I don't really think these are necessary, even the CMP says commercial ammo under 180 grains is ok. I think a few instances of bent op rods from just simply being worn out got blown out of proportion. The higher pressure might slightly accelerate wear but I don't think its very significant.

@redtra236 you could be right on that, I'd rather be safe than sorry though...probably overkill, but that's okay.

No worries, here is a recent test on them and they have links on where to get them: www.gun-tests.com/rifles/garands-gas-plugs-we-test-for-function-safety-and-accuracy/ Mine are from Garand Gear.

Cool, thanks! Yeah I need to do some serious thinking on the whole merch stuff. It's definitely on my mind, just have to figure out all the logistics.

There is no need for special gas plugs for the M1. The 30-06 was developed at 50,000 CUP and it’s still there today. The M1 rifle was designed, adopted and produced around the M1 ball cartridge. The full power 173g loading. This loading stayed with M1AP loading throughout the 30-06’s military lifetime. Millions of full power loads were fired through the M1 rifle without ill effects. The Lower powered M2 Ball ammo was actually adopted a year after the M1 rifle. Even the CMP manual states that any 30-06 180 grain and below is safe in the M1 rifle. The lower power M2 ball came about because of the Army’s requirement for ammo that would not carry past stateside rifle ranges in populated areas. NOT because of the weaknesses in the M1 rifle. Any well maintained M1, properly greased with new recoil springs, will tolerate standard 30-06 commercial loadings.

there has been a few danish issued m1's on the uk market in 7.62 nato , they have always been an expensive rifle here in the uk, the price dropped just after the filming of saving private ryan but they were dog rough but it soon shot up, you cant get one for under £1200 now

Very interesting, yeah, I believe this one was a Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) conversion from 30-06. It would have been really cool if it had been a post WWII US Navy conversion, but I'm still happy with it. I think I paid $900 for it about 4 years ago. I don't know about you guys, but I think a lot of old curio and relic (50 years old and older) weapons here in the USA have shot up in value due to them being in a lot of popular video games. They are certainly getting harder to come by regardless. That being said, I'll be featuring a cool No.1 MK.lll* in an upcoming video on the 9th.
