We get a lot of comments saying that you guys want to try melting plastic at home without a lot of the expensive equipment we're fortunate to have in our workshop. Now, we have made a load of videos using a flat-plate panini press, but it seems like that specific machine (Breville VTS026) is quite tricky to get your hands on in some countries. So, we decided we were going to find a suitable alternative for all of you budding DIY recyclers out there!

Hmm, an interesting project to make out of recycled plastic would be a chess+checker set. All you'd need are cookie cutters. They sell chess cookie cutters and cutting recycled plastic sheets with them would make them two dimensional. Making a small peg or a tab at the bottom would allow you to insert them standing up on circular pieces of plastic (Probably also cut from cookie cutters) that have a slot in the middle. They'll look like those acrylic standees and I bet they'll look marvelous with the marbling. If you want to play checkers, just remove the chess standees from the disks and use the circular disks as checker pieces. If you want to make the board itself, it might be trickier but I'd imagine it's possible to just cut two different colors of plastic sheet into squares and just arrange them into the checker board pattern. Just a thought but I think those would look amazing with recycled plastic marbling.

Raised in California in the sixties and seventies we rationed water and ran around turn lights off. We learned about ecology and recycling. My mom refinished used furniture and I learned a different way of living. Today I’m constantly looking for ways to reuse used items. I buy clothes through second hand sellers and consignment shops. I make junk journals from junk mail, old packaging and anything others don’t want. I was thrilled to find your channel. You do great work, and encourage this generation to be kinder to our planet. Well done.

This is a very convenient video to come out mere days after the anti-stick on our (non-holey) air fryer has started to fail... That being said, as someone who gets joint pain in her hands, but also occasionally has to "help" a small child get at their lemonade, the chunky, slightly faceted design bottle opener would be much easier to use than the thinner, rounder one. Some surface area under the palm of your (six-year-old's) hand is extremely helpful, especially if the other hand is holding a bottle that's slightly damp with condensation.

I have some idea. Can we turn plastic waste into bookshelf? Because we don't need to throw the bookshelf and Plastic is quite a long-lasting material that can hold a lot of books. Computer desk is also a longtime furniture, so that we don't need a lot of wood to create it.

Please believe that the following comments are meant constructively. I love your videos; they have opened a whole new world to me! My main problem is that this still assumes the recycler has a woodshop or garage. I don't. I also do not have high ceilings. (They are very environmentally unfriendly in the Northeastern US.) And making a wooden mold? It's simply not on. Would it be possible to make a video assuming that the recycler has only a kitchen or craft room? I would also really appreciate some options for recycling PP (#5), which is much more common in my life than HDPE, although I grant that may not be possible on my premises. THANK YOU, even if all my suggestions are not possible!

I know that the metal component is required for a bottle opener, but you could do a little better. I've seen 3D printed openers that use a captive coin (or washer) and I bet with the right mold you could do something similar... Maybe even take it a step further and use a bottle cap for the metal component in the opener. After all, the only part of the bottle opener that really *needs* to be metal is the part that interfaces directly with the bottle. 😉

Great video guys. I don't know if you can help or not with technique for a beginner. My wife is a kindergarten teacher and she has been using crazy straws (squiggly plastic straws) as a tactile game for her young students to feed things over the top of. Problem is it's getting harder to find those types of straws. I've seen your content and I thought it might be possible to make them out of recycle plastic but I have never done anything like that. I do have a woodworking shop so I've got most of the tools I would need but just curious how you might go about making firm recycle plastic tubing like those crazy straws.

I use a silicone liner in my air fryer. It’s like a small silicone cake tin. Could this work for melting plastics?

If you put a hole in it, you can mount it on a drill. If you have a bench vise, it can hold the drill. Now you have a lathe. Cheers.
