Jay gave me the opportunity to compare the NSX generations. I brought my NA2 2004 NSX and one other owner at Jays garage had an NA1 1995 41K mile NSX. The 2017 NSX is Jay's and it is currently for sale. This video serves as a walkthrough of the differences and also a comparison of the generations.

I owned an original NSX and finally had the chance to drive the new one. I loved my older NSX. It stood out and though it had much less HP than I was used to, some easy add ons helped. The new one is just a much different car. The acceleration was great and it was fun to drive. These are two entirely different cars and of course they should be since it’s been two decades. Anyway I wasn’t disappointed in the new NSX at all.

NSX stands for New Sports eXperiment. The original NSX had innovative features, such as extensive use of aluminium. The new one needed to have something innovative. And while the hybrid tech is indeed innovative, the price is too high and it came to the market too late.

Hadis Saeed the original only became legendary ten yrs after it came out....the old one was cutting edge tech at the time and this one is too. The problem is most people commenting dont understand the tech in the new nsx and have never driven one. They are basing their opinions on what others say, right or wrong, and their perceived notion of the Acura brand. The old one wasnt appreciated until they were almost done building them...and this will be no different. And whoever said they are not selling has no idea of the current nsx market....

The car failed because they let American engineers design car for American market. And it seems that Japanese know better how to design car for other markets lol. It might have been hit just like GTR R35, 370z or CTR but nope they gave out project to bunch of young engineers without any previous experience in designing supercars who as we can see now didn't know what they were doing...

Also only the last design choice which were minor was design in america, but at that point you already the car was already compeleted.

John Dessire, the 2010 V10 concept was scrapped due to financial problems faced by honda back in the day. This car was all new design made in America, read about it watch some videos just research the subject and you will clearly realize that. Car was not completed in 2011, it was just mere concept wasn't functional in any part it didn't had anything other than concept of visuals, and concept of powertrain which as I mentioned was scraped in favor of American tailored eco- friendly sports car. Xerro No Vatimo, As far as I'm aware she was the head of project, but it wouldn't be possible for her to design car by herself so there were many other people involved.

Funny when haters say the NSX isn't fast... so 2.9 to about 3.3sec 0-60mph isn't fast? Not many cars can actually beat it that don't cost $150k or more. 3Cat lol. you clearly don't understand. off the line, anything with all wheel drive can do 0-60 in 3 seconds. a second hand subaru can do it in almost 4 seconds and that you can get for a few grand. fact is that it's slow in EVERYTHING else. it can't take a turn like it's competitors, it can't accelerate like them (after 60), it doesn't have the same feel and just is overall much worse. it is even more expensive than some Much better cars. the McLaren 720s would absolutely make minced meat of this is EVERY way- FACT! it's a bad car. that's all there is too it.

lol to each his own, The only thing I know for certain is that you have never driven the NSX. BTW the McLaren 720s will make minced meat out of almost everything and cost twice as much as the NSX so how is that even a comparison?
@deadlyphoenix83
@deadlyphoenix83 6 жыл бұрын
3Cat fair enough, the 720s is 50k more expensive. compare it to a 570s tho. they cost the same and that would also tear this apart in basically every aspect. and I haven't driven it, but look at what everyone says about it. everyone who has driven it wouldn't even put it on the same level as a 570s in terms of driving experience
@MortgageEasy
@MortgageEasy 6 жыл бұрын
If I could have bought a 720s for only $50k more I would have. The least I have ever seen a 720s go for is about $330k my NSX only cost $149k. Yes, I could have bought a 570 for about the same price although they don't appeal to me visually.

How to save the NSX: 1.) Ditch the heavy ass hybrid system and get the car to weigh in around 3200-3400lbs. 2.) Increase the displacement of the engine to 3.8Liter and give the car at least a 8000 r.p.m. with stronger internals. Let that engine breathe to 600 horsepower. 3.) Design the car for the car's sake. Not Acura's sake. Bring back nice proportions or evolve the look of the previous NSX into this model. Classic design. The current car will look dated in a couple of years. 4.) Personally, for the interior, give it an analog tachometer. Have someone like Breitling or Oris design it. No fancy anything. Make the cockpit beautiful but simple. 5.) Make the engine sound like a screamer. Hell, make the NSX like the GT3 variant. Mean as hell with no hybrid bullshit.
@danielzychniewicz2633

@@Macmccl1 Sure no one argues that. It's not really the problem of the car being "bad" but as Rob said. It's not an NSX, it has nothing in common with the NSX Lineage. I would totally believe someone that told me it's a civic super car coupe, if I didn't know better. It's probably everything anyone wants from a supercar sure but it's just not "NSX". Yeah with the mindset of getting a really good car and not caring about the name/lineage/history I can see people enjoying it. Time and time again as recently with the supra, it's not what people want for an "NSX" or an "Supra". It just shows 1. How difficult it is to reproduce a nostalgia filled Supercar, because part of the appeal is the 90s look, feel, lack of safety etc. They just feel different from modern cars. 2. How out of touch manufacturers are with their fanbase. Yeah maybe most fans that critique the Supra wouldn't be able to buy one even if they wanted, but no manual transmission for example? Come one.

I am the original owner of a '94, purchased in '95. There are major difference between these cars. '95 and '96 started the T-top which made the car heavier. Which required the power steering. It was not until '97 that Acura bumped up the displacement and gave it a 6 speed. There are very few coupes after '94. They had to be special ordered. The Zanardi edition that was available in '99 is the cream of the crop. That has the '94 body and the mechanical of the '99. Combining the lighter body with the big engine and the 6 speed. Other than the limited edition in '99, I think the '94 is probably the one to get. Early NSX like have smaller tyres and there is a lot of toe out in the back which could ruin a set of rears in 5000 miles. '94 is the year that the bigger wheels were fitted. I love the feel on my NA1 and the view. I have yet to find a car with a better view in the driver's seat.

Nice comparison of features here. I do think there is some irony in that NSX 2.0 is actually getting some of the same criticism that NSX 1.0 got (no "soul", too relaxed on the road, etc). There's nothing wrong with a car doing everything well. I don't think that alone would be an issue. I think a lot of the issue is, unlike in 1991, the 2016 Italian/American/German competition are all much more competent and/or exciting in their own respective rights, and the pricepoint puts 2.0 in direct competition with some VERY competent cars. Is it a good car? yeah. Is it as relativistically groundbreaking as 1.0? I don't think it is. Would I own one? Sure. Would I be seriously tempted by a used R8, LPxxx Gallardo, etc instead? Sure. [edit] Also, you can jumpstart the 1.0 from the engine bay, no need to pull the spare out if you carry it ;)

Exactly. Back in 91 competition like Ferrari were in a not so great phase. Their cars looks were so so and reliability wasn't exactly brilliant. Along comes the Honda and it was as reliable as any other in their range, was relatively cheap to maintain, certainly compared to Italian exotica and it just worked and was also dynamically better(the R version which the US never got was much better), but you could drive it as a daily. It changed the whole idea of what a "supercar" was or could be. When Gordon Murray was designing the McLaren F1 even though he had access to all the supercars of the time, the car he most compared it to as a baseline was the NSX(he actually bought one too). In some ways it being so easy to live with and the badge didn't help it. A lot of the supercar customer base back then almost had a masochistic liking for quirky, uncomfortable and unreliable. If it wasn't Italian and didn't crap its gearbox every 20 miles and blow clouds of smoke every 100 miles, while giving you backache, they felt somehow cheated. :D I knew a guy who put big mileage up on a Ferrari 308 and the only problem he had was a wheel bearing needed replacement. He was almost disappointed. :D Badge bragging rights weren't in its favour of course and still aren't. Hence Honda coming up with the "luxury" Acura brand in a few markets to help it stand out.

NOW, the car is worth 400-450k for a clean low mile car. Sounds pretty fuckin' similar to this NSX. People talking a lot of dog shit about a perfectly capable car. Mattxx the reason the Ford GT is so much now is because of how raw the driving experience is manual trans no traction control and 550 horsepower in a 3450 pound mid-engined car. The car is a beast in its own right and people didn’t want it because “it’s just a ford” like people do with the Kia stinger now. But the people that bought them new drove them how they were meant to be driven and they same cannot be said for the people who buy the 05-06 GT’s now.

The problem is these young people making and inherited money always want something newer, faster, etc., to get more attention. But they have no intention of keeping these cars for at least 5 years... Which the NSX and Porsche are best.

TheKingkingg nah these are few and far in between. Keeping up with the Karda- I mean, Jones' is a thing and I would not expect new money to gravatate towards old classics. The high prices are a blessing and a curse. Real enthusiasts will have to wait around for a good deal/build bank while the high price keeps away joe blow's gen-z/millenial son brian.

TheBishop12 another person that just talk without putting in perspective when the first NSX roled out it was not ft or average Joe and many people hated it for it having less power, less prestige, etc, but as time went, then it proved to be a true icon and the reason why others are better today. This new generation is no different and something average Joe will have to wait for used ones 5-10 years.

TheKingkingg oh ok I definitely misunderstood your comment. I thought you were insinuating that the young people who come into money were going after these icons and not treating them right. Apparently there's a youtube car meme that goes when a channel becomes successful they buy a GTR. You know what though, hopefully at some point the group of people who aspire to own these gets less and less thus making demand amd prices fall. It has happened to some certain classics where demand was only coming from dying baby boomers wanting to experience their dream before they passed on. Rob mentioned something like this along the lines when talking about his Supra and it's projected value. You only get what people are willing to pay for it. Unfortunately that probably won't happen within our lifetime maybe the next two generations when people have forgotten about the fast & the furious.

Should be something that Acura's demographics can afford. Lambo and Aston owners are not cross shopping Acuras. A brand for the past several years have been making glorified civics/accords with """"sport"""" accessories, now suddenly drops a sports car and demands 200k for it. The NSX needs to drop down to 80-90k. I can only see it as a 911 competitor. Change the ILX to the Integra or make the "I" stand for Integra. Make it a 2 door, 4 seater. Now you got a potential entry level sports car for younger buyers. Gets people into the brand. Instead of buying a Porsche or Mercedes GT car, those Acura and other entry level enthusiasts are considering the NSX now. More potential buyers, more NSX off the lots.

I know this is a stretch, but similar to when Pontiac re-introduced the GTO in the 2000s. Was prob the best car Pontiac made in all ways, but people couldn’t get over the fact that it wasn’t a GTO. If they would have called it a new/different name, I believe they would have sold better.

$156k for a 2018 NSX. 573hp. For comparison: $128k for a 2018 Track Edition Nissan GTR. 565hp. $82k for a 2018 Z06 Corvette. 650hp. Basically, why would you want to buy a car that can get smoked on the street or track by a car that's roughly half its price? They tried to jump in on the hybrid supercar market far too soon for far too much for faaaaar too little.

Rob, I think you've managed to _get_ the Gen 1 NSX pretty quickly, gotten a feel for some of the intangibles. I think it's one of the most beautiful auto stylings ever. And the Gen 2, while being handsome enough, ain't close to the first. I think your opinion that _they should call it something else_ cannot be overstated. (Too late to fix that, though, and besides... I'm hearing rumors that the NSX is already a lame duck, slated to be discontinued soon. Time will tell...) I have two 2002-2005 cars and I've never been interested enough in the new one to even stop in at the dealership for a look-see. I still haven't seen one!

Rob pretty much nailed the issues in every way. I know what Acura were going for but because the of the original NSX's legacy they were up against certain expectations of the new one that they missed, possibly couldn't have every lived up to, given the state of supercars today is much different than in 1990; thanks in no small part to the original NSX. To quote Clarkeson "..if you're going to name your son Jesus he'd better grow up to be something pretty special."

Awesome NSX vid! Will you mod one to be a DONK and drive it through some farming town, like, on whatever main strip they have, like near a Sonic® Drive-in, at night, within the usual convoy of tricked-out, music-blasting rides? But you would be pumping out 90's sub bass cd's? That could even start a trend of peeps putting lift-kits and big donk wheels on like, faux-diamond-covered NSX's.

asdf072xxp those who have the money for a new NSX will surely have enough for a Huracan. No one goes and buys a $100k+ supercar as soon as they get a $100k in the bank. They wait till they've made $500k or a million. And once they've reached that they can easily buy a far superior car to the NSX i.e a Huracan.

The beauty of the original NSX, like most Hondas from the 90s, was it's simplicity. The total package was far more than the sum of its parts. The NSX never looked good "on paper" as far as specs go, but when you drove one you couldn't help but love it. They were a joy to own also because of the bulletproof reliability. The original NSX, like most Hondas from the 90s, was naturally beautiful without looking like it was really trying. Civics, Accords, and Preludes from that era all still look great. They look sporty and aggressive while looking simple and practical at the same time. New Hondas are trying way too hard to do way too much and as a result accomplishing far less. The CRZ is another example of a Honda flop. It would seem they were trying to combine the CRX with the first gen Insight, which would have been incredible.....except that it sucks. It's ugly, it doesn't drive anything like the CRX, and it is no where near as efficient as the Insight.

About the time the new NSX came out, there was one at a local car show(Festival of Speed, Scottsdale, AZ). I took a pic of it, and moved on. I didn't even look at it to see what it was. Only later when I saw a review of it, I took look back to see that it was an NSX. Sadly it didn't stand out at all, real shame. If it looked anything like the old one, I'm sure it would had a crowd around it. Instead, meh.

Let's face it guys, WE ARE EVOLVING, and as always, we are not staying the same stone-age look as the past. All things are evolving. In fact, I do adore the old models, it really screams the NSX's golden times, but I do appreciate the new looks of the NSX. For example, the Civic, the GTR, or any cars evolve from time to time. I wanted to be a car designer (but because I'm poor, I can't be one) so I do like any designs
