Saul Canelo Alvarez has had tough nights in boxing, most notably losses to Floyd Mayweathe Jr. And Dmitry Bivol, but back in the distant 2009 the Mexican suffered like he didn't in his only two lost fights as a pro against Jose Miguel Cotto.
Canelo was a rising star, under the shelter of Oscar De la Hoya and his promoter Golden Boy Promotions his career seemed promising, the lights of the stage were pointing more and more at him.
Until before the fight with Jose Miguel Cotto, Alvarez had no victories to boast about, although he had 31 wins and one draw, his record did not scare anyone.

El reffery aprovechò ese descuido de Cotto, no tanto para proteger al atleta sino para garantizar el gane de Canelo porque Cotto ya habìa demostrado que lo podìa vencer. Para mi que lo hubiese dejado caer y contarle como siempre para que no quedaran dudas de un knockout limpio, si èste ya no estaba en condiciones... Cómo digo, la desiciòn del reffery pudo tener doble intenciòn. Dejò un mensaje ambiguo...

Entiendo lo que dices pero eso no toma en cuenta el contexto de la situación. Canelo lo dominó durante un 90% de la pelea y Cotto ya había dejado su impacto en el boxeo. Lo pudo haber dejado terminar pero era un riesgo innecesario a esas alturas. Esa pelea se recuerda como una guerra pero pienso que con otros 3 putazos, el KO hubiera sido el único recuerdo
