Just tried it and noticed that your captures seem to be “hotter” than others... I had to dial the input a bit down... any idea why that’s a thing? Otherwise...I’d love to have an Amp+Cab capture of yours cause with other IRs it isn’t quite comparable with the tone in the video you know.

Awesome! Thanks very much for doing this and providing the free capture.🙏 This time I listened on small monitors and it wasn't until you played the isolated versions that I could hear the slightest bit of "peach fuzz" on the highs of the real amp. In a mix I think it would be impossible. It is so close now that I think I have to do my own blind A/B shootout in Foobar with the isolated versions to make sure I'm not just fooling myself. Capturing just the amp alone (not cabinet) is a good choice as well. I have already downloaded and checked out your capture and it sounds great! 👍 Providing free captures of your amazing amp collection I think is a great way to promote your channel. I'd be willing to pay for a more extensive set of captures (gain levels, EQ variations), but only from someone that I know has a great ear and knows what they are doing. Not sure if you plan on doing that, but either way...keep up the great work!

This may be the closest one yet. I continued the blind listen during the isolated reveal, not looking at the screen. I could tell you switched, but there was nothing to tell them apart after hearing the cut. Incredible. Also, that riff was like a charging elephant. Damn.

Thanks for including the capture. I dont think many people know that if you have the free ToneX you cant use any captures unless you important them or pay for the full version. ToneX gets insane close though. The only thing that is really noticeable is how it treats the mids, and then again it isnt "bad" per say. It doesnt cook the high end like some other modelers do.

My guess is that B is the real 6505, and A is the Tonex capture. B sounded smoother and "thicker", while A had a prominent mid-hump, which I tend to associate with amp sims. Also the compression on the palm mutes and single notes sounded a bit more natural on B, although I could just be imagining that. (EDIT: Well I was totally wrong, lmaoooo. Just goes to show how close this technology has gotten. Amplitube still sounds like garbage though, and I'll always hold that against IK.)

Very close indeed! Tonex is certainly a superb capturing tool. Curious how it handles things like harmonically rich amp distortion? Something like a Soldano SLO or Marshall DSL, or the Rev G dual recs playing some pinch harmonics and such. There's where I find a lot of sims and captures just can't do the real amp justice. And awesome riffing as usual!

Hey Jon, for your next ToneX challenge, I would like to hear what a long, drawn out, ringing chord sounds like. I find that it's easier for high gain modelers to emulate aggressive, fully pushed riffs. But when you hit a slightly complex chord, such as a major chord, and let it ring out, then that usually reveals some kind of "weakness" or artefact in the modelled sound that sounds different from the original amp.

They are indeed pretty close. I will say though that the real 5150 is just a hair darker in the mids. That's just being super picky though because if someone were to listen through monitors or regular headphones (not sutdio grade), they probably wouldn't notice a thing, especially if it's in a full mix and not specifically looking to compare two seperate tones. Nicely done, sir.

Paused at 06:30. I could hear a slight difference in the (lower) mids, A sounding ever so slightly fuller there and B seems to have just a tiny bit less gain. But honestly extremely hard to tell apart in a full mix. I think if we did a full blind test without getting indication at what point exactly the sound changes it would be near impossible to nail it down. I will guess that A is the amp and B the tonex.

The mids in A and low end in B made it easy to tell which was what. Still, it wasn't a one sounds better than the other. Just one had more low end and the other was more mid forward. I personally dial my amps in with more mids than most, so I would have gladly used A over B in a mix.

One question: did you use some kind of booster before the preamp (like overdrive or EQ pedal)? If so is that boost an integral part of capture or has to be run before tonex input? I'm considering getting a tonex pedal, but that's a shame that even though tonex can also capture stomp boxes, the tonex pedal can't run them together with an amp model. (Although I suppose they can be captured together as one piece, that's why I'm asking)

ToneX should not use resampling if project sample rate equals neural network sample rate (i.e. 44.1k). But even for matching samplerates there is resampling, not very good quality, which cuts some highs. Maybe captured network even better than we hear through plugin. Same thing happens with GuitarML Proteus plugin and capture tools, resulting network are better than in Proteus, if it is used without crude resampling.

i heard the difference only when i was listening carefully and paying a lot of attention. Then I heard that A was a bit more "bloomy", and B was more 'present' in the high-mids and highs. That was a giveaway for me that B is a capture. (which is interesting as most people says things like 'real amps have a little more top end sizzle going on', 'captures/sims lack top end' etc. I usually can tell the sim/capture by the more present and fizzy top end, not the lack of top end... my ears are weird probably)
