the radiator, not to mention your face? I realize that with that design it'd either have to be mounted to the frame and made wide enough to allow full range of motion on the wheel or you'd have to attach it to the spindle then extend it up the left side to allow it to move with the wheel. Great test on the rear fender. I thought for sure as close as it is to the tire that it would quickly fill up with mud, and I think in some locations like the Arizona Strip or Georgia where the mud is more like clay that it still could be an issue, but it does look cool! Keep up the great work.

Add a switch so that when the lights are pointed forward within 10 degrees L or R, the lights are off. And when you turn, they turn on. 10 degrees or more, idea is they only turn on when you're turning. ALSO, it would be really cool if you re-re-designed the bracket so that they're stationary on a pivot, and only turn when the handlebars turn past those 10 degrees L or R. Kinda like how some of our European cars (and old American) had turning headlights that remained straight unless they did a big turn into a hairpin. Also, the chain NEEDS to become a double link chain... somehow. It's so long and so much torque goes through it, that it will eventually break. If it were me, i'd see about buying elevator chain. The stuff used for the counterweight of a lift. Those are expensive, but afaik, it's super duper strong chain with very high tolerances against stretch.

Nice video, thanks for the entertainment! I'm sure it was mentioned numerous times in the 3K+ Comments but you needed a dynamic chain tensioner: spring action or hydraulic. (Look up motocross chain tensioners of the 1970-80's.) The distance between the countershaft sprocket and the swingarm pivot is large so the chain tension will vary greatly with swingarm position when fully compressed or fully extended. Max chain tension I believe via the videos will be at full swingarm compression? (Max tension= when the countershaft + swingarm pivot + Rear axle are inline on the same plane. Above or below this and you will get slack.) Huge tension forces and excessive chain stretch so fast because of the large inertia created from all that un-sprung weight of tires, etc moving up and down. Your shock dampener is also screaming for mercy, lol! Might of also contributed somewhat to the rear axle bend, (if it's bent "off center or out of round" vs just "twisted bend".) Good luck fine tuning your wonderful creation sirs!

Of all the crazy builds I've seen in my life, in person and online. This definitely takes my vote for number 1. Anything is possible, but this does not look like it shouldn't exist or especially drive so well. Great job. Love all the builds, but this is ridiculously awesome.

You should put the handle bar lights on the same plane but side by side on like a 90° angle to light up the peripherals. Might help a little more with visibility instead of lighting up the tire 😅. Love the content broskies 😎

I can not put into words how awesome the monster chopper is. Not only does it look amazing and badass, it also works, and it even works well. Ethan you created a masterpiece. I though the kernel would be my favorite build forever, but this Monster chopper definitely tops it and I am sure you will come up with something even better in the future.

Amazing video guys, as always! With your difficulty leaning after you lowered the tire pressure, you may want to shave the lobes again, since they are more squared off because of the lower pressure. You can see it at 38:52 that they are not as round as they coud be

As someone that has designed and built equipment I have fully enjoyed this build so far. Now comes the fine tuning of the design. As for you twisting the shaft I'm not surprised at all. There is a lot of torque and grip with that tire... the weak links are the chain and the cantilevered shaft.

I would have used a spring loaded chain tensioner that tensioning the chain outwards. It would compensate for chain extention and eliminate the chain slaping on the frame. This build is dope, been a joy to see it!

I think it needs a sprag clutch bearing in the jackshaft. The torque from the engine and the tension there isn't a problem, the torque from the idling wheel back driving the system is the problem.

You want to tension inwards, because going outwards makes it more likely to come off the rear sprocket because it engages with less teeth

what this thing needs is some outriggers - one support or "stabiliser" could be attached to the front swingarm, the secondary one could comprise a stowage point and storage unit. The outriggers could be retractable, and a suitable outrigger design with active suspension would enable the bike to be jacked up and hydropneumatically maneuvered in rough or rock crawl conditions.

valid point about the regular bike and snow bike. I simply have a 90 pound fat tire ebike.. it's like i can come to a stop and let the 26x4 tires do what they got to do on their own. A regular bike , you own it.. it is meant to be nimble and thrashed. weight versus footprint versus gyro. Awesome machine to see it running and drving.
