We got a call from some adventure bikers that were in Kane Creek and needed help getting out. They were totally exhausted and needed help getting their bikes out to the main road. So Mike and I headed in with Trailmater, the recovery trailer and Wile E. We got them loaded up and got the bikes back to the highway. That trail is alot tougher than some people realize. Glad they made the call before one of them got hurt. Then Mike and Shawn went up onto Polar Mesa to rescue a Jeep TJ that had stop running. After some diagnosis they found a blown fuse and a rubbed wire. After a quick repair they drove it out and met the customer with it. Thank you everyone for watching and supporting us.

Agreed. Driving or riding tired is bad enough. Off road, one slip, one lapse in judgement and you're injured or your bike is significantly damaged. Some time to rest and hydrate, a nice ride out - ready to head to the hotel.

I suspect they found themselves out of their depths because those bikes were not a good fit for those trails. Too heavy and designed for tarmac and unsealed roads. Not for the likes of Kane Creek. They both had passengers as well, and if that meant wives, who might have been persuaded against their better judgement, then I don't even want to think about the consequences if the guys had ignored their wife's demand to call Rory, and had pressed on. And if those ladies ever got to see a certain other time Rory had a close call on Kane Creek, well I don't even want to think about that... kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nZx4lsKV2bSvgmw.html

Hey look! That’s me! On the R 1200 GS. Dropped that poor bike probably 20-30 times. Luckily it’s a touch bike that can handle it. Full crash bars and bark busters. We had been on the trail for 6+ hours and ran out of water luckily we had a filter with us. But no snacks and had been riding those bikes hard too get there. Can’t express how nice it was to be recovered with such a seamless process of just having them trailered out.

Unless one is highly skilled, the GS and Duck are too heavy for those tracks. An average rider uses up to much energy wrestling those big bikes through such terrain. Give me a DR650 or small KTM. Butttt, you do you. 😊

Yeah, I know that crushing feeling of defeat from half-day mountainbike tours on my own. Planning the route, trying to be efficient with your stamina, sun is going down in 2 hours (obviously forgot the lights at home) - and 1 hour from home you run out of steam. No juice left, out of food and almost out of water. Yepp, not a very pleasant feeling... 😕 So it was a smart thing for these bikers to call for help. 👍

Very impressive on two counts. 1 - those dudes made it that far back into Kane Creek on street bikes. I know they're adventure bikes that can go offroad, but those really are just glorified street bikes. 2 - You guys took a TRAILER into elephant hill, loaded it and went back out! Slickrock sorcery once again. Kudos to those riders for their bravery and for having the good sense to know when to tap out.

Before the entire peanut gallery dunks on the bikers: These bikes may not be the best choice for a trail with crawling elements, yet one can do a lot with such bikes (those right here need some mods, starting with the front tires) given enough skill, strength and stamina. Look for videos what ridiculous feats expert riders get out of adventure / enduro machines. These guys went out there to have fun, until it wasnt fun anymore and made the call. Nothing to be ashamed of, in my opinion. You learn the most from your mistakes and as long as you call it a day before it gets really bad, the only harm done will be to your wallet in exchange for a experience gained.

Its the big marketing trick to 1. make people believe they can do stuff like that if the buy a big adventure bike and 2 that its going to be fun. Even a pro that could finish the trail would have more fun on a 250 than on these things out there. They are great machines but they have their place, and they sell a dream more than reality.
