Did you do the barrels of the wheels also?? I'm concerned about the wheel weights not maintaining adhesion. I' doubt any of the tire installers here know how to prep a surface for wheel weights thats been ceramic coated.
@InJasonsGarage
@InJasonsGarage 3 жыл бұрын
Did you watch the video by any chance? 😎. Yes, I did the barrels. That's a fair concern. Most tire jockeys don't even think of it. You can always apply after the weights are added.

I just got new wheels and emailed Avalon King about this before they arrived. They told me it would be better to wait until the tires were mounted and balance weights were installed as the coating may interfere with the adhesion of the weights.
@InJasonsGarage
@InJasonsGarage 3 жыл бұрын
@@JMacRury They are probably right, and I should have considered this. Now I will double check my weights every once in a while. I may even just remove them, clean the surface with a polish and rubbing alcohol and then reinstall the weights. I am going to PIN this conversation to the top so people see it.

Jason, great video! Hope you and yours are all doing well and staying safe right now? I'll add that one of the best things I've done on my car was coating the wheels. Makes clean up so much easier... the added gloss is a nice benefit as well.

It is pretty easy and when you think about the economics of it...it is almost the same as detailing your wheels, but you do it once to clean your wheels less...and they look better throughout. Win-win!

Hi Jason, quick question. I also just got a new set of wheels. Do you recommend applying it after tires are mounted? Just worried about who ever mounts the tires might damage the coat. Thanks in advance
@InJasonsGarage
@InJasonsGarage 4 жыл бұрын
If you got them now and there's time for the coating to cure, I'd just do it while they are off the car as it is a bit easier. Keep in mind, the coating is very very thin, it doesn't have thickness like a clearcoat does and it is rather tough. If your installer it handling your wheels roughly to the point of damaging the ceramic coating, then he will also likely be damaging the paint under it, and you need to find a different installer. 😀

Keep in mind, it is crystal clear (see this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d9RioN2ht76akZ8.html). It will not repair damaged paint like scratches, etc. It will put a shine on existing paint, but the better the condition, the better the results are. Hope this answers your question!

@InJasonsGarage
@InJasonsGarage 4 жыл бұрын
As with the body panels, it all depends. Ceramic coating can wear away just like wax does, but on a much longer timeline because it is just more durable. A daily driver that sees a lot of use with dirty and grime/brake dust will need to be redone more often than a weekend show car. Doing the water test when clean will tell you how well the protection has lasted and if you need to reapply.

Hi Jason, nice to know you could use Armor Shield 9 on wheels and glass. I was debating whether or not to cover all windows in my car with it. Have you thought about looking into the X-pel Fusion ceramic coating? How would it compare to the Armor Shield?
@InJasonsGarage
@InJasonsGarage 4 жыл бұрын
I did all the windows on my Corvette with it. Cleaning and prep is even more critical when doing that because it is clear, of course, and streaks due to missing an area will be more visible. It isn't any more difficult, you just have to make sure you are thorough. Looking at X-Pel, right away the difference is apparent. Armor Shield is a DIY solution but X-Pel needs to be installed by a dealer.

@InJasonsGarage
@InJasonsGarage Жыл бұрын
There’s a couple of different schools of thought on this one. The answer is different depending on who you ask. I have had no problems whatsoever using 91% alcohol, but I also use my best judgment on it. I only use it as a light wipe just as a final step to ensure my previous prep steps are covered. Other people say that you should cut it with water, and I can’t say I disagree with that. So do what you feel is best. If you’re concerned about it damaging the paint, it won’t hurt to add a little bit of water to it even up to 50% if you really want to be cautious.
