Sometimes a person will unexpectedly come out from a blind area and you will not have a chance to stop. When you text and drive all you end up doing is making the 0.7-1.2 second response time a human normally has and turning it into a potential 3-4 second response time. If you are not distracted and going 40mph, you already crossed 60 feet before you could start to react. Distracted that could end up being 180 feet to 240 feet before you even start to move your foot to the brake. That is why we are against distracted driving.

I had to do the swerve and avoid test (and many other similar ones from other episodes) as training for my job in what we call in the US, EVOC training (Emergency Vehicle Operators Course). I can't begin to explain to anyone how easy these maneuvers are. In my class of 28 people I think only one single person hit the cones on the first try. It absolutely blows me away how difficult these people make it look. We even used the same type of vehicle, a decommissioned police vehicle....a Ford Crown Victoria.

My phone stays in my bag when I drive. Always. I don't text or check for missed calls, until I pull over somewhere. I also don't eat or drink when I'm driving. It's only common sense. You're in a machine that can easily kill you or others. Treat it with respect.

I'd love to know how much time the candidates get to train before the challenges, and if they get any chances to learn more beyond the scope of the challenges. The lady who screams when she goes fast doesn't need all the challenges -- she needs driving time just going straight and learning to be confident going 70 without screaming. Krystal needs to learn to go a particular speed and keep it at that speed; so does Tyler. I get that this is a show and all that wouldn't make for fun-to-watch TV, but that's what these people need.

Called it! Diana was the graduate this episode, like I predicted. Her problem isn't so much her driving as it is her distractions. It looks like the distracted driving demonstration got through to her. I'm also sad to say that I called Krystal's run as well. I knew she'd claim that since the course was in a tight circuit, she'd never be able to apply it to real life. She should be shown that montage of her texting while cornering, and she should be forced to eat her words. Assuming she isn't expelled (which is a real possibility at this point), she is a lock for the final three. I'm willing to say she's only passed one challenge this season (I'm not counting the shoulder check challenge, because she got more attempts than anyone else on camera did). Also, I've never seen the main car die this early in the season. Outside of Krystal, Tyler is only reinforcing my hunch that he will join Krystal in the final three. I'm willing to say he's the only person in rehab this year that hasn't passed a single challenge (I'm giving Daniella credit for her determination to get better in the reversing challenge on episode 2). As for the third finalist, at this point, any one of the other three contestants could wind up a finalist. Krystal and Tyler are the only ones I'm positive will be here until the end. On another note, I don't see any reason why anyone can speed and claim they didn't know how fast they were going. I've been driving for 4 years, and (at least in my car), I'm able to appropriately estimate the speed within a 2 mph margin. The most common speeds I'm used to are 25 mph (residential areas and downtown), 35 mph (thru roads in the suburbs to just outside of downtown) and 65 mph (the freeway). Granted, this may also be attributed to my listening to the rpms in my car (I drive a stick). 70 kph roughly translates to 45 mph in the States, and Krystal was going over 100 kph, which roughly translates to 60 or 65 mph in the States. Any reasonable person would know that 45 mph and 60/65 mph don't sound the same in terms of engine noise. I'll leave it at that.

The worst thing on the roads these days is DEFINITELY texting while driving. Okay, speeding is bad, dui is bad, but texting is the worst to me, because it's a hell of a distraction and unfortunately - most common onr, at least here in america(and apparently in canada&other countries in the world too). A lot of these people dont even realize they're literally all over the road while doing that(yup, they are). The police talks about it, psychologists talk about it, docs talk about it, people talk about it and yet they still keep doing that. I keep seeing people texting behind the wheel all the time and it's just... Ughh. Most of my friends do that too - a week ago or so, we went to see a movie with some friends, 3 people in the car including me, the guy was texting for a good few minutes while going 65 at night(on the 55 speed limit). I just wanted to rip the fucking phone off his hand and throw it out the window. What really frightens me though is that nobody seemed too concerned about it besides me... I just cannot understand people who are not able to go on for 15 minutes without checking their phones and have to text even while driving. Seriously, you gotta be suicidal to do that, especially if you're going over 25.
