When you learn new language, you really become a part of their community. You start watching videos, read books, news in new language. Probably, now you can't talk with anyone, but in future, when you improve your language skills, you start do that too. I'm from Armenia and in my country not enough content in my native language. Even russian content become too boring for me. Due to that, i started learning english and it open for me new world with a lot of interesting content. Get luck :)

Another advantage of rephrasing is, that you show to your communication partner that you have been listening and are actively trying to understand what they are saying.

Hah! I did that pretending I understood something today. But hear me out. I was driving our Ukrainian teenager from school to his new home today. He was saying something, but still speaks quite quietly, and I just didn't catch what he was saying. I pretended I didn't hear properly so he repeated himself - and I still didn't understand what he was saying. But ... obviously English isn't his first language (although he's pretty good at it now), but he's only really started talking to us in the past 6 months or so, and I valued his spontaneous communication more than possibly making him feel embarrassed by correcting him / asking him to repeat himself again. And I was driving, so needed to concentrate on that. So yes, I pretended I understood what he was saying on this occasion in order to keep the conversation lines open.

When I had my main exam in English in institute they asked me to tell any short story - in English of course. I knew few words and English grammar a very little but I decided to tell continually about something and not to stop myself in any case. My teacher was very surprised and I got a "5" (it means - excellent). 😊 Thank you for the lesson. Hello from Russia.

Hi Christian. I love your videos but I have to admit I didn't watch all of them. I regularly listen to your podcasts during driving. But there's one favourite that I don't find. You speak about your favourite glass that you wanted to use only on special occasions and you didn't allow your father using it. You taught me to see the life better and the story touched my heart. Your pragmatic approach speaks to me. Reasking to make sure you have understood everything correctly reminds me of the Ideological Turing Test which has nothing to do with ideologies but concerns with retelling the position of your interlocutor and then asking whether you catch one's idea.

Dear friend, your video came like a glove as I am always asking for "rephrasing" for a while in my job...I share with colleagues of different nationalities and the fear of repeating the question for the third time is brutally real..... I have even felt disappointment and questioned even my level of English even though I know that my knowledge is advanced when I talk to my colleagues "face to face"...maybe it is because in my job we use walkie-talkie all day long...anyway...I am very pleased that you have touched the topic in your channel. Best english teacher out here. I follow many eng teachers on social medias (mainly KZfaq & Instagram), but noone of them are as good as you are. Your perfect pronunciation, listenable and slow/fast enough to be understood in each sentence, spread out the intention of your to let the viewer feel comfortable and enjoy the time he's spending watching the video. It's also clear how your main achievement is to teach something to people, without care about money (and trust me when I say that a lot of online teachers have completely changed from genuine to marketing bla bla bla sellers). Keep it up 😁
