Just gave my son an expert grade M1 and 2000 rounds of M2 ball ammunition. My first Army basic yes I did it twice. I took it in 1956. The M1 was my weapon. I had an M1 in Korea.

I used to run a gun shop and something that often gets overlooked on these rifles are Bent Operating Rods. Since we rarely know the history of these guns, it’s extremely common to find the gas operating rods bent due to improper ammo use. The M1 Garand DOES NOT have a self regulating gas system like the M-14/M1A… and use of any other ammo than 150 grain ball, can cause damage. Have it checked (usually can be straightened by a competent gunsmith) if it is bent. Make sure to use only 150 grain ball ammo to prevent such damage. 👍🏻

My father carried a Winchester Garand serial # 109724 in WWII. Nice rifle you got there.

A known cause of a 7th round stoppage is the way you load the enbloc clip. You should load your first round to the left so the last round feeds from the right. There was a machining operation performed post production in th ereceiver on the early rifles to reduce the occurrence but it can still happen. Just remember, load left. I your video the clip you load is loaded incorrectly, the top round is on the left. It also makes pushing the clip in the rifle easier when you don't have to reach your thumb across the clip to the left side. I also run the GarandGear gas plug in all my Garands, it's awesome and cheap insurance for your oprod.

You have an excellent rifle. Very good bore for a field grade and definitely worth the money. I frequent the North store and most service grades do not even have bores that good. I've had the same issue as you once with bump firing and it seems to be pretty common with the Garand. I've been told that it happens sometimes when you encounter a round that was loaded a bit spicier. I wouldn't say that it's your trigger. True lighter trigger pulls increase the chances of a bump fire but 5 and 1/2 pounds still sounds a bit heavy for that though I'm not 100% sure.

That’s a beauty!!! I remember doing honor guard with those. Haven’t shot one in 30 years.

Where do you suggest getting one if you live outside the states

Would lower powered ammunition have an effect on how far the empty enbloc clip is ejected? Or is that all just the spring in the internal magazine.
@mateoocampo31659 ай бұрын
I think you're OK with the doubling. Ive accidently bump fired AR's from holding them lightly while bench shooting. Did you have a firm grip? I've also bump fired a Norinco (on purpose) by "riding the reset".

My November of'41 Springfield with an October of '41 barrel sometimes has a seventh round misfeed. I think it is short cycling It is not that piece milled off of the earlier ones.I'll have to check my old clips.Really great program 🏆,PA.

Yea there’s several issues that can cause 7th round stoppage. I use to get it a lot then I switched to GI or foreign GI clips and I never get it. That was the first time in a long time. When I loaded that clip it was so tight I had to play w the rounds to get them to seat correctly. I figured I was gonna have a problem w it and I was correct. Those clips are aggressive engineering and there suppose to be really good but I’ve had issues w them. Some are fine but most are just too tight and out of spec in my opinion or the coating they put on them is trash I’m not sure which. Like I said just buy a handful of GI clips and call it a day or you said I have a bouch look though then and take out the new ones and see if the 7th round stoppage goes away. You can tell by the coating on them they look kinda sparkely and new.

That looks like a nice Garand. They are like a Lay's potato chip. You can't just have just one.

When did you purchase this rifle? I’ve been thinking about getting one but don’t want to end up with a bad batch.
@THEPAGUNGUY8 ай бұрын
Was ordered in September if memory serves me right. Yea I think I got it at the end of September

Every semi automatic allows you to release the trigger at the break. You do not have to allow it to go totally forward.
@nick167548 ай бұрын
I recently got a Field Grade from this same batch as yours. Did you do a FOIA request on the receiver serial? Mine did not show any records of being a Philippines return. I wonder if yours was, as evidenced by the pitting? Nice rifle regardless. What commercial ammo are you using?
@THEPAGUNGUY8 ай бұрын
Not sure what a FOIA is? I assumed it was from the Philippines bc of the pitting. I was just using federal blue box stuff u get at Walmart. 150 grain

@SuperMartind283 күн бұрын
Just wondering, you said that the receiver date was 1943. The trigger assembly suggests it would be after 1945 because it is the stamped assembly rather than the milled trigger assembly with the hole in the rear of the trigger guard . Would that be correct or am I wrong?
@THEPAGUNGUY2 күн бұрын
So the stamped trigger guard actually went into production in 1944. Also all these M1s have been rebuild so you go off the serial number as to the production date.
@SuperMartind282 күн бұрын
@@THEPAGUNGUY I know they’ve been rebuilt with all kinds of different parts, would there really be any reason to change out a trigger assembly though?
@THEPAGUNGUY2 күн бұрын
@@SuperMartind28yea most of them got the upgraded trigger guard when they went in for rebuild. You can replace just the trigger guard not the hole pack. But yea most of them got changed out at some point.

That looks awesome, especially for a Field Grade. Ive seen some Fields that had a lot worse ME and TE and stock dents, yours looks great. If I remember correctly, when they were developing the Garand they also had the 7th round issue. I think they got around it by loading all of their clips with the top round on the right. Maybe that would work for the commercial enbloc clips too?
@THEPAGUNGUY9 ай бұрын
It was actually a machining error in the early guns the loading on the right is a myth it didn’t make a difference here is a video the CMP and GCA did on it. There’s other causes too but the most common one I’ve found is the commercial enblocks. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f9t0rJplsKuZfHk.htmlsi=leqwuAXLLjyRywyp

Possibly a short cycle? I think that is what mine is doin , because the case gets a dent from being under the bolt.Ive never had the Gas cylinder or piston measured.
