This Log Cabin Project is a dream that we have had for several years that we finally decided to make a reality. We have spent the past 2.5 years building this cabin from scratch and our goal has been to use only hand tools, no power tools. All of the logs were harvested from our property. This cabin will function fully off-grid and will be only accessible by foot. The cabin is finally in a state that we can live in, so we moved in and live here full time! There is still tons of work to be done on the cabin and on our property, so be sure to subscribe to follow our journey!

Well guys. I’m from the U.K., I’m 60 years old and I’ve just sat and watched this 2.5hr building marathon and couldn’t stop watching. You both should be extremely proud of what you’ve achieved here. Even your parents and families should be proud too. Nobody since a long era ago have built houses with hand tools. I admire you both for your stamina and the duration this build must have taken. Give yourselves a big pat on the back. I look forward to seeing the day you hear the laughter of children too, enjoying the fruits of your hard labour. Well done again guys

I could not agree more. I was a roofer most my life and I was a carpenter for a while, but just a stick framer. I didn't even do the Punch-Out work. As a Master Carpenter you're doing precise stuff that requires craftsmanship and taking carpentry to an artistic level. Not just throwing a bunch of 2x4's together like me when I was framing. You know what you're talkin about my grandfather was a master carpenter too. So I know exactly what those two words entail. You're an master of your craft and an artisan and artist. Not just a construction worker.

You are both to be congratulated on your commitment and initiative in building your cabin. I am 77 and have worked with wood in one way or anther for many years. I have spent 2.5 hours of pure enjoyment watching the way you work together, sharing all the various tasks. I commend your tenacity. Obviously you have only shown a section of each task necessary, e.g. cutting down the trees and stripping off the bark, this in itself a major undertaking to provide all the timber necessary. Equally, I commend you on the quality of your videos, which in my opinion is of a professional standard. May you both enjoy many years of life together in this beautiful home that you have created.

My wife and I watch this together I've watched it twice now. I worked construction most of my life mostly as a roofer. But I have framed Carried hod, laid brick poured foundations, done a little bit of everything. I am really really impressed with the job you guys did as a team together. You did it the old school way. I am 55 and I remember having to hand nail no pneumatic nailers. But you guys did it the way the Pioneers would have done it. I know strong grown men that would have been whining and complaining the whole time. You have a beautiful home now. And those wonderful memories to always share together. A couple that can survive doing that together, you all will be able to survive whatever this world throws at you. Well-done, I tip my hat to you both.100%

I am 54 years old and been in the residential home building and repair for a long time. I respect this build cuz of choice not to use power tools. I don't know what experience you have but you have the smarts and more importantly the will it takes. The roof rafters will wick water through the wood. I hope you cover the cut ends with a good high quality finish since the roof decking and metal do not extend past the cut ends. I'm not trying to pick apart your build just want it to last a long time cuz you put alot into it. The dwelling will be a part of you I hope for life. I applaud the choice of tools especially in a day and age where people like to take short cuts and use power tools .I am sure you will know your home like he back of your hand. Good job. Nick & Maela, I have to say I have watched a lot of off-grid cabin builds to get ideas for my build and I have to say this is by far one of the best videos I have seen to date! I found it interesting using an interlocking post and beam style build and with basic hand tools! There are also a lot of couples out there doing these types of builds and you two really grabbed my attention! I don't care where in the world you are, but if we had more young couples like you two supporting each other to build something you both can be proud of and cherish for decades to come, this world would be a better place! I say that sincerely! The teamwork is beyond words and super proud of you two on that fact alone! I'm older and in my mid-50s in Central Ohio USA, and recovering from reconstructive knee surgery so I plan on using modern tools and equipment to assist me, but I have found your videos very insightful with a lot of techniques I plan on incorporating. Thank you for sharing! I'm going to get a small portable sawmill to mill 8 x 8 square posts and 6 x 6, and 4 x 4 posts for the rest and do my joints the same way you two did! Great craftsmanship in my view! You two really did a super fantastic job not just with your cabin build but with your video and editing! Major kudos for being inspiring on many fronts and I wish you two much love, happiness, and good health for decades to come! I look forward to watching more of your awesome videos!

It's great to see this young couple working together without the need for arguing or raised voices. I really love that they have chosen to build their home in the woods with hand tools. it the old fashioned way without the use of modern power tools. It will certainly take longer to complete, but the satisfaction they get will last a lifetime. In today's world we have the habit of always searching for the easier/faster/newer tools and technologies, but these two have chosen to honor the ethics of hard work and self-reliance, instead. This experience will strengthen their character and give them the confidence to face whatever lies ahead.

I admire you using hand tools and taking on such an ambitious project. Not many could follow through. I've built a log home for someone as a recording studio here in Connecticut USA. The company was called "Real Log Homes" who produced the logs. I'm surprised you didn't use certain power tools even though you had power in your later videos. I've been binge watching yesterday and today. No one would of faulted you for using screw gun, and other power tools. You did use a sewing machine. Enjoy your home. Thomas Dutkiewicz, USA

Very interesting house construction. You are a great team! The only thing that surprised me was that there are gaps between the logs. We (in Russia) usually make grooves along the log. And they lay insulation between them.

What an adorable home. You work together so cohesively all while barely communicating. Sealing the roof on the porch before adding the metal was a great touch, adding protection to the wood. The stone work for the wood stove turned out beautifully. The entire build was very inspiring. My husband owns a paving company (the account I'm using) and he plans on purchasing land in Maine and building a log home. Though he has heavy equipment to do so, it's still going to be a lot of work as the equipment doesn't help much when it comes to the actual building, just digging (he wants to use a container or two and build an underground bunker and storage). The only thing that would've made this video even better would've been a showing of the inside completed. I'm always so amazed by tiny living, minimalism and how people make it work. Everything turned out beautifully. You both did an amazing job!

My apologies if this was already mentioned, I scanned through some comments and didnt notice it. First off, amazing job, you both should be so proud! I just have a couple tips if you ever make a future cabin to save you a little headache. First, fantastic choice using roxul...not only great insulation, but the fire and sound protection is awesome....plus the fact that stuffing it hard doesnt lose R value like pink does. A small tip for you though.....when you are setting your logs, place a layer of roxul between them. It will eliminate any gaps, and the insulation bonus as opposed to stuffing the joint afterwards will honestly shock you. The only other tip / thing to say...and I could be completely wrong as video didnt show it all that well....always be sure to stagger your joints, especially with osb / plywood. Having it lined up is a massive weak spot that will cause cracking and other issues. This goes for studs, drywall, plywood etc....you never want to line up 1 large joint. Fantastic Job regardless, enjoy your cabin!!

To @debprather4241. You can't teach what these guys have. They are borne engineers. They are borne with this ability to instantly see the problem in its entirety and somehow produce the optimum result. Its a gift like art and music. So gratifying to see them working in such harmony where, to a great extent, speech is superfluous. I am an engineer, all my forebears have been, and so are my kids and grandkids, it's in their genes. Love the fact they use hand tools and make it look so easy. There is a great deal of native skill being demonstrated here. Again their single minded "push on with it" approach comes through. If you know what to look for, there is an amazing amount to see in this video. I am an 82 yo Brit still very fitt and functional. Thanks guys an inspiration. I shall " Keep buggering on" as Winney (Churchill) was wont to say. So I can remain active for many more years. Oh if you get a bit stuck on an item. LET FORM FOLLOW FUNCTION. it usually points in the right direction
