The Esse bakeheart actually has ledges in the firebox for a grill to slide in. Wood fired steak is a real killer app. I guess if you have a real big firebox then it can fit a small campfire grill. There are some fireplace grilling videos where they do that

You can buy a grill to put into your fireplace of any kind and cook a steak real fast.

Yeah you can cook on a wood burning stove. You can also dig a hole and start a fire in it to make an underground oven. It's more primitive but it works good nonetheless.
