Canadian Pacific trains rolling through the beautiful mountainous setting of western Alberta is what this video is all about. Lake Louise and Banff offer stunning vistas of the Canadian Rockies as the railroad follows the course of the Bow River east toward Calgary.

Magnificient waoo. You delivered a pure geographical postcard. I'm so emotional watching Canadian forests (conifers, mountains and lakes). British Columbian looks like Switzerland Lougano region, Frances' Rhône-Alpes region or Austrian Alpes. I liked those Canadian Pacific locomotives sounds climbing the rail. Great to hear your well pronouced Canadian English accent.

Usually those WB potash trains have 5 locomotives and around 200 cars ,it’s quite the sight. Great video

I remember when I used to watch the all stainless steel, vista dome Canadian, pulled by multi-units Action Red F's over these tracks.

Love the video for its scenery & sound. There is a great shot 2/3 'ds the way through of loco 5960. You've clearly captured the engineer in a head on shoot of the approaching consist. First time I've seen that. Pleasure to watch sir.

Cross border Portal N.Dakota see Canadian Pacific trains . Union Pacific trains ( at heart) ! Definitely build scale model use multiple trains of UP !

Hello...love your videos and I hate to be pedantic but although your comment that the Banff Springs Hotel has "over 300 rooms" is technically accurate its slightly off in its order of magnitude as the hotel actually sports 764 rooms & suites.

Bow Valley Parkway is now closed to vehicular traffic and open for bicycles and walkers only from Banff to Johnstone Creek. This is a summer, seasonal closure.

This year (and 2023 I believe) the BVP or 1A was closed to cars May/June and September, Banff to Johnston Canyon, one way is 25 km. in June we saw a mother bear with 2 cubs feeding on roadside dandelions and well as Bighorn sheep, deer and elk. You can rent EBikes in Banff and the road is mostly quite flat. Absolutely spectacular trip, Johnston canyon is amazing, even for a short hike/walk. And there is ice cream as well!!! If you ever get the chance, do it.

I was wondering - the heavy trains with double up front, one centre and one rear - are the rear trains remotely driven/controlled by a crew up front?

Yes the engineer in the lead locomotive controls all the locomotives in the train. It is called "distributed power" because the pulling (and braking) power is distributed throughout the train.

Do you know why the SD40 is in that position at 17:55. When that train is in work train mode that GM is better for switching with, off loading, etc.

9:39 I have always wondered, why do CPR trains have, say, 4 engines on one long train? I get that PSR is a thing but there were long trains with few engines even before CPR adapted PSR. Why is this?

I think one reason they do this is due too how few sidings they have in the rockies, even compared to CNs and UPs crossings of the mountains, the CP has few sidings, and it's actually been a choke point there trying to fix, I read about in a trains magazine a few years back

I live in Calgary and cycle on paths close to the main line. The EB/WB locomotive arrangement is sometimes the same and sometimes not. In Western Canada most, in not all, of the commodity trains are going WB full and EB empty. Huge weight discrepancy. Different number and often arrangement of power. The money trains (containers)generally have 4 locos each way, commodities have 3 WB and 2 EB. However last week I saw and EB with 10 locos at the front, so eventually they have to realign the numbers. Also CP has 4 passes between Calgary and Kamloops so the front units might be braking while the middle/rear is still pushing. It is serious mountain railroading here.
