My family have been going to Mandarin for years. Mandarin used to give Canadian citizens a free buffet meal on Canada day pre-pandemic days. Huge line ups.

Thanks for taking us along! And that's why I prefer "butterfish" (Hawaiian version - black cod 😂), it's also very oil-rich without the digestive issues. Gotta love someone who slices off a hunk of prime rib cap when you request a "fatty" piece!

Really great video Tim! It’s great to see the buffets are back! Interesting coincidence, I was researching The Mandarin buffet as I was considering going. We have 3 locations here in Ottawa and it seems like the biggest buffet here although not as big as the Toronto location! Thanks again for your positive attitude and great videos! Omg I love this place. I’m so glad you went here. It’s so yummy. I wanted to go today but I will have to go next week since I don’t have time 😍 I love the tea and drinks but if you drink them you get to full for buffet. It’s fun to go for drinks separately. Also at the Markham location, Angel is such a sweet and kind server!

I live in Toronto and Mandarin is always the go to place for our fam; we visit about 3-4 times yearly, at least before covid. hoping to return later this year !! just a note.. spring rolls are made with thinner wrappers such as flour or rice, while egg rolls are thicker and crispier as they've been dipped in egg & flour before deep frying.. anyhoo.. enjoy.. hey if you're still in Toronto, can you let us know where you'll go next? If you are still in Toronto, you should try Gyubee Japanese Grill AYCE buffet at the Scarborough location! The food is amazing and the servers are very nice people.

Mandarin has really good Canadian Chinese food. For a more traditional Asian buffet, Dragon Pearl is still the one to go to, less fried foods and even a noodle soup bar.

The Mandarin is Canadian owned by a nice family. Their menu is tested and chefs are trained so that the food is consistent from one location to another. I noticed lately they no longer have crab or lobster. But the food is a Canadianized version of Chinese food so there is no need to worry about it being overly hot like some Szechuan cuisine. This looks like a nicer location with the tables and decor. One reason why they were serving food at 9:00 pm is they take reserved seating staggered in shifts. You can choose to eat at 4:00 pm if you want which is what I did at Easter this year. But they have three other time slots which will give your table at least 90 minutes to try all the food. They no longer require masks or gloves at food stations like earlier this year. The stations are well spread out to accommodate all the guests. There is simply too much to try so I would suggest a strategy. Avoid rice, noodles, soup, breads or things battered and fried since this will fill you up too fast. My friend Jeremy who is from Beijing said this is not a place to bring a date. They will pick at food and not get your money worth. This is a place to take a woman when you are married and everyone can try the food without worry. Stick to the meats. Avoid the California style sushi since it is not very good. Try the fresh sushimi. I was there recently and there was no prime rib. They were serving roast turkey, ham and roast beef. I would recommend the following: chilled shrimp and mussels, spicy beef, curry chicken, salmon or white fish in black bean or chili sauce, dumplings, a few french fries (they are unusual), and prime rib (if they have it) and yorkshire pudding. The desserts are too many to mention. I would suggest flan, creme caramel, bread pudding, fruit, and their chocolate cake. Some locations even have a candy floss machine.

the difference in spring and egg rolls is the size and roll (breading).. the spring is a smaller more delicate, almost a filo like flakey dough where the egg roll is larger with a tougher shell.
