I took up learning 'like a baby' for a while, basically, I've been doing it for around 3 months and it has given 180 degrees change to my English, even I could say I've learnt more about English in these 3 months than what I learned in a year of English course taken in Australia. The approach I'm using is taking a piece of audio (easy to understand and no too long) some kind of stories and so on and then listen to it as much as I can for 7 days, I listen to it minimum an hour a day but it has there been days when I've done it for more than hours... yes the same audio for 7 days and spend as much time as you can doing this kinda boring activity... but it is the best thing I could do to improve my English both listening and speaking.

People need to start studying THE language and not ABOUT the language! There's no use of knowing what's a verb, a noun or everything like that. I learned how to speak English without have studied ANY grammar rule. The rules came AFTER the language, not the opposite.

And the children learning more easier than adults,because we are making jokes while a person make a mistakes with other language (unfortunately) and babies don't do that,the communication between children simply happens.

Asking "why" is in my opinion the approach to learning everything. A couple of years ago I changed my employer. Even it was the same type of work, they had different computer programs with which a had to get familiar. So, I annoyed my coworkers during the computertraining by asking them "why" do I have to type this, or this and not something else? Most of them couldn't answer my questions, because they just did what they were told to do 😂 At the one or other way I became answers to my questions and became more quickly used to the programm, than they did before. A mechanic can put parts together in a particular way, but if he knows, why he has to put part A on part B to get part C pulled back, it will simplify his work.

I think Comprehensible Input is most correct definition for the whole idea.

I agree with the concept that early language learning (weather a child or adult learning a new language) is most effective is small chunks (short simple sentence/clause/phrase) without actually knowing about the parts of speech and how they relate to each other grammatically. That will come later. I can still recall my first reading book (as a child in school) from way back in an English-speaking country. First the whole book was mainly coloured (British not US spelling ! LOL) line drawings. Page 1 : This is Mister Joe. Page 2: Mister Joe builds a house. Page 3: Mister Joe has a dog called Dan. And so on, using the educational principle of scaffolding (Vygotsky). Of course, with coloured pictures to match. In those days, there were no preschool: LKG was age 5+. Took the whole year to learn all 64 pages, recognizing all the words independently, spelling most of them correctly from dictation, etc. By the time you got to the last few pages, only about one half of the page was picture; there were more sentences with the phrases and words used differently and repeatedly. No grammar at all in the whole first year. Year 2 built on Year 1 with a little bit of plural of nouns that you were expected to pick up transparently, that is, without making a conscious effort to do so. Most adults attempting to learn a new language want to learn too much too quickly. and they are afraid of making mistakes. Plus, if you throw in a traditional teacher into the mix, THAT spells (no pun intended) disaster. BTW, my first degree in Science Education (K-12) does have a minor component in language arts.

Babies associate what they hear with what happens. According to a father his baby first word was : aperitif ! Why ? Because this baby has understood that the parents give him some salty biscuit and every body was happy around him. Aperitif means for him : great time and biscuit. Babies don’t understand word but they know if you are happy, sad, or angry. People are not sad or angry when they propose an aperitif.

A very interesting video. Lately, I've been searching a method for learning a language called comprehensive input. What I could understand was this method is associated with reading and listening. The more a person reads and listens, the easier a language will be acquired. But, unfortunately I haven't found yet some tips for using it on my own in the learning process. Thank you!!. Great video Christian. It's funny I've been learning English in the last 15 years using this method. I realized it worked best for me without knowing it ever existed. I always thought I invented it myself 😅 One of the first sentences or as I call them "big words" that I taught my wife was "what am I supposed to do?" and she learned it without knowing the grammar behind it.

I was raised by Spaniards, so I learned Spanish like a baby, without learning anything, just with the sounds. I was in contact with them until I was twenty years old. I spoke Spanish as well as French. But unfortunately, I stopped meeting my parents by proxy and I don't have many opportunities to speak Spanish, even though I live nearby. I understand it, but I don't have the basics because I never learned it.Therefore, I don't know either the rules of the verbs or the sequence of tenses. I miss Spanish grammar. I miss the Spanish backbone

The biggest advantage children have over adults is time. It will be years from the day they start speaking to the day they can produce a statement with clear choice of words. In their first years only their parents will understand them, unless this child is taught and corrected many times.Children learn by imitation. They say the same things over and over, just like they throw a toy on the floor ten times and still have fun when you catch it. An adult learns English with a purpose and sometimes with a " deadline ".You can avoid the grammatical terms, but not guiding the learner to the correct form. Of course there is room for more or less perfection depending on their purpose for learning that language. For fun, for tourism, for shopping or for studying at a University or a job opportunity.

I appreciate that i understand your english,i believe you speak slowly for letting everybody comprehension of your discussion, but i want to say for an italian or spanish and so on, is also difficult to learn english because it has differences for example between speak and talk,and then many types of future or past ,in my language that is italian,there aren't so many differences😮
