You guys interested in selling the loader? I'm a North Carolina native myself with a small local owned construction company and trying to grow my business, I love the older equipment, it's what I was raised on, easier to work on and something I can buy and pay off And not put myself or my business in debt. I wasn't like the rest of the last 2 generations of having help with my business or family give it to me, I've had to work for everything I own and pay my own way. Fully agree with you! On my farm, we don't have any vehicles or equipment newer than 1991. We can still repair all of it ourselves and for much cheaper than new computerized stuff.

Hey hank, I'm pretty sure the theory behind why it wouldn't start is that the throttle must go into the shutoff position to activate the excess fuel function on the pump ready for its next start. And that's why it wouldn't start right after you reconnected the linkage but did fire right up after the fella banged the lever forward into the stop position then pulled it back to run.

Thats a nice older track loader, It's a lot better than some of the "rent a wrecks" you and Wyllie have been working on recently L.O.L. Depending on it's size those style batteries are of the 4 or 8D group it's not uncommon for there to be 1 4D on some 40-100 hp farm tractors or 3 or 4 8D's on some Articulated 4wd tractors in the 250hp plus range, it's a bad day when you have to tell a customer they all need replacing with current battery prices! That's a nice looking older 963 Cat loader, pretty sure its not a 961. Cat made this line after the 983, starting w/ a 943, 953, 963 and finishing off w/ the 973.

I had the cylinder head rebuilt and had valves replaced and seats refaced. Worked well after the overhaul.

Crazy how at times, it is just the simplest things. Had a friend who was selling an old Saab car, said it was heating up, and he didn't know why. A wire to his rigged up cooling fan was not connected!

From Mark in KY, The reason that the machine was parked was that they didn’t have a Crescent Wrench handy to put a bolt back in to the throttle clevis and thought the machine was a lost cause.😀😀😀 I wish that I had that machine for a few days at my place. That engine sounds really good to have been sitting that long.

@@MoneypitHomestead Good Deal, I live in Woodford County which is west of Lexington. I don’t waste any opportunities to tease Hank about the Crescent Wrenches although I recently purchased a Crescent two pack of slip joint pliers at TSC. When I noticed the pliers, I kind of wondered if Hank would be proud of me for staying within the Crescent brand name for my pliers. For the money, They were really nice pliers. Last year, I retired from the equipment section of KYTC in which we worked on a wide range of equipment - So I am naturally drawn to the equipment that Hank usually features on his videos. Thanks so much for saying hello to me.

i would put a full can of liquid Seafoam in the fuel. This is to clean the fuel system. Top up the Diesel tank with fresh fuel.

Battery is an 8D. Group 31 typically is 800-850CCA and has studs. Also is about 1/3 the size of an 8D.

I think it was likely parked because the undercarriage is shot. Probably disconnected the linkage for security purposes. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The owner gave up? When the problem was obvious, and easily observable with out taking anything apart? A disconnected throttle linkage. The thing started right up like it was parked yesterday.

That’s because it was parked yesterday. You can see the track marks behind it like it had just drove.
