EU teams have come along way, but have a longer way to go to become contenders. The Czechs played with courage and determination, so much respect, but were simply outplayed. Canada's team is too old: will need to play quicker and smarter to defeat the US. Cross checks should receive 5 min major penalties, a game if deemed dangerous, and suspension if injury results. Refs need to be much better trained.

Want my team to win (Canada) but the American ladies have much better shooters. Hope I'm wrong, but in the gold medal game I have to give the edge to the Americans. Both can skate with each other, Canadian goalie is very impressive, but can Canada overcome the shooting deficit? Back in 1978 we were horsing around on the ice, practicing that sort of thing. A group of women asked if they could play against us, we said okay, but there were some rules. We ALL agreed no checking. I know this may sound out of place to today's youth with the trans issue, but we would NOT hurt women, ladies understood that so, it wasn't a problem. We played against the women, that didn't work, in short order we went up 8-0, so we mixed the teams. Was a lot of fun, they came out for pizza and beer with us after the game (Chicago "deep dish" pizza was a new thing in Toronto in 1978). Last 10 minutes or so of our ice time the women asked us for pointers on how to shoot harder. 4 of us went on to play professionally so our slapshots were around 100 mph, women couldn't get anywhere near that speed. We tried to help them, they thanked us. Woman goalie asked me to take one hard slapshot from the blue line. I skated to centre ice, turned came back and let it rip from the blue line, woman goalie ducked flat out on the ice. I went up and asked if she was alright? She said yes, but wasn't going to stand in front of such a hard shot. Thus, I can't expect the Canadian Women's Team to find a 100 mph shooter, won't happen, but they must close the deficit against the Americans or winning will be iffy at best. Canada has never been able to replace Haley Wickenheiser, her shot was a threat that must have put fear into every goalie she faced, how many times did Haley in overtime come through? Whether she scored or her hard shot put the puck up for a great rebound in front of the net and a teammate put it in, her contribution was phenomenal, she never gave up, always pushed forward! The 2014 Canada - U.S. Women's gold medal game was a classic for the ages! Canadian ladies need to find a couple more good shooters somewhere. Wish you well ladies! Bring home the Gold!!!!!!!!!!!
