You can now grow beards in the British Army but there are caveats. In this video I will go through them all.

Yes for those who really want to join then it doesn't move the needle much. But I think for reservists it's a welcome change when being a soldier isn't your identity 100% of the time. In the spirit of humour in adversity I think MF you should let out your beard for 2 weeks and see if it hits the standards. I also think it would look cool on you.

I mean.. we still stand out cos we can do actual phys 😅 Personally I think it’s more about retention rather than recruitment. Nothing actually to do with a beard; but the sense of autonomy/identity and a sense of being heard when the desire to grow a beard was voiced. I think a lot of service personnel in the Army see the disparity between standards and demands placed on them compared to the Navy and RAF; so it’s one step closer to being treated “fairly” (not sure if that’s the right word but it’s the only one that comes to mind when trying to convey my point)

You can have a beard… errrrrr it’s sad when you work for an organisation were they are more bothered about how you grow your facial hair.. and the government wonders why we have a recruitment problem

Allyness saves lives. Not to mention SF had beards all through Herrick, so no beards don't get you killed and clean shaven faces don't stop bullets. That said I've not personally tried it. Mind you I know a guy from Liverpool called Jimmy who had his eye shot out in the Falklands taking Longdon, so maybe it does work because he lived tbh. Even the oldest of dinosaurs has to accept that being allowed beards (now) isn't why the country has had a recruitment problem for years. There'll be numerous reasons why kids don't want to join but I can guarantee having the option to grow facial hair isn't why they're not. Like it just doesn't even make sense as a concept. It's like saying someone doesn't want to be a bootnecks because women can have ponytails now. In what world would that be a contributing factor as to why people aren't joining? Literally the only way the option of beards would stop you is because you can't grow one but again you can just shave it if that's the case. I don't know if you've misunderstood the video? They're not compulsory. I think that's where you've perhaps gotten confused?
