Yes it is indeed possible to MOW LESS OFTEN by using a plant growth regulator! This is a product (I have been using Tnex) that helps to slow the top growth of lawn and send more energy into the root system to also help with stress and a little better color response from the grass. This should reduce mowing nearly 50% compared to not using pgr. There are some precautions you need to know which I have also outlined in the video as well as a new granular growth regulator product that I will be trying out soon.

I've been looking into growth regulators but watching this video has given me a better understanding of them maybe next year. I watched your video on above ground irrigation and I am using the sprinkler hack that you were using. I'm proud to say it works great I am in the middle of July and I am able to water 2200 ft² easily. Beautiful green grass add an inch and a quarter. Watching you the dragon and the lawn care nut Have raised the bar On my turf. Cutting a half inch off every 2 days. Commitment makes the difference. Love your channel.

On the video where you visited The Lawn Rebel and used his push mower you mentioned that it is good for large lawns. I wish I had one back in the 90's The 90's was my hey day when I mowed lawns working with my Dad. I had to mow a large lawn with just a plain push mower (Lawn Boy Brand) and it would take me two hours. Having to stop every time the bag would be full of grass clippings and empty the bag. What was worse was that large lawn was on the side of a hill. So I would be mowing at an angle back and forth. Now I work in two worlds. Contract jobs in Silicon Valley Companies (I have a Business Administration Degree) and as a cowboy at our ranch taking care of our cows. But watch Lawn Care videos By Ryann Knorr, The Lawn Rebel, Stets Lawn Care, Blades of Grass and August Hunicke tree cutting on youtube in our living room with my Dad.

That product has been on the market for many years. Anderson's is a company that caters to golf courses. However, most golf superintendents prefer to spray Trinexepac, the active ingredient for more scalable and predictable response rather than broadcast granules. So they do not have a very big market for that product. Enter someone willing to sell products without a good understanding of turf agronomy. I am a professional lawn care operator and do not have any intention of spreading a granular growth regulator. I spray my growth regulator.

Great info - on the Zoysia turf though, I spoke with one of the owners of Super-Sod about my Zoysia and this specific liquid growth regulator and he told me he did not think it would be good to use a growth regulator on Zoysia because it is already such a slow growing turf type. I'm not saying it is the company's official position, but that is what I was told by one person there anyway. I am in my first full year of growth and I'm mowing using a manual reel mower at least twice a week, sometimes three to keep it looking good and to push lateral growth, and just for the exercise. I just sprayed some Sedge and I've not mowed in probably 8 days to allow any sedge or other residual weeds to grow and outpace the Zoysia for a follow up spot treatment, but so far so good. Point being, even in the middle of the prime growing temperatures for Zoysia (low to mid 90's) and putting down fertilizers (spoon feeding every 3-4 weeks), iron, Milorganite and humic acid and fulvic acid, my lawn could easily go another week and still not look overgrown, so I'm not really sure why anybody would feel the need to put down a growth regulator on Zoysia since it is such a slow growing grass to start with. You can easily mow Zoysia once every 7-10 days and still have a very nice looking lawn.

In all seriousness, water is the best thing to use to learn you walking pace. Measure out 1000 sq ft on your driveway or road. Put 2 gallons in your sprayer. Walk at a normal pace and spray the area. Over lap paces slightly. Once the area is sprayed look at how much water is left in the tank. That is how much water you need per 1000 sq ft. Then when you spray your lawn do it early in the morning when there is dew on the ground. Walk at the same pace, follow your footsteps and as long as you mixed your product at the right ratios there should be very little chance of over application.

Hey Ryan, I am new to this whole lawn thing im watching multiple youtubers most you and conner...I'm up in PA my dirt isnt the greatest it all sifted(Not super fine) from the area prior to the house being there...it was many woods and the contractors brought in alot of rock so they can build... but i've been having issues with patches and uniformed growth. I water twice daily i used a rye mix and a Kentucky mix throughout the yard but it seems like everytime i water more rocks show up and its very patchy. it also seems that the hay im using is choking out certain areas even when i laid it lightly. At what point do i get all that hay out and overseed again. Some spots it looks amazing with the hay and its like its not even there... I think aerating is one of my only options at this point but also wanted to know what i should do with the patchiness prior to overseeding fertilizing and recovering ... besides continuing to rerake all the gravel out im worked about disrupting the newly seed roots ..if any of this makes sense i can clarify and send pics if possible

Doc just released some granular PGR by Anderson govenor G for $80 for the DIYer. Less risky for homeowners. Looks pretty awesome.? Seems to make sense since Tnex won't make it more affordable for the average homeowner by selling less ounces since most home owners don't own golf course size properties which is what current product is geared for. Get these two herbicides - Speed Zone and Tenacity, and grab a sprayer, marker dye, and a surfactant. Treat your weeds (you can mix these two together and apply at the same time). Find a dense shade seed and put it down. I'm in MN and have a heavily shaded yard too, (30+ year old maple trees) and my grass is looking good. Didn't know about growth regulators though, I think I'll have to give this a try.

The 3D brands of grass seed is a hybrid that is bred to be darker, denser and dwarfer. That is the 3D's of 3D. After a normal week of growth out of many other varieties, the 3D varieties that we have are generally shorter and require less mowing. We didn't mow at a 1/2 inch though. :) University of Illinois recommends a 3 inch cut, with exception to about the last month of the year where they recommended dropping the cut for wintering. www.summitseed.com/product/ultra-3-d-sod-3d-sod/
