@@haziqothman5178 It's sad how American Reality TV does that. Takes a normal concept for a show, Americanizes and Overdramatizes it, then make it so the origin Canadian/UK version can't be found anywhere. Like this sort of show is genius. There's always bad drivers out there, and with many of them, we can sympathize with their stories and experiences. But no, we gotta have explosive personalities, quick edits and music stings, and the worst driver gets rewarded with a brand new car!

Well you use to have to in Canada as well. They did say it was something Breanna's generation doesn't have to do now, and shes 19. So it could have changed relatively recently. I know my youngest brother had to do a 3-point turn, which was about 9 years ago.

When I was taking drivers ed, my instructor prepared me for highway driving. I learned about blind spots, how much room I needed in order to merge, and so on. So when I went on the highway, as part of my training, I was ready. In fact, it was rather freeing, being able to drive at a higher speed. I wonder how many people just don't get that instruction, and as a result, panic.

@RacinZilla003 I once started following a random motorist that was going my way, not tailgating just following, stopping when they stopped, and everything, we had a silent agreement because at the end of the day... Australia is so isolated you can go 500km between towns and see NOTHING then suddenly within 10 minutes you're in the middle of rush hour traffic of a city, that's from rural bush farmland with indigenous creatures into the city square and another 20 minutes later the city suddenly stops and it's rural again... No, I'm not talking about a small town

41:48 It's this comment from Shayne and Travis that proves that this show isn't just about making better drivers, but also changing people in regards. I've seen people on the show that grew a lot in many ways; Tyler (S12) and Mariah (S10) learning that drunk driving is stupid and dangerous, Jordan (S11) changing his attitude to a less selfish person, Jillian (S11) getting counseling from Shamyla about not taking her anger out on her fiance, Diane (S8) gaining the confidence to drive with no worries, and even the initial jerk drivers (Bob (S1), George (S10), Joe (S13)) better themselves a bit by taking in what the experts say, and promising to never be that kind of driver again. Sure there are some people that don't change, but it is beople like Shayne and Travis that prove that Canada's Worst Driver not only helps people with their driving skills, but their own personal problems as well.
@ofs82
@ofs82 6 жыл бұрын
Probably the best example of that is Brad and Donna on series 6, and even more so Wil on season 5 even though it was his wife Melissa who was on the show - the problem was him, and he broke down when confronted with that.

Late to the party but... While it's true that this show helped certain people in certain areas, I would like to know why they didn't seek professional help for some of their personal/fundamental issues earlier/first? Did they even seek help? I don't count being "nominated" for some tv show as seeking professional help, and thís is their incentive to only then "seek for help"? A tv show? Really? The guy from E1/2 that perfectly knew how to drive but had road rage/aggressiveness issues. IIRC, didn't his family tell him that he's crazy on the road? Get therapy for his rage issues instead. And in general.. their problem solving skills, mental state and (negative) attitude are just horrible. They don't stay calm and use their brains to even think about the problem and how to fix it. They don't remember stuff they learn(ed)/get told. Makes you wonder how they are even functioning in their daily lives (if this is all acted/scripted, well good for them, but if not...yeah...) Not just that, how did they even get their license in the first place. Still a big question mark to me (some of them are lucky they haven't killed anyone/themselves on the road yet to be honest). It's fun/educational for me to watch this, but it's also infuriating.

+The New RV Guy I tend to like highway driving as well. However, there are segments that I don't like. I frequently do the 2 hour drive from Reno to Sacramento, and through the town of Truckee (which is at almost 6000' above sea level), portions of I-80 (especially westbound, headed towards Donner Summit) have really bad potholes (a combination of heavy truck traffic and harsh winter conditions in the Sierra Nevadas). Now, road maintenance of I-80 through the Sierra Nevada isn't as high priority as in the Sacramento area, but it is still annoying having to dodge the potholes. If the torn up areas you mentioned on I-20 are in the rural areas, then I think it's understandable. I'd say it's a different story if this were in some of the urban areas along I-20 (from Google Maps, Aiken, Lexington/Columbia, Camden and Florence look to be big urban areas along that highway).

I'll take slow winding narrorw roads with chances of reversing any day over highways. It's so freakin boring, and I get to think about my car driving phobia a bit too much. (Which is being worked on like crazy. I'm on my fifth day as a taxi driver. Ofc, it's obvious I've gotten really far since therapy, but those loooong stretches of road where I get bored can still be a challenge.)

On my first driving test, I don't remember reversing much. But I do remember when I got back to base, so to speak, I decided to reverse into the parking spot. They were also diagonal, and I had to make a 135 degrees (I estimate?) turn from where I was coming from. I did what I saw my brother doing time and again, and turned diagonally before reversing (so it now was just 90 degree turn left) I might add, there was no cars there, so just stripes I had to go between luckily. By pure chance, I ended up prefectly centered between them, and made it look pro. Couldn't believe my luck...

CALLED IT! I can't believe I actually correctly predicted who splintered the lane markers and "pinned" the bumper in place. I still think that Travis is guaranteed to be in the finals, but I'm now starting to consider Melanie an actual contender for the worst title. She gave zero fucks when doing the water tank challenge (as a side note, I know that were I to do it, I'd lose almost all of the water since I'm a jerky driver, but I think the true key is staying calm), and her attitude towards Tim on the highway drive really took me by surprise (in a bad way, of course). Ashley didn't do as well on this episode as the last one, but I still have hope for her. On the water tank challenge, she managed the turnaround on her own...eventually, had she been on any other season, her reversing challenge would've been one of the better ones, and she had the right idea for her final attempt at the reverse flick, but she was too slow. At this point, I am thinking that Adam will most definitely be the next to graduate, with Shayne following in the semifinals. This leaves Ashley, Melanie and Travis as the final three.

It's mostly anxiety. If the contestants wouldn't freak out about what they were doing they'd have the brain power to do almost everything that scares them. They can't even claim to be task saturated like some of the distracted drivers in the show. I sympathize but realistically, as every single one of the driving instructors points out, they have to practice in order to overcome their fears. Especially with a tool box and checklist at their disposal of what to do, they will he fine. It's when they forget to signal, decide, and drive that things go to crap. I think the saying in aviation is no matter what's happening aviate,navigate, THEN deliberate. In other words focus on driving the vehicle using the skills you practice, don't go into trouble shooting panic attack land when you still need to pilot the vehicle. (My dad's favorite saying when he taught us how to drive).

If anyone I knew or myself pulled that during the exam or with a driving instructor, we would've failed instantly. Like one of my friends failed 3 or 4 times cause he was just too timid and scared. so.... I really don't know who passed these people.

I’m from the town right next to Edmonton, where most of CWD are from, and I had to take a 20 hour/10 day course with an instructor, and have at least 40hrs behind the wheel before going for the road test, but none of it really matters because they’ll pass pretty much anyone here.

I really don’t know how they got their license. Probably shitty examinators? Here in quebec you have to do 8 hours of theory classes before even getting your learner’s permit, then you have to do 14 more theory hours, and 15 hours on the road with an instructor. I’m almost done! Also, you need to have had your permit for 10 months before the final theory exam, and 12 months before the practical exam

He did buy another car, although like Mike Butt from series 5 I think he went back to the start and started learning again. I've been expecting Andrew to do a drive with Jillian all through the series to see if she's really improved as much as she says, although in fairness she wasn't that bad a driver technically, it was her psychological barriers that were the problem for her. I mean, she wasn't Joe or anything, who was clearly more than capable technically, but she was fine compared to most contestants on the show. Ashley has some of the same psychological barriers but isn't as good a driver overall. With Melanie, we're seeing the signs of Stephanie standing up to her but it really depends how she will see it. Jillian was relying entirely on Mitch, so when he was removed or they got him to stand up to her, it helped in the long run. I worry with Melanie that she'll respond more like Scott did when Danny flipped at him - "I need to find a new sucker friend". She's so used to other people bailing her out that she doesn't even comprehend the need for her to pull her weight. I think the show started out on the tone of Melanie needing the help because she struggles to cope, but it's gradually showing her in the light of not really wanting to cope and expecting others to solve her problems for her, or to somehow get good at driving by magic, whereas the others, Shayne especially, look like they really want to improve. Shayne reminds me of Michael in Canada's Worst Driver Ever - he's close but not quite there, repeatedly.

Recapping is a relic of old television. When new tv show episodes would air once a week and have to remind you what happened last time. Now we have the ability to binge shows so recapping what you saw a minute ago is annoying.

I used to be very fearful of highway driving but it's actually very easy. The key is to relax, match your speed with traffic, right turns from a surface street I find is easier than merging. I am 24 and recently got my licence. Driving my mother's car 2009 Buick Lucerne with very poor rear vision is kinda scary but it handles well, very smooth and easy to drive. I want to buy an AWD sport sedan like a Subaru WRX STI. Lots of power in a small size and good vision all around.
