My BRZ has a catted UEL header, a cat-back, and an OFT tune. It sounds great, has no 'torque dip', and it's drivability is greatly improved. I estimate the power gain is about 15 to 20 hp and the torque curve is fattened significantly from idle to redline. I know its not much gain but it is much more entertaining that the "Nothi' Happ'nin" until the needle gets to 5K rpm the car came with. AND my mods are not going to break the con rods or overload the drive train.

I definitely want to still daily my 86 which is why I've been on the fence about boosting it. I think if I maintain it well making sure to check the engine oil, timing belt, etc regularly and not thrash it often it should be fine. Only thing atm I'm tossing up is whether to Turbo or Supercharge it. The deciding factor has to be which is more reliable in the long run. I'm not asking which is faster (I know that varies on the brand/kit anyway) but I just want the engine to be in one piece and not run into any major issues.

I think the more conservative thing for our cars is a supercharger with low boost. I think that it’ll give you more longevity then a turbo setup. But everything really depends heavily on the tune you get.

@@Brzjohn Yeah that's true. The tune is probably even more important than the boost itself since it's what will bring out the full potential. Thanks for the advice bro, there is a Supercharger kit I've been looking at with everything that it needs including the tune but the one I'm eyeing is Hella expensive since it's a top brand here in Australia. Probably should look around for a lower boost one since I want to daily but goddamn it's tempting 😂

I didn't watch the video but i can answer the title. Had turbo 86 for over year, daily it in crowded Warsaw, everything was fine and super fun everyday drive to work and back. Actually makes commuting fun, even in traffic. Still miss the car after many years, can't fault it, pretty much ideal sports car that you can daily with pleasure

for the BRZ line of cars, I HIGHLY suggest somewhere in between 8.5 and 9.5 PSI, don't go for the full 10, still adds like 60-80 hp, which is already a stupid amount for a daily

Cool vid and cool car! What part of pa are you in? I’m in north nj and I’ve been looking for this car everywhere and can’t find it.. literally no Subaru dealers have any because they said not many people in the east coast want them because they aren’t 4wd... hopefully I can find one soon cause I think I could do a lot to it and enjoy the ride like you! What's the blow off valve you're using? I love the sound, I'm a little new to cars but from what I've learned I believe that's what I'm hearing. It's right after you shift. Edit: 5:20 it's there, at 7:25 you don't hear it anymore.

The pods were made by block8head, they make a bunch of custom pods for different cars as well.

I plan to get a 2017 or so 86 but i am curious on what i can do without having to modifiy much else unless absolutely necessary i like the idea of supercharger currently found a kit for 4k which is a lot to me but saving wouldnt be hard another thing is header and exhaust as ik different types will give a few more horses but the concern there is how will it affect the computer with emmisions etc or is there certain ways around that?

With emissions you can stay catted but lose a few HP. Depends where you live and emissions. But with a tune everything is sorted out with the extra hp

For reliability on a daily would you recommend a turbo or a supercharger, hot environment over 110F during summers (put that info in because I know it’s a factor)

I would say a supercharger might be a little better for daily reliability purposes. But I’ve been boosted like 12k miles zero issues

Hey John do you know where I could get a 8psi spring for this kit? I think I'm going to run 8 pounds just to make extra sure I don't blow my shit lol. Any idea how much power that would be making? I'm hoping to get at least 280whp minimum. I'd be fine with bumping it up and using the included 9.4psi spring, but I'd have a little peace of mind with less boost.

Hey brother! You should be able to grab some springs from turbosmart! 8 psi is a safe bet. Should be making around 280 I’d think on 93.

Why not? I daily drive my supercharged BRZ, commuting 80 miles a day in it. The Harrop installation is very well engineered and nothing has gone wrong in some 60k miles since I supercharged it. The secret is to follow the service intervals and use the best oil - Millers Nanotech. Don't skimp on any work required and the BRZ will reward with a fun drive and better reliability than I ever had from four BMWs.

After putting over 20k in mods on my car I can safely say that I would never do it again and I would not daily it. I freak out about accidents because my insurance doesn't cover mods and you kinda also have it in the back of your mind that something is going to blow or break and you'll have to spend a lot of money or do a lot of work to get it back up and running. Not really worth it if you are not making a lot of money or have a 2nd vehicle to daily.

Ya I feel you. Something you put a lot of time and money into isn’t really the best thing to daily. Just a big expense and risk. And one thing could ruin it all. But at the same time if it’s something you love maybe some people can justify it.
