Tbh, I personally think that Vaan was underused in the games story, especially in his relationship with Ashe. The whole thing of Ashe seeing Rassler and Vaan seeing Reks is something that was mentioned and then brushed off kind of. I also feel like the distrust between Vaan/Ashe and Basch should've been played out longer

First of All. Penelo does have a line with Ashe. She comments about the dawn shard in the air or something I can't remember but you Skipped over it. Clear character development for Penelo and her serve anxiety. But ill give it to you because I was asleep for 2 hours in the middle of the video. Secondly. there is a hidden mechanic in the game where you seem to struggle to deal with because of the party members being targeted. If you remove you weapons it interrupts all queued actions targeting that character and it allows you to instantly use a item with some menu manipulation. remove weapon and then swap party members in and out of a boss battle etc.

The whole bit about the bomb being a lava cake because it's made of lava is so wholesome and gave me a grinning case of the happies

On the localization, the people responsible made a stylistic choice to translate the more straightforward Japanese into giving characters different dialects and styles of speaking to reflect something about their upbringing/place of birth, and just because they enjoyed the challenge. They also wanted the English voices to sound more theatrical. I found the effect pretty cool myself but trying to play this game when it came out and I was 14 I definitely had to look up a lot of stuff.

I totally agree about the FMV's looking kind of plain and empty (I mean seriously, a major early game FMV that introduces the main villain using the ambient background score? What was that about?)
