Some video was either joking or doing a documentary (can't remember which) on why standardising USB somehow failed, I mean at the end of the day it is just 5 bits of wire that stick out of it. I think its crazy that there are 500 different types of shells for it.

I made one of those boxes too, but there is noooo way I can find the patience to take pictures of them all. It would be time to retire by the time I photograph them all 😂 I didn't realize key fobs fail that often, wow. Have a great day everyone

This red material is epoxy as far as I know. They use similar to keep in place BGA chips like CPU or GPU.

Same here :) in the last 8 years I haven't thrown anything out and so there is a solution for all problems. Over 200 laptops and a lot of motherboards need a lot of space but you can't prepare better if you want to work in the repair business.

@@Wheel333 I once auctioned a large box of scrap notebooks (broken case remains without mainboards and popular components) on ebay and sold it for 18€ on an auction. I was glad how much space I had made. 3 days later i had to buy a whole top shell for 60€ because of a broken power button... i just sold the matching part with the scrap :D

This red glue is SMD glue that cured via applying heat, unlike regular black under fill getting it to glass state is near impossible as it's maximum strength point is around 260C and glass state around 400C, without special tool removing this staff is way harder then removing solder mask from PCB. Actually when you encounter red glue first try scraping it without heat as some of the brand have lower strength at room temperature.

we have so many donor boards lol. you always think I should throw some of these away and then boom you get a repair where you need the board you were considering throwing away. im considering having employees go through and sort by manufacturer, type, etc.

I assume that when a port has been used from the port box then customers are able to buy replacement ports to make sure their boxes are stocked .. maybe quoting a valid port box customer code so you don’t get people just buying one or so ports from you

Currently USPS has a lot of issues delivering packages internationally. We used to charge $10 USPS international shipping for all packages up to 1Lbs or $25 for package 1-2lbs. Most of USPS shipments were returned to us after long period of time, or stuck somewhere and never got to destination. Our only option at this point is UPS which comes at a higher cost. We have it at $45 flat but sometimes we pay more to ship. The nice thing about UPS is delivery speed, in most cases less then a week. Of course shipping cost will not make sense for people with smaller orders. As soon as USPS gets back to normal, we'll start using them again.

You can, but since the board is not designed for USBC, there is no advantage changing port to USBC. Charge speed and data transfer speed will remain the same.

Lenovo is actually a brand that been use by many small new company that want to realese their products but by using lenovo brand so they will have advantage on selling n make profit from the brand, Lenovo make many profit from some companies using their brand that why we see many products with low quality with Lenovo brand.. sorry for long text. 🤣

Broken phones are a good source of components. I keep them for charging ports, microphones, etc...Plus, there is no need to search by the device name, just search mini usb charging port and compare the picture from the results with the component you have.

I'm really disappointed with Lenovo. I have the Lenovo Tab 4 8 and they did the same thing with the power connector and the red garbage they put on it. It was really hard to remove the red stuff and unfortunately three of the pads ripped off. The board masking was the same cheap stuff that easily comes off. Their prices on their devices are relatively cheap, but it makes sense now. I'm going to avoid buying Lenovo products.
