Small correction: To my knowledge, no, Black Box didn't pull a 180 after Prostreet's divisive reception with Undercover. Undercover was meant to more or less be like this from the start, and it actually had the longest development cycle of them all, starting as a successor to MW2005, which is why internally it's even labelled as "MW2". The main problem with it, is that due to its long development cycle, a lot of things changed over time, and as a studio BB gradually started experiencing problems internally, so the project slowly entered development hell. Prostreet was meant to be more of a filler release until the next "proper" entry was finished, although I find that questionable at best, since so much work went into that game, I simply cannot take it as anything more than a marketing strategy to hype Undercover and shift focus from PS, possibly because they didn't believe in its success, or weren't allowed to publicly display it. Only that it never was due to its troubled development, so we ended up with an unfinished game with a disjointed and nonsensical plot, inferior graphics and physics to PS (which, as revealed by some beta builds that surfaced a couple of years ago, had both superior graphics and vastly superior physics, particularly damage models), and plagued by wonky AI, poor balancing, and technical issues. It still manages to be a fun game despite being simply unfinished (the Wii/PS2 ports are even messier and yet crazy fun), but is it a good game, objectively speaking? No. It's easily one of the worst entries, but that also made it a worthwhile endeavor for modders. We wouldn't have gotten the Reformed mod if it didn't release in such a poor state. It's just too bad it flopped both critically and commercially...

NFS Undercover isn't the best NFS game, but man I loved playing it, especially with the heavy bloom. I wish it got remade..

@@luisortega8085 The heavy bloom was introduced to hide the rough and unifinished nature of Tri-City, and its general lack of polish and detail. There are some regions which are visibly unfinished, up in the north/northwest region. There won't ever be any remake or remaster of the Black Box games either, same for the classic era titles. In order to remaster these games, they'd have to relicense everything all over again, which is guaranteed to come at a loss, both financially, and in terms of content (good luck relicensing the music tracks and all cars along with their corresponding parts, for one).

The port for the PS2 was the NFS that I played the most on the console believe it or not (but I played U2, MW and Carbon more on PC). It ran better than previous entries and had really nice graphics. I kind of consider it a PS2 exclusive title since the PC and PS3 versions were that terrible and completely different mess of a game. To this day I come back through emulators or original hardware to play Undercover for PS2.

@@VictorGiordan2 Sorta same fam. The PS2 version of Undercover is my favorite when it comes to this game, despite the AI being broken and Carbon being visibly used as the base for it - the menus are literally retextured versions of it, for instance, and the handling is also closer to it and Prostreet than the PC/PS3/X360 counterparts. I'm also fond of the UG1 and UG2 ports for the system, unmodded they are actually superior to the PC ports in some regards, such as superior shaders, weather effects, and reflections. Then there's obviously the PS2 version of HP2, which is easily the definitive version of that game.

I did this before! The pine creek & Douglas race is nearly impossible without using micro drifts to gain speed, probably the biggest challenge I’ve ever faced in any racing game I did pick the gallardo for my pinkslip though because AWD cars tend to boost better than RWD

I actually went to the store back in the day looking to get undercover but got pro street as it was all they had. That was a great surprise as to how good it was…those multiuser battles split screen on the Highway battles were so fun

btw reformed mod makes this challenge easier due to pinkslip cars being pre-upgraded, unlike in vanilla game source: i've made the pinkslips edits back in 2020 for this mod

This challenge becomes trivial once you realize the final boss’s Lambo can be used early because they made all the Boss cars as a DLC for some reason.

Another one that I managed to beat the drift king in Need for Speed Prostreet with an almost stock Toyota AE86 as the only upgrade was the the suspension. It was fair challenging but at the same time rewarding

game is fun my xbox 360 doesn't overheat, it does get very hot though, but just like the later xbox consoles. i guess it was the first version that were trash. also title should be: Can you beat NFS Undercover without Buying Upgrades? (because you did end up getting upgrades either way, you just didn't buy them.)

Squeezing the most out of Undercover is like hitting that Ketchup bottle for the last drop that wasnt there to begin with. I completely lost faith in NfS when this released back in the day, I will watch interesting videos about it but it will never make it onto my hardrive :) Its nice that the modding communitie tries to improve but ressources are better off directed to better NfS titles...

To be honest, if you want to play this game; obligatory you had to install the Reformed mod, because, let's face it; It's *UNPLAYABLE* in their vanilla condition, same we can apply with NFS 2015, period.
