✅ I propose to recap the best moments of this fight and see my review of this confrontation. А round-by-round analysis.
Canelo Alvarez defeated Erislandy Lara by a split decision at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Alvarez was the aggressor throughout, chasing his nimble opponent around the ring and connecting enough - mostly to the body - to win over two of the judges, who scored it 115-113 and 117-111 in his favor. The Mexican obviously was given credit for effective aggression.
Lara did a good job of sticking and moving, scoring fairly consistently with his jab and quick combinations and then using his feet to get out of harm’s way. One judge scored it for the Cuban 115-113.

Good fight, Lara landed some good punches when he threw them, but he did not throw enough, he spent too much time trying trying to maintaint a distance and not get hit. Canelo did what he always does, relentless pressure thoughout, he deserved to win.

Being the aggressor doesn't win fights tho brah. Cotto Hatton maidana pressured floyd but unless your landing shots and causing your opponent's big problems. Like a matador. Canelo definitely got a good shake of the dice here in scoring terms. But I agree everybody wants to see a fight and no a running show. Floyd even at his older age was a master of distance not literally running away like lara did. There's a big difference

Lara fought a smart fight. Allowing an opponent with superior power to get inside would have been a big mistake. Plus, he was tough enough to withstand the body blows. But he needed to throw and land a lot more punches, with more than just a 1-2 combinations. He needed throw like 4 or 5 punch combinations where he at least momentarily dominated Alvarez. But he didn't dare to try that. Alvarez's counter-punching ability made that too dangerous.

Not only did Lara lack dominant exchanges, he often conceded exchanges without offering a response. Canelo would hammer his body including in combination and Lara would go in retreat mode rather than firing back, which besides allowing Canelo to win those exchanges uncontested was also letting the judges know he was feeling his power. Canelo on the other hand pressed throughout while landing the bigger shots, and looking to respond when Lara connected instead of conceding like Lara.

I call it a draw! Lara has an interesting defensive skill he hits you while moving away! that is a very dangerous style and his straight jabs were so fast and loaded that canelo ate them all night long! the only mistake that Lara did was that he used the entired ring to evade Canelo's onslaught so that didn't look good in the eyes of the judges. Overall the fight was very close so a draw would have been more fair in this fight.

After watching the highlight here, I honestly in my opinion, thought Lara won. A perfect game of defense and attack he exhibited. Reminds me of Floyd Mayweather Jr. What a shame he didn't win nor at worst had a DRAW. Cheers to both fighters!!!

Con todo respeto para que Lara hubiera echó eso tenía que haberse parado a cambiar golpes y de esa forma el canelo es muy peligroso lo huniera knokeado esa pelea no hubiera llegado ni al octavo round Lara no tiene el poder de puños como la del canelo además de que contra el perro ángulo Lara por momentos se le puso al tu x tu y por poco cay knokeado por el perro ángulo quien lo tubo al borde del knokaut fue por eso que contra el canelo nunca quiso hacer lo mismo sabía claramente que si hubiera echó eso hubiera sido un suicidio para el el canelo a tipos frágiles cómo el se los tumbaba fácil por eso fue que prefirió correr y correr los 12 rounds dando un maraton es la peor pelea que yo e bisto en años y eso que Lara antes de la pelea dijo que el no le tenia miedo al canelo y que el le pelearia al tu x tu por eso muchos creímos que seria un peleón

Lástima que esto fue boxeo no baile. Lara era una "bailarina" a la que le conectaban el cuerpo con golpes de poder y concedía demasiados intercambios. Irónicamente, entre los dos fue Lara quien peleó como si esperara tener suerte con los jueces simplemente haciendo el mínimo para hacerlo competitivo (a pesar de concedír demasiados intercambios), mientras que Canelo dio el rendimiento mas determinado como si su objetivo fuera ganar. Presiono toda la pelea con tiros poderosos y buscaba responder cuando Lara conectaba en lugar de conceder como Lara cuando Canelo le conectó. (mi primer idioma no es espanol)

Remember the judges always take a very precise look at a boxer when he uses hugging as a defense….that’s why Lara lost the fight……remember a fight is a fight no one wants to watch a hugging contest and and no one wins a fight hugging his opponent.

Canelo is an exceptional fighter, but everything about this fight says that Erislady won this fight from clear counterpunching, undeniable jab, and never became overly relaxed at any moment which allows Canelo to inflict major damage as hes known for. He was very strategic and alert. It was a wonderful performance for Erislady.

Clear counterpunching? When Canelo would connect, Lara would typically concede rather than answer back which allowed Canelo to win exchanges uncontested. Canelo was the one pressing while tracking Lara with body shots and would look to respond when Lara would connect rather than conceding like Lara. And no, Lara was definitely not overly relaxed lol, he was way to tentative and became increasingly reluctant as the fight went along. Ironically, it was 23yo Canelo who made the better adjustments and picked up his defense whereas Lara became increasingly quick to concede while limiting himself more and more to arm punches.

Problem is when you get hammered to the body and look to retreat rather than answering back. That's allowing Canelo to win exchange after exchange uncontested and also letting the judges know he's feeling Canelo's punches.

What made the difference for Canelo is the amount of times lara went down. Lara was very effective if had put more punches together instead of running and only landing a few punches in those rounds. He could have won that fight.

De cuando en cuando repaso peleas que me hacen morder las uñas y pararme del asiento: Holyfield, Foreman, Mercer, Morrison, Tyson, etc. En el caso de esta pelea, Lara fue muy inteligente, pues supo, además, utilizar su agilidad y juventud ante un Canelo un tanto robótico (es la ventaja que tambien supo aprovechar Bivol). Digo inteligente, porque, ¿qué hubiera ocurrido si se hubiese enfrentado cuerpo a cuerpo con Canelo? Lara no habría durado mucho en el ring. Y por favor no digan que andaba corriendo, pues es una muy mala lectura. Es el boxeo de hoy.

Wow, I must have been watching another fight, because I clearly saw Lara out box Canelo. Judging in all contact sports is in dire need of an overhaul and oversight. I've watched so many contests being decided by poor judging that its hard not to want these judges to be more closely scrutinized for performance and consistency.

Nah, you saw the correct fight. You wanted to believe Laura won but he didn’t. He was a hell of an opponent for Canelo and he certainly had his moments but Canelo was the aggressor with the harder and more effective punches throughout the fight. I certainly would not say Laura did bad. He looked good for sure

This is an edited video in which the author inserts his own personal narrative. It was a competitive fight but Canelo did an excellent job hammering Lara's body with power shots which forced Lara to concede exchanges throughout and made him increasingly tentative as the fight went on. The irony is that between the two of them, Lara was the one who fought like he hoped to get lucky on the scorecards just by doing the minimum to make it competitive (while conceding too many exchanges) whereas Canelo is the one who gave the more determined effort like he went in there to win while pressing the action throughout and would look to respond when Lara landed instead of conceding like Lara when Canelo connected on him.

People have to know the politics of boxing unfortunately. While Lara def won the fight on points, Canelo is boxing cash cow and can’t have him lose to a lessor marketable opponent. I boxed for over 20 years in Philly and overseas pro unlicensed and dealing with the politics to get paid was always a issue and now it’s even worst. I do hate peoples just being fans to be fans tho I have canelo as one of the best on my all time top 10 list but I know a lose when I see it. He lost against Lara period

Did you even look at the stats?? Erislandy landed the highest percentages of accurate shots on Canelo's head all night. Canelo's body shots had no effect. He missed most of them.
